As kings keep updating and making their lineup better. I suggest re designing the battery box for a 2.0 version and adapt other ideas for extra Anderson points, 175amp Anderson point for the kings inverters and some new qc3.0 and qc4.0 outlets. Take some inspiration from battery boxes like the Hardkorr, kickass and itechworld go further box 🤙🏼
Yes, the Kings appear to be stuck with an old-style box. and they can do so much better.
Spot on !
@@stevecrowe176 I got sick of waiting got one on ebay that has everything cost me $450 all good now.
Simple & brilliant - I visited the Parkison megastore yesterday, walked away with a new 45L fridge/freezer plus a 120AHr Lithium, DC/DC charger plus some other wiring gear, I think this setup however is way simpler, clearer, quicker & far easier.
Cahn, I can’t thank you enough for the tutorial. My Kings Lithium battery and box worked a treat over the weekend powering my 40l Engel. The new charger arrives today from 4WDSC and I can’t wait to install it like you have. Really appreciate the effort you guys go to helping novices like myself. Thanks also for how that small piece of plastic is used as well to stop the battery moving around.
Thanks Scott,
Hopefully it all works as easily for you as it did for me!
Cheers,
Cahn
Your 12v series over the last couple of years has been gold. Thank you. I've used a lot of your advise, and whilst not always with Kings products, it is really appreciated. I do have the Kings battery box and control panel as part of my second battery system and all is well. Cheers Jerry
G'day Jerry,
Appreciate the comment, the feedback and thanks for watching!
Cheers,
Cahn
The videos are great to copy builds on quality gear too!✔️✔️✔️
❤❤ rippa tutorial & loving my new Kings Lithium battery 🔋 using this exact setup in the tub of the Ford Ranger when camping - thanks heaps for the easy to follow video.
Very very nice and budget friendly setup..simple but efficient. .. 👍
That’s brilliant, I’ve been wondering if I could have a set up like that. Thanks.
Thanks Cahn appreciate the vid mate and have just done the upgrade myself 🙏
This is the video I’m long looking for. Thank you!
Nice set up 👌 on my list
luvin these vids!!
Has kings thought about doing the 3 plug Anderson’s similar to the kickass dcdc so it’s easier for your average punter to connect up the remote wire. Atleast the 3 plug is always backwards compatible with the regular 2 plug
5:16 im going to do this for my vehicle but i have a control box that i want to use as well. Any guide will help. Cheers
What size and type battery was 25 amp charger and 40 amp charger rated to. I can't find it again in the video
12v 100ah LIFepo4 batteries have decreased by 50% in the UK in the last two months , I can see a lot of people using this set up😊
Can I use the 40amp charger with this battery box?
I have an Anderson outlet in the tub of my ute which is already switched off via the ignition (fused and isolated, roughly the equivalent of your 50A wiring kit but not always live). I only run a fridge from this outlet but am thinking I'd like to have the fridge run off an auxiliary battery when the car is off and don't want to go full dual battery installation. Can I simply connect the ignition wire and starter battery wire together and run to the 12V of this outlet. DCDC converter should get 12V from starter battery while ignition is on but not sure if this impacts on the smart alternator (which apparently I do have). Plan is to take the battery box out of the car when the fridge is not required day to day so will also need another maintenance charging option for the auxiliary battery while out of the car. Thanks for any advice you can provide.
Excellent vid, thanks. If my battery box setup is going in the caravan, is there a need for the blue ignition wire, if so where would it hook up to?
Cheers
Hi there,
If you were wanting to have this charged from the alternator of your vehicle and your vehicle had a smart alternator you would need to create an extension for the ignition wire on its own circuit.
Cheers, Courtney
Another approach in the same vein: I used a Maxi battery box with 120Ah Lithium battery, attached the DCDC charger to the internal divider and attached the solar and 12V input Anderson plugs to the lid by taking the pins out of the plugs and running them through holes drilled in the lid. It needs a little cable management on the inside to get the lid to close properly but it's not difficult.
