I really admire this show for managing to be dark, without feelings edgy. That's very hard to accomplish, especially when it comes to superhero media. Just look at "The Boys" (the comics, the show is actually better).
Nah. The constant and excessive blood, gore, and ultraviolence definitely make this show seem edgy. I will say that, like The Boys, it's still a marked improvement over the comics.
Invincible, the comic and the show, yave always been a reconstruction of the genre. Acknowledging the realistic elements the genre often lacks while also reaffirming the ideals of the genre. Whereas a deconstruction like The Boys simply revels in tearing those ideals down
One small correction about angstrom is he likely wasn’t corrupted one version that hated invincible. The angstrom with the actual powers states that in most universes Invincible joins Omni-Man in subjugating earth, so a majority of his doppelgängers probably weren’t fans of Invincible.

It's not that this Mark, in the whole multiverse, is the only Mark to choose to oppose his father and the other viltrumites when confronted with the choice, it's that he's the only Mark to not get his face pummeled into and smeared all across the Himalayas for it

I know it's early to say this, but the show is already a superior version of the source material. Like the comic isn't bad by any means, but the show is expanding on characters/plot beats that didn't get much focus or making changes that enhance the story. Nolan redemption is already better then how the comic did it and i love how Debbie is at the forefront of the story.
I also love how the show handled Mark's reunion with Nolan. In the comics, he's begging for Nolan to come back home. But in the show, he's angry at him, and rightfully so. Granted, in the comics, Nolan never killed that many people, unlike his animated counterpart (the subway scene was only in the show), but still.

My theory is that this Mark is a hero (unlike most of the others) because he got his powers relatively late. Most other Marks get their powers as kids/pre-teens, and so start their official training/indoctrination by Nolan while they're still very young and very impressionable. This Mark is part of a small subset of Invincibles that get their powers very late - so late that Nolan starts beginning to doubt whether they'll get powers at all. They start their training as older, more established individuals, and so are much less susceptible to indoctrination.
Yeah the Mark in the universe shown in the intro of the season likely had different circumstances leading up to that. Robot still having his old organic body is proof of this.
@@LGreat16yeah, one impactful scene last season was Nolan remembering a little league baseball game Mark played in. Where, after Mark wins the game he feels very proud of his boy. I think a Nolan who's son is already developing his powers by that age would've been pushing him for more aggressive sports and his mind would be on training Mark to be a proper Viltrimite boy instead of the more quite life he led in our Mark's dimension.
Arcane to me is an example of what I would call the “prestige cartoon”. A tv show with big budgets with movie-quality directing and animation. It’s too bad we’re not going to get a lot of cartoons like Arcane, because it’s very costly.
I think they wanted Season 2 out now because it came around the same time Omni-Man became a playable character in the new Mortal Kombat game. In that game, Omni-Man makes a few mentions of alternate dimensions and Angstrom Levy, which are things that nobody knew about in season 1. The watcher-only crowd might get alienated and confused if those lines dropped in the game and they didn't know what they meant. Either way, having the new season and Omni-Man DLC drop around the same time is gonna build as much hype as possible, similar to the way those memes did from the first season.

Not every episode has to have some kind of set up for a bigger overall plotline. I feel like this mindset kinda detracts from just how enjoyable the characters are entirely on their own. Eve, Debbie, Mark and the Guardians feel like standouts entirely separate from any big story. They’re enjoyable entirely on their own. And it’s a good thing that we’re taking our time to flesh out these characters bit by bit. Even if it feels aimless, we have a big cast, which isn’t always a bad thing. The comics go on for a while, so we have time to flesh out this big cast.
Exactly. Not everything in season one was relevant to the overall plot but even if this season doesn't have the same hook as season one, it has some amazing hooks coming up. People just need to be patient.

