    I have a 2011 hilux and the spare heated seat fuse under the dash on the passenger side appears to stay on when the vehicle is off aswell (causing the dctodc charger to stay on).Therefore does it have to be a spare/empty fuse or can I use a fuse that is already being used for something else and just put a smaller second fuse in the fuse tap?

      G'day mate,if your not sure just use the same value fuse as the original you have plugged into - wipers would be no good as they can be switched on with the accessories/ignition - fuel pump relay is probably best - really anything that only has power when engine is running & switches off when engine is off

    • @KickAssProducts

      You use a fuse tap. Match the size of the fuse tap to the socket you are plugging into on your vehicle. You should find this information on the fuse box cover.

    Thanks for these videos. Instead of running an ignition wire to front fusebox, can I tap the wire with a fuse to positive+ wire of 12v outlet to connect ignition wire (12 v outlet already in the back of the car boot, only works when the key is on) ? This is for a Jeep Grand Cherokee which have main battery under the drivers seat. So, I can run wires easily to 2nd battery. Then use ignition wire from 12V outlet (+wire) from the boot. Thanks

    Will the dcdc charger still work if you don’t tap into the fuse ??

    • @KickAssProducts
      @KickAssProducts  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The charger will auto sense the input voltage so it will charge without the fuse tap. However if your alternator does not put out a high enough voltage or there are fluctuations in the electrical system this can cause inconsistencies while charging and is why we recommend connecting the ignition wire.

    Do you need the ignition cable in fixed voltage alternators such as a 1986 landcruiser? I don't think you need to but I don't understand the cut off mechanism within the DCDC

    • @KickAssProducts
      @KickAssProducts  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      G'day Erik. No you don't have to install the ignition wire, the charger does will auto detect when your vehicle is running as long as your alternator puts out a high enough voltage, an 86 cruiser should easily.
      Cut in is 13.2 volts without the ignition wire connected.

      @@KickAssProducts - Awesome stuff. All wired up and nowhere to go, and no explosions either. I'm yet to properly test it with a drive around, but just with engine running in garage it seems there's a bit of time lag on either switching the DCDC charger on and/or off. When I switched off, it kept showing that it was charging for at least 10 minutes, but with only very little trickle - is that normal? (My battery was sitting at 94% charged and no usage/draw. I'm planning on putting the fridge on there and do a drive around over the weekend, but thought I'd check in the meantime.)
      O, and I did check that the fuse I used had no charge while engine switched off - that was my obvious first check.

I will be using a 100ah lithium battery, the manual states the cut in voltage at 26.4v for the dcdc, to me it looks like the lithium won't even reach that voltage. Am I wrong?

      We can't give you specific vehicle advise sorry. But if you follow the steps in the video you should be able to find a suitable place to tap the fuse.
      Remember that you need to find an empty fuse that is only powered when the vehicle's engine is running. Not just on Accessory.
      The size of the fuse tap that you need will depend on what fuse holder you decide to use.