Is there any concern regarding overheating the dcdc charger or battery by moutning it in the small space? I'm considering a similar setup.
@@thefieryphoenix1 I've only used it on solar charging with a 200W blanket and the DCDC charger gets warm but not hot, probably because there's a bit of empty space around it.
There's enough space to mount a small 12V fan and the box is far from airtight so it should allow decent airflow too.
This is a great option to use while going off grid. Should hold up well to my 75l fridge and led lighting. My Pajero is fitted with a smart alternator. Do I just link the blue to cig plug positive and no further wiring? Or do I have to run the additional cables from the main starter battery and plug in aswell via the Anderson plug to charge the battery box? Great video, just gets a bit muddy with the blue cable section...
Hi there,
You will need to run the full cabling from the starter battery to ensure the a full circuit.
Cheers, Courtney
Hello very helpful video! just wondering if it’s necessary to hook up the blue wire if my vehicle doesn’t have a smart alternator?
Did you end up hooking up the blue wire I am in the same position I don’t have a smart alternator
Great Video Cahn. Can the dc dc charger charge via solar without having it connected to the starter battery?
I bought one and yes it can.
In this example are you using the blue wire which you connected to the 12v sig connector, then would plug into the socket to trickle charge while driving
Hi there,
That's spot on, the blue ignition wire allows the charger to open up power input from the alternator when wired correctly.
Regards, Andrew
Thanks for the easy to follow vid, one question though. What do I do with the negative wire from the cig plug after connecting the ignition to the positive wire? 4:31
Terminate it or cut and tape. You do not need the black wire, as the only requirement is the red for 12v switched +ve.
@@daveinoz7813 What do you mean by terminate it ? cutting the negative wire means only cutting the non insulated wire and tape it?
Cahn, this is great mate! For the blue ignition wire did you just crimp the positive and negative from the cig plug together in the spade terminal? Cheers.
Hi there,
Only the positive wire was crimped as if you crimped both together it would short circuit. This is just to get the 12V+ for the ignition wire, the earth is still picked up from the DCDC charger onto the battery itself (and the 50A wiring kit to the starter battery). Cahn also checked that the cig socket on the vehicle was only 'on' when the ignition was on. With some cars the cig sockets are 'on' all the time which wouldn't work for this setup.
Regards, Courtney
@@AdventureKings thanks Courtney. Yes I have the 50 amp wiring kit and also have a cig socket in the back of my ute that only has power when the ignition is on. Thank you
Thanks for the awesome vid. I’ve completed my battery box as you have. The only question I have, with the cig plug, I have two cables feeding from the cig plug, while there’s only one from the DCDC Charger. Does it matter which cable I connect it to? Hope that makes sense.
This! Was wondering same question
@@markwatson8886 hey mate. I worked it out. Needs to be connected to the positive end of the cig plug (which is the middle pin of the plug). The negative can just be terminated, cause there’s already one connected to the battery box from the battery. Let me know if I can help more.
Cahn....Thanks for this great idea. I too have just done the same thing using Kings 60a lith, box, and 25a dcdc charger. I do have one question, if I may. When the isolator switch is off, does that only cut out going power. Or incoming power as well. In other words when switch is off, my fridge is off, but will the dcdc charger still top up the battery, or not.? Thanks Cahn....Mal
Hi there,
I can advise that the isolator switch is a full isolation switch, so when active will cut the battery off completely.
Regards, Andrew
With the cig plug idea which is great, did you only connect the possitive wire in the plug??
Hi there,
Just the positive wire as if you crimp both together this would short circuit!
Regards, Courtney
Great video. Question that’s probably a silly one, if the battery box is turned off will the battery still charger through solar and while driving or no?
Hi there, In order to charge the battery while in the battery box, the box needs to be turned on as the switch on the box is a full isolator. Kind regards, Rachael
Can you then run your car fridge from the battery box whilst you are driving and thus charging. i.e. charge and discharge at the same time?? Great vid though
Yes correct. It charges as you drive while using the fridge.
