Kodak Gold with a cheap on-camera flash is THE look of the 90s. Last time I tried Gold with flash I thought, "oh my gosh this looks like high school!!!" The photos immediately made me think of Nirvana and pagers and Fresh Prince and slap bracelets. I don't know what it is about how Gold responds to flash but it transforms in a really punchy but graceful kind of way.

Been shooting a lot of Gold lately and loving it too! But on the east coast it’s been hard to come by, so when I see it or it comes in stock online I buy it up. Also on the east coast the only drug store film I come across on the rare occasions it’s in stock is Ultra Max 400. But it’s over priced and come in 24 exposures.

I agree…also I’m just not a fan of Ultra-Max. Love Kodak Gold, long as it’s daylight. For lowlight-that’s where the fine grain of Portra/Lomo comes in. I REALLY wish Walgreens would drop the UltraMac and start carrying Gold instead👍🏼

I've been shooting with Gold for 3 months now and it's an absolute beast, made some beautiful pictures. There's one I've taken during night In a tunnel which had LED stripes on the sides of it and my friends where in the middle so it looks brilliant. The only con is that night photography is hard on it, but except that it's a BEAST

I think Gold and Ultramax give off what I call "family photo" vibes, i.e. they remind me of photo's you'd find in an older family album. That isn't a bad thing or an insult though. I love the vibes it gives and use it specifically in some situations for those feels.

Currently (11-26-21) you can get Kodak Gold 200 at B and H. It's $10, up from $6.50 just two months ago.

YES!! You just validated my feelings about Kodak Gold 200, I have definitely noticed that superia has a greenish yellow shift in my Pentax K1000, but with Kodak Gold the images are definitely warmer, which I agree looks GOOD to my eye. With a 50mm 1.4 wide open, the superia has this funky 1970's glam photo look, which can look kinda cool in a stylistic way. the Kodak Gold I thought looked great when I went to the lightner museum in St Augustine Florida on the sandstone and blue skies. It just fits warm summer scenes exactly like you want. Superia is at it's best with cooler season landscape scenes. I think it has something to do with your expectations of the color palette given the scenes. Warm tones are expected in warm scenes, more blue green in fall and winter. Mixing those up just looks... weird! Bang for the buck wise, it's really easy to get nice photos with Kodak Gold, I have yet to be disappointed by the pictures I get with it. It's a very forgiving film in that regard

    • @pancakelens75
      @pancakelens75 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I live in Phoenix and Kodak Gold makes for some beautiful photos for this desert climate, long as it’s daytime. Obviously it’s a faster speed, daylight balanced film, too grainy for lower light golden hour-that’s where the fine grain of Portra or Lomo come in. But for daylight shooting Gold is my go-to👍🏼

Hi again from Spain, KingJvpes! So great to hear about your thoughts on this film, in fact I discovered its potential some rolls ago and I totally agree! I love it! The point is here in Spain there’s no problem to find Kodak Gold, Portra, or Ektar. The problem comes when you try to get some Fuji C200 (which I personally love) that was a cheap film (it was available everywhere three of four years back for less than 5€/$) but it isn’t anymore, it’s very hard to find anywhere and the prices have risen up to 10€!!

After I clear out my film archive to a folder to free up space, I found out that I didn't shoot Kodak Gold for 10 years now, the last time I shoot with it is probably early 2014 as far as I remember but I still didn't found my archive from that time using Kodak Gold.
My impression at the time is that I don't think it's a particular good film compare to more expensive professional film which I am more amazed by them, Kodak Gold have somewhat tough grain, high contrast, and a bit vibrant picture with yellow tint, which I don't particularly like at the time and it's a film my father always buy back when in was in my childhood, when I found a store that sell more expensive film, I try those film and never go back unless I just want to shoot just for testing the camera and didn't want to care about the picture. Maybe I have some prejudice but I to this day I still have a feeling that I don't want to shoot cheap film, the only cheaper film I shoot time to time is Kodak ProImage 100 and sometime Fuji either 100 200 or 400 but I rarely do though not to the point of not shooting with it at all like I do with Kodak Gold and ColorPlus.

