I've studied and lived in Japan before - totally agree with what you're saying - Japanese people are nice and friendly, but it's rare they treat you as one of them. In a way, you always feel like an outsider - no matter how well you've assimilated.
There is no doubt that Japan is better than Taiwan or even many other countries. There is no need to say these things just to make money from TH-cam. But even if someone leaves Taiwan, Taiwanese people will not be prejudiced and will still sincerely wish them the best.

I found myself love Taiwan more after living in Japan for one year. Of course, it’s easy to visit Japan as long as you want when I live in Taiwan. So I came back from Japan.
Indeed, Japanese society tends to maintain a sense of distance, even among Japanese people themselves. In contrast, Taiwan generally doesn't have this feeling. Thank you for liking Taiwan. Welcome home!
I live in Melbourne, and most of my coworkers are Japanese. Just like what you said, they have their own circle that you are really difficult to get in even you have worked with them for a while, and get along with them well.
Let me borrow what my Canadian friend said about Taiwan and Japan to sum up for you: As friends, Japanese wouldn't want to bother you and expect you to behave the same, and Taiwanese wouldn't mind bothering you and expect you to bother back. She lived in both places.
Fukushima is a really big prefecture/province in Japan, so your friend James most likely lives no where near the actual Daiichi plant on the east coast. I wanted to comment on this on the podcast, because you brought it up a little, but didn't get a chance. Just wanted to highlight that while the actual radiation levels within the current exclusion zones are higher than background, but still no where near enough to start causing issues or cancers. You still have far higher doses by flying in a plane at high altitude than you do there. Especially in the areas where they have removed the topsoil. There are always a lot of misconceptions around Fukushima, as well as nuclear power plants and radiation in general. Most don't know we are always exposed to background radiation for example. This is just me speaking with my Physicist hat on. Either way, cool video! Interesting how a lot of people say Taiwan and Japan's cultures are similar, but at the same time so very different in how they interact with foreigners, including English literacy. I actually find the K-cars kinda cool as well as cute, if it means I get a cheap way to be mobile then I wouldn't mind having them in the UK.
We visited the area that was affected. It's a little far but then again I don't even know what that means when we start talking about nuclear stuff haha
I lived in Japan for a long time, and left this year. Because I have permanent residency there I may decide to return, but I agree with prozzie's points. I've spent some time in Taiwan, and despite it not having all the bells and whistles of Japan, I found it to have much more of a 'home-y' feel. That's also a good point about being an introvert. While in some ways Japan is an introverts paradise, it's generally the really extroverted people who have the greatest chance of making connections (you really do have to put yourself out there).

As a Taiwanese viewer, I think moving to Japan wouldn't be a bad idea. At the very least, it offers the opportunity to experience life in another country. If Prozzie were to live there for a few years, while the number of Taiwanese viewers might decrease, there could be a chance to gain more Japanese viewers. More importantly, it would allow for an in-depth experience of Japanese culture and lifestyle, and then you could compare the differences between East Asia and Canada. It sounds interesting. Plus, Japan is very close to Taiwan, making it a worthwhile option to consider.
I think I would love having a car and driving in Japan, but I love Taiwan because I can feel more comfortable around the people. Taiwanese people are very relaxed and open minded and don't mind that I'm from another country