Hey I’ve just bought a battery battery box wiring kit and dc dc charger from you guys how do you connect the ignition cable up to the cig plug being only one wire I’d like to connect it up as I’m not sure if my Ute has a smart alternator
Just connect blue wire to the positive of cig plug
Can you have the solar input connected and working at the same time as the 12V from the starter battery?
Yes, can run just solar
With a vehicle that has smart alternator do you need to hook up the second wire from the cig socket that he uses?
Hi there,
You can just terminate the other wire!
Cheers, Courtney
What size spade connectors are compatible with the ignition to positive cig socket wires? Thanks.
Hi there,
This is a lug terminal to suit a 50a anderson plug, our ones are measured at 3cmL, 0.8cmW, 1cm diameter!
Cheers, Courtney
Simple and effective 👍
Quick question... When connecting the ignition wire to a sig socket, do you just connect the positive and cap the negative?
Looks like he just tapped it up
Connect to the red wire and both go to the Cig Plug. The black must still go to Cig Plug.
So, the Blue ignition wire can go to the cigarette lighter socket? Is this blue ignition wire just one wire / core, or more? And the battery can charge from this lighter socket?
The blue wire is just a trigger, no charge through this connection
So even with the blue wire connected to a cig plug, you still have to run 50amp wiring kit to main Battery?
I'm looking at this setup for the boat. The outboard does not have smart alternator. Do I ned to connect the blue ignition wire if this is the case?
Hi there,
As this is connected to the cig plug this ignition wire is not needed to connect to the outboard on the boat.
Regards, Courtney
Im also using the 50a wiring kit to my 25a dcdc charger, do you recommend that I change the 60a fuse to 30a?
Hi there,
The recommended fuse size for our 25A DCDC Charger is 30 Amps.
Regards, Courtney
Hi Cahn,
Does ignition blue wire connect to positive or negative wire on the cig plug?
TA
Positive
@@benperkins2929 so its ok to leave negative unconnected? Cheers
Hey mate. I have a question i did the same set up what you did but my battery us 115am deep cycle. Why my 25Amp dc to dc charger gets really hon when is charging. I worried my ute get burned when i leave it on charge wuth the alternator
Hi there,
This is fairly standard to be hot while charging, we do have an operating temperature for these units of -20°C to 80°C.
Regards, Courtney
Hi,
The instruction manual says to connect the negative wire to the chassis not the battery if you have a smart alternator. Does this need to happen?
Hi there,
We do recommend while using the alternator to ground up the chassis, this can be easily done by adding a bolt or other similar clipping point to have a groundable section directly to the chassis.
Regards, Courtney
Mate doing some DIYs here using 25 amp dcdc charger.i am confused on where to tap the ignition wire(blue) on the cig plug wire?most of the cig plug has positive and negative wires?where will i connect the negative?there is only 1 wire on the dcdc charger!
Hi there,
You can either tape or terminate it!
Cheers, Courtney
If I had a solar panel with a regulator, would you just plug that into the Anderson plugs on the top?
That is correct!
Cheers, Courtney
Can the ign wire be connected to a fuse adapter then plug into the fuse box for a more permanent setup?
Hi Ryan,
Yes you can!
Cheers, Courtney
Can i use the cig plug instead of running wires from starter battery to charge aux battery?
Hi there,
You can, however most car cig plugs have a very low amperage so this may take a while to recharge.
Regards, Courtney
My car already had a 12v Anderson’s plug at the rear of the car fitted when I bought it (‘22 ford ranger) that has been run through some sort of isolator. Could I use this cable to plug in as the starter batter input on the dcdc charger or does it need to go direct to the starting battery? (Remove the already fitted isolator) Assuming the dcdc becomes the isolator
Hi there,
This should be fine to plug into the DCDC charger.