To me it felt like the big threat was the Viltrumites. Whilst it isn't actually always referenced, it's always in the back of my head in each episode which I felt was paid off well in episode 4
I think, as mentioned in the video, this season (and show overall) could really benefit from a higher number of shorter episodes. 16 episodes of half the length would have solved the weird release schedule, would give the show time to breathe and let the characters just exist in the world, without feeling like we're rushing through it. With the short, 8 episode season, it feels like they're cramming it all in now to fit in the major plot beats in the second half of the season. I hope the pacing finds more balance so the series doesn't drag to a 10+ season run. Alternatively, a stronger throughline, like even just one scene per episode of Angstrom, would have made it feel more cohesive; to remind viewers that there is a direction that this is all going.
The reason why the show is going on break is because of the watch time. shows don't do good when it comes to months like December. so instead they give the animators a break and let us spend time with our families. A win-win in my opinion

Agreed that the first half of season 2 didn’t have the emotional impact of season 1, but to be fair, it’s hard to replicate the level of emotional investment and suspense that we had building towards Mark’s big confrontation with Nolan in season 1. It feels like a lot of these first 4 episodes were mostly character development for Mark with sprinkles of foreshadowing regarding what’s going to happen in the next few episodes. It definitely feels like the show runners are keeping the major payoffs for the second half of the season, besides episode 4 which sets the stage for the events to come. Without too many spoilers, the point you brought up about Mark needing to learn how to kill will definitely come into focus in the next four episodes and in the series going forward.
Here’s the thing after the first season I delved into the comics which are good they tend to have alot of filler as the show condenses events in a better pacing at times. But invincible gets insane the further the story goes along there is so much being set up in these four episodes. I do hope it gets a complete series to go over all the arcs. Cause this show will definitely be fire especially when Mark puts on his dress blues on. Which is a major shift plenty is coming and I’m excited to see it on the silver screen. Haven’t had this same feeling since reading ahead in the Overlord series before the anime catches up. Hold everyone let this team cook
Exactly. If anything, the issue where Mark reunites with Nolan on Thraxa is where the comics went from great to being one of the best superhero stories ever made.
Honestly the animation quality still holds up really well outside of the Allen's alien species backstory scene, feels like they really wanted to animate that part but didn't have enough time and resources
I won't lie to you I felt quite disappointed by the animation of the final fight in episode 4. In comparison to episode 1 fights it was pretty bad. The animation looked unpolished, the choreography was meh, the fact that it implied that mark would have killed that way older, stronger and experienced viltrumite woman was a little weird. But again that's just how I felt when watching it. Hope they improve these things in later seasons.

Too much cutting away, mark suddenly being able to hold of a trained viltrumite, and the animation felt like a straight down grade compared to season 1.

She is one of the Viltrumites that survived the purge where only the strong lived and that was before Nolan was born. Note: Nolan is over 1000 years old. Viltrumites get stronger with age. If she survived the purge along with CONQUEST there's no way Mark would be able to kill her no matter how much he stops holding back. At least not at this point in the story. I like the slow start to the new season, I’m more a fan of the pitstops on the journey rather than the destination so I really enjoy the more episodic feel as they build up their main threats and main heroes and really have the Greyson’s process the craziness of Season 1. I think they save that suspense and mystery element from Season 1 for Donald and his whole… thing because it’s hard to entice an audience like that more than once and it seems like whatever Cecil’s hiding will blow up later. The fact that I almost forgot to mention the guardians reminds me how forgettable they can be but I like that they also develop from the events of Season 1. I feel like Atom Eve is going down a depressing spiral but with her origin special I hope they’re building her up as the OP badass she could be. I couldn’t tell you why they are releasing it the way they are, if it’s to help the animators I’m down with that and I still appreciate that we got 4 hours of Invincible, that’s like 2 movies!

What I love about Invincible is what makes it different from The Boys. The Boys says, “Superheroes suck.” It takes the bad parts of being Human (selfishness, depravity, violence etc), and cranks it to a million. Invincible says, “Being a superhero sucks.” It acknowledges the difficulties of balancing superhero responsibilities with human urges and instinct, but still shows that the supers are still heroes deep down, and will always strive to do the right thing.
What makes Invincible different from The Boys makes Invincible such a great show, but The Boys is an amazing show in itself as well imo. Prior to Season 2 coming out, I thought The Boys was better, but now with Season 2 putting more focus on individual characters, it's hard to tell which one I like more. Can't wait to see the rest of season 2 and the seasons that follow after!