Need give Superia (any of them, 200/400/800) about 1/3 to 2/3 stop under rating and it shines. When Superia is underexposed its one of the ugliest films there is IMO. When it's slightly overexposed it's exquisite. (It'll take a full stop or a more but not nearly as well as 400H or Portra, but I like it's look better than those. Been a lot of years since I shot Gold though... I'd say I should give it a run but prices have gone nuts for it (all film I suppose but it hurts).

Kodak Gold was obscenely cheap here in Germany until recently. You could pick up a three-pack for 7.90 euros in a drugstore. Recently they've upped the prices to 18 euros, more than 100% increase. Still relatively cheap in comparison with other colour films but I feel a bit ripped off paying so much more than what I was paying just six months ago. Anyway, it's a film that has grown on me a bit because I didnt like it at first (it's pretty crap when it's not sunny). Still, I think I prefer Colorplus when it comes to cheaper Kodak.

IME Fuji always gave artificial colour, almost electronic. I used to regularly use Agfachrome or Ektachrome instead. Agfa CT-100 was superb.

Great clip, great Channel! I come from Germany and we get 3 Kodak gold rolls for 16$ in some stores for 10$ ist unbelievable. But it’s super hard to get other Films like the Lomo or anything without Kodak gold, ultra max and B&W Film

Sad and funny that film have gotten so expensive we’re turning to Gold and trying to make the best of it. I started film photography 8-9 years ago. Back then I was able to get portra 400 for $5, c200 or colorplus 200 for $2, and Velvia for ~$7. That’s also when a contact t2 was $200-300, before airhead Kendall Jenner had to go and open her mouth about it. I also started with gold so nothing wrong with it.> def does give that nostalgic childhood feel and balanced overall as long as it’s exposed well. In short, once you start to get too creative with it it’ll fight back :)

Kodak Gold FTW!!! $18(canadian) for 3x24 rolls at Walmart. I've only spotted Superia at one drugstore chain here and it's $40 for 3 rolls... No thanks! B&H, Moment, etc have Gold, but it's always sold out... Film problems...🤣🤦‍♂️

Kodak Gold is my top as well for now. I know this is an old vid and maybe you have a more recent vid changing this again but I'll ask are you still shooting gold? My only real issue is that locally I can only find the 24 exposure gold which is fine but those extra 12 shots make me reach for Superia more often than I'd like because I really do prefer gold for a everyday film.

I think the price hike of film in the last 2 yrs is disgusting and the coming raise is another slap in the face. I understand inflation but these prices are ridiculous. There's no reason besides greed. If there's a shortage There's a shortage. Raising the price doesn't magically solve it. And with more people buying and shooting film, why mess up a good thing. This makes film really unappealing. I hope black and white can stay down but even that has risen significantly in just one year. I love film photography so much. It'd be sad to someday only shoot black and white on my digital mirrorless.
    All because companies got greedy.
Because all my Polaroid land cameras are now display pieces since fp100c got ridiculous in price. Portra is already ridiculous. And all others are not far behind. Personally I love all film even the so-called lower end films. I find them beautiful in their own ways. But videos like this create demand and then price hikes. Which is sad because in you guys they have free advertisements daily on the gold they produce. It's just sad. I hope it changes for the better but am glad I have about 60 rolls of so many different types of film stocks.

Hmm ill have to shoot some. Normally i shoot color digital and B&W film. I was a long time lover of Fuji Acros 100. When that went away, i stayed with kodak porta. Good vid. Ill add this to my rotation.

As late as early 2020 you could buy Koda GOLD 200 3-Pcks here for 7.99, now they go for 17.99, which is just hard to take. Still a great stock.