Regards, Courtney
4:02 how do u connect the ignition wire with the Cig plug? ignition blue wire with the positive only of the Cig plug, and leave the negative unwired ?
yeah i wanna know too. i guess if you dont connect the negative, it should earth out the the sides of the cig plug to the car... but i dunno
Correct, Blue to positive only
will these DCDC chargers accept a house solar panel 38v and will it drop the voltage to 12v output for my 12v battery ?
Hi Jason,
We would recommend checking with the solar panels manufacturer if this is something that is possible.
Cheers, Courtney
Does the DC to DC charger solar input with an inbuilt Mttp controller charges the battery independent from vehicle alternator?
Hi there,
Our DCDC charger does have an inbuilt MPPT solar controller.
Regards, Courtney
Yes, can charge without starter battery
What if you already have a regulator in your solar, does it work aswell?
Hi there,
As our DCDC chargers have a built in regulator you can remove the regulator from your solar setup or connect it directly to the battery and bypass the DCDC charger.
Regards, Courtney
Does the cigy plug is both crimp red & black to the blue wire ?
It’s look like on video but not showing clearly.
Thanks for reply !
Hi there,
Only the positive wire is crimped as if you crimped both together it would circuit.
Regards, Courtney
Bad idea, short circuit
On the cig lighter end do you join postive and negative wires together then join to blue wire?
Hi there,
You will have to cut and tape the negative wire.
Cheers, Courtney
@@AdventureKings are you talking aobut cutting the non insulated negative wire and putting tape over the hole? thanks
Does the blue wire connect to the positive or negative of the cigarette plug? And what happens to the unconnected wire?
I'd love to know the answer to this as well
Positive
Good question.
What happens to the negative wire?@@craigd123
I take it that this can't be done with a 40 amp dcdc to this battery box? My box says 30 amp
Does the control box plug into the anderson plug of the batery box?
Hi there,
You can, but this is not ideal. Any time you add more connections and wires you're increasing resistance, so it'd be better off to run direct to battery. That being said, if you were not running heaps of power-hungry accessories through the control box it'd be ok! The fuse on the battery box quick connect plug is 30A, but the control box is rated to 50A total, so you couldn't power everything from the control box if you went that way.
Regards, Courtney
Hey kings, I run your battery box with agm through an isolator off my main starting battery into one input and have a panel feeding through the other input off a mppt regulator. Silly question how is this different and can I adapt your 25amp dcdc to my current set up in a similar format and also wire in my rear Anderson plug to keep a charge on my caravan batteries x2 115ah agm. Big help if you could show me the way cheers 🍻
Hi there,
The DCDC charger will narrow these inputs down to one input as you can run your alternator and panel to your DCDC unit freeing up the other anderson connection.
Cheers, Courtney
@@AdventureKings thanks Courtney, that’s great will I be able to leave my isolator under the hood and just wire up as per the video. There is fuses a plenty
Will the 25amp wire kit do as I have it with the 25amp dc to dv
Hi there,
It sure will!
Cheers, Courtney
Got a question: What happens when I don’t plug the ignition wire on and I don’t have a smart alternator will my car still charge the battery when the car is on and also when my car is off will the lithium battery drain my starter battery even while my car is off if I still have it plugged in
Hi there,
This will isolate the system whilst receiving variable voltage input while there is no ignition cable. This can also drain your starter battery while the unit is still plugged in.
Cheers, Courtney
Can u you still charge your battery using the 50 amp and without using that blue ignition wire.?
Yes, if you don't have a smart alternator
Is important the amount of amp the cig plug is? Thanks
Hi there,
We recommend a 15A cig plug.
Regards, Courtney
Ive run into a problem, ive connected my cranking battery to my isolator then to my dcdc charger which is connected to my aux battery, i have found that a 30aml fuse in the battery box has melted! And yes ive earthed bother aux battery and dcdc charger
Hi Ryan,
We would like if you were able to contact us on social@4wdsupacentre.com.au with a screenshot of this comment and further information on your setup so we can review this further for you.

