Also "Fast" and "Slow" refers to shutter speeds! So slower films will generally meter with slower shutter speeds because it needs more light. And Faster films will meter with faster shutter speeds because higher iso films need less light!
JAMMED SHUTTER FIX FOR BESSA R2A & R3A (For when your R3A's shutter jams (usually at the end of a roll): 1. rewind and remove the roll 2. close the film back 3. turn the dial to a manual shutter speed (taking it out of auto) 4. complete the wind and trigger the shutter. Note: if you leave the dial in "auto," the shutter and lever remain jammed. Ha ha. The Zeiss Ikon has the same Copal shutter.
Confession, I watched this twice & I should've taken notes! Used my porta 160 indoors with my digital mindset - "oh it'll be fine, just push the iSO to 800! (could have been more, don't remember). I just got the scans back and now it all makes sense. High grain, sorta expired film glow. Def won't throw the scan away - but it was a good user experience seeing how far the iso films can go. Or you can pull Kodak P3200 or Ilford 3200 down to 1600 - that’s what I do. Using a fine grain developer like X-tol minimizes the grain of 3200 film a lot. When I tried Rodinol on these films, the results were course and unbearable.

Just a beginner here but I'll mention vintage cameras and shutter speed. I got a Pentax Spotmatic (1960s) a couple months ago. I'm not sure what more modern 35mm cameras max shutter speed is but the Spotmatic is 1/1000 second. I haven't tried an ISO400 film yet, but imagine that on a bright day ISO400 might actually be too sensitive ideally warranting a faster than 1/1000 shutter speed. Any thoughts? Then again, maybe I'm just used to leaning towards wider apertures. Smaller apertures like above f11 probably take care of this and bring down shutter speed quite a bit.
I hope in the future, u’ll do review or recommendations of film cameras and iso(s) sample photos so that we can see what they look like and the amount of grain we want in our photos. Inside a museum, I would use 800 iso by you probably could get away with 400 if you can hold the camera steady with a slow shutter speed. If you are doing general traveling, I would use 400 iso since 400 is an all in one film type

I have the canon af35m i got it on eBay condition is good but im unsure if it rly works bc of the film that was developed.. also had a bit of trouble rewinding the film so maybe thats why😭 can you put in 400iso. Film n set it to 200iso or no?
Shame about Bessa. Loved mine. Same thing happened to the shutter of the Voigtländer. Everyone I talked to didn't want to work on them and I had to sell it.
one thing about Kodak P3200, I believe it is natively an 800 ISO or maybe even 1000 ISO film. Hence the name, P3200. If needed it can be pushed to 1600 or 3200. I have yet to shoot it at 800 or 1000 but I plan to just to see what I get. Thanks for an informative video.
"The higher the ISO the more grain you are going to have...." That is not always true. Generally higher higher ISO films have more grain. However sometimes two different film speed from the same company can have the same grain size but the resolving power of the slower film will be greater. I have portraits I shot in the 90's on 25 ASA film. I can see one strand of hair standing up on 4 by 6 prints. Back in the 90's Kodak Royal Gold 25 and Royal Gold 100 had the same size grain but the resolving power of the Royal 25 is higher.

You need to push +2 TMax 3200 to get it to 3200. It's native around 800-1000 without pushing but developed to be pushed without big loss of detail. In that case Delta 3200 just needs push +1 in my experience. This film is native at a little less than 1600 from what I've read and can confirm from my experience...
So if you want to shoot fast moving objects, like sports for example and it’s a very bright sunny day, would you go for a high ISO in order to shoot at a fast shutter speed like 1/1000?
That’s one way to go about it! Keeping you film ISO high forces you to have faster shutter speeds even when you stop down! 1/250 minimum to freeze action!
I dont know how much it helps, but I have a great camera repair shop near me, photo center in brick NJ. Theyre currently repairing my nikon FE2. Prices are reasonable to great. Other side of the continent from you though.

What happens is that when I'm in relatively low light, and I set the shutter speed to automatic, even at aperture F11 the shutter speed goes up to 1000+ (the maxiunum on my camera). Hey, I've recently completed my photography coursework. From my findings, I would use the 800 films as they're great for night photography. I've used Kodak 400 ultramax and some black and 400 films on an automatic film camera. They didn't come out very good as there was constant ghosting, bad exposures and blurs. After my transition to a manual film camera. I've used the Portra 800 films (prices werent too high earlier this year in the UK compared to the current trend and prices). They have displayed nice exposures, colour definition and nice detail (I try to aim for a 1/125 shutter speed). If you ask your developer not to edit the image, the film gives the image a heavy dose of yellow saturation within the image after using HDR Toning. Don't worry, this can be easy fixed and the yellow saturation being removed in the camera raw filter (Photoshop). I will be posting parts of my film photography coursework after Aug/2022 on instagram @Chen_On_Earth if you are intrested in seeing them. Good Luck : )
I was using 400 ISO then I finished the the roll of film and put in a film of 200ISO but I forgot to change the dial on the camera. Is there any way I can save the exposures. Through the developing process?
There is. Don't panic. All you did here was "push" the 200 iso film to 400. If you have not finished the roll yet don't change anything. Just finish it as if it were a normal roll of 400 iso. If you are using a commercial lab to process your film just let them know when you drop it off that it was pushed to 400. Pushing film is something that is done quite often and the lab will know how to process it properly. If you are developing it yourself there are tables you can Google search to give you the adjustments you will need to make to get the best results. Hope that helps.

Hey man. Coming from digital, I’m used to underexposing like a mad man (sometimes I’ll just leave my ISO at 100, set my aperture to get the DoF that I want and adjust shutter speed as needed). Because I want to get in to shooting film: do ISO values for "correct" exposure in my digital camera translate to the same ISO values in film? In other words: if I pay more attention to exposing correctly with my digital camera, will that tell me which film speeds would work for the type of shooting that I do?

I can only find Fuji 400 at CVS and Walmart and similar places. Luckily I have a couple different camera shops locally that stock film. One I go to for Portra and Cinestill, more expensive or harder to find film stocks. And the other for cheaper like ilford hp5 and Kodak gold
Nobody explains, what's the difference between a picure taken with 100 film and one with 400 film suposing their exposures are both correct??? Except the grain. Somebody knows the answer?

Ohok so to summarize if you have lower Numbers your Speed should be lower as well?
Wish 1600 native speed film still exists! I love shooting it when I had the chance to. Guess I’ll just push 800 from now on lol

I started out with 200 and I've never tried anything else. I'm quite happy with Fujicolor C200 and Kodak ColorPlus 200, not too grainy and sharp.

200 will be fine for the most part if you have a fast lens and is generally more affordable

There is.

Maybe a silly question.... but that Voightlander doesn't have a mirror lock-up on it does it??? If it does, is maybe just in Mirror lock-up?
The Bessa is a rangefinder and has no mirror to lock up, I think the shutter mechanism is just jammed

yeah i think so, but keep in mind your better off overexposing with film