can you use a car battry
will this only charge/work when the battery box is turned to on?
Yes, but battery box needs to be on to run fridge
So if i connect it to my cig plug, do i still need to run cables from the starter battery and connect to the battery box?
Cig plug is just a trigger, you still need connection to start battery
So do only connect the blue to the cig red ? Leave the black disconnected on the cig plug ? And can you just connect the battery in direct to a cig plug instead of running wires from the primary battery ?
What’s the input wattage requirement for the DCDC charger? My rear cig socket is labelled as 120W. Is that more than normal? Can I run power to that instead?
I have a Hilux N70, so do I have to put a super long wire in to connect the ignition cable as I don't have a cig socket in the tub?
Hi there,
You may have to do this depending on your vehicle, we would recommend our 12v fridge wiring kit if you were needing to.
Regards, Courtney
@AdventureKings I have the dual battery kit from kings and using this as my second battery rather than under the hood. I'm not intending in using a fridge. Do I have to wire up a 12v cigarette socket in the back of the tub?
How do you know if it’s charging via cig plug? I just have the agm light flashing
Hi there, if the lights dim all the time, you may not be getting charge through. Kind regards, Rachael
Is there any difference f9rna smart alternator hook up
Hi there,
There is no difference in the wiring if you have a smart alternator.
Cheers, Courtney
Hi! I want to connect 12v cig cable, where can I buy it? Thanks!
Hi there,
You can find this at stores such as supercheap auto!
Cheers, Courtney
Not sure if I have connected the ignition wire correctly. When my vehicle is off, the alternator light and battery light continue to flash on the DCDC charger. Is this normal?
Hi there,
This is normal when the vehicle is turned off!
Cheers, Courtney
is this charger going to fit on compact battery box for 60ah?
Hi there,
Unfortunately I don't believe the compact box will be big enough to fit the DCDC charger.
Regards, Courtney
Hey, if we don’t have a smart alternator, we need to use the blue cable ?
No you don’t but I’d still recommend it
So if i use the 12v socket as the ignition wire. When the car is off will it still use power from the battery box to power whatever you have connected to it ie you're fridge or camp lights?
Hi Jason,
We wouldn't recommend this as indirect ignition connections may not read accurately.
Regards, Courtney
@AdventureKings Hi Courtney let me rephrase that. I'll do exactly as the video. My question is when the car is off will my second battery still power all my stuff ie fridge. With the way the ignition wire is powered in this video?
Yes, your battery box will still power your fridge once ignition is off.
Just make sure you don't turn off your battery (isolation switch)
@duanewardle-rd3lm your a legend mate, thanks
@@jasonblade1037 yes mate absolutely. The blue wire is just to allow the DCDC charger to draw current from the main battery and alternator to charge the Aux. The Aux battery will power your camping fridge etc until it flattens without killing the start battery..
Can anyone tell me the size cable that’s required to extend the ignition cable to under the bonnet?
Hi there,
Pretty much any sized wire would be fine, but this depends on the length.
Regards, Courtney
should the lithium bat light and solar and aulternator light flash when only charging with solar please
Hi there,
If the alternator, solar and battery lights are quickly flashing this can indicate that there is low voltage detected at alternator and solar input. Please refer to our manual under 3.2 for how to assist with this.
Regards, Courtney
It shows that all those devices are connected
I assume I can just charge my batter from a cig outlet while Im driving?
Hi there, This can be charged via the alternator via the DC DC charger. Unfortunately we do not have a cigarette outlet that works for this method. Kind regards, Rachael

why dosent a 300w solar pannel work on mine but a 160 w dose, the 300w one works on my caravan on a mppt reg but wont work on the dcdc charger i got from you
Hi there,
This would mean the 300W solar panel would be above capacity for our DCDC charger.

No battery isolator required then?
Hi there,
A battery isolator is not needed if using a DCDC charger.

silly questiion how do i know the dcdc charger is working or charging