The binge model has completely ruined how people view television and for all of Disney's faults, releasing show episodes WEEKLY on Disney+ was the best decision they have made in recent years. As someone who's read the whole comics run, without going into spoilers I am very excited for what is to come, though I feel like they're rushing the show quite a bit, and I just hope when Conquest and Invincible wars come that they each get an episode or 2 to themselves.
In regards to Angstrom being set up, then just kinda dropped, the comics work the same way. In both mediums, plots start with something small, and we see a little bit of build up to keep us on our toes. Then, they come back in a REALLY big way. [SPOILERS] This means in the next few episodes, with Mark getting back to Earth and Debbie starting to take care of Oliver (Mark’s brother) we’ll likely have Angstrom come back and kidnap the two of them
One of the bigger things that this mid season hit on that you missed was what the last season ended on. "What will you have in 100 years?" Omniman was able to see what he could have in 100, 200, 300, generations in moments on that planet.

Robert kirkman who is the creator of invincible said that he wanted the break to happen so people can talk about episode 4. He also said in a interview that they already finished the voice acting and writing for season 3 and are currently animating it. So I think that they already finished the last 4 episodes and just want people to build up hype for the next episode.

It's also in theme with Mark's own hiatus. I think it'll help us feel that he was there a while more than if we jumped into a montage time skip. Like, the montage with Omniman didn't really feel like a long period of time.

This review is spot-on. I felt like Invincible S2 took a long time to build momentum because of its slow beginning, with me mostly following along week-to-week because my the rest of my family was doing it. But JUST as it started hitting its stride and I began to eagerly anticipate the next episode, the show stopped dead in its tracks thank to the hiatus.
I personally don't mind the wait, as long as it doesn't fall into the same pitfall Steven Universe did. If they can either have it all come out weekly or just take a little bit of time in-between to fine tune things, then I'm all for it. I'd rather a show take its time and be amazing than to have it arrive on time and feel it's half-baked. Also, I am loving season 2. While it doesn't have the hook that season 1 did, the looming threat of the Viltrumites and the amazing character development of Debbie, Mark and Eve is just great.

That's fair and understandable. What isn't fair and understandable are the comments saying "Better working conditions are bad". The mid season break was just so we can digest what happened and have ideas and theories on what happens next. (Yes I know there are comics.)
Mark is 100% capable of killing, even in the main timeline he's gotten close, really close. And he *can* kill, with how far and how casual he gets in the other timelines. Hell, Angstrom is a good example of where pacifism falls apart, too. Once he can't keep *his* experiences at the forefront, once he has the memories of all the other Angstroms who suffered under the reign of Mark and Nolan, once he *experiences* how bad things can get, he's just not a pacifist anymore. And I think, Mark, having seen chicago butchered, having seen the bug planet exterminated, having seen the father he both hates and wants closure with taken by them to be executed, to rob him of that closure, is at the point where that potential for brutality will truly surface. What his father did was horrific, and it's *lighter* than what they'll do when they come. Hell, maybe he'll talk to Angstrom (mid-fight) as the final push.
What’s really funny is because the season is finished, the creators specifically chose to release the second half later to not get bogged down during the holidays since they think stuff gets forgotten in that time.
So I think this season has been great but I’ll point out the fact that I think season 1 had something going for it that it doesn’t look like the show can replicate. I’m referring to the Hitchcock-esc suspense resulting from Omni Man’s reveal in the first episode. I think you hit the nail on the head with the section of the vid where you talked about the show’s “hook”. I also would like to point out the fact that I don’t like how they’ve continued with Amber’s character without acknowledging her toxic behavior in the first season. I gave season 1 a pass on Amber being toxic because it was so over the top(with things like Amber believing Mark should value being with her at the soup kitchen over literally saving lives.) that I figured it HAD to be intentional to help the story progress in the direction of Mark having a relationship with Eve, but now it seems as if the show is trying to redeem her character without acknowledging the issues by showing how happy she makes Mark, and I really hope I don’t need to say that “she makes you happy, so deal with the toxic behavior” is a bad way of thinking. I’m enjoying the season, but it’s not the masterpiece that season 1 is.
And here I sit, someone that read the comics monthly for 15 years. Show's overall and improvement, they're tweaking some of the parts that didn't work or have dated, doing better by some characters and being able to move some stuff around with hindsight for what's better for pacing and character growth. (Like they moved Robot cloning himself and hanging out with Monster Girl way, way forward. That was a looooong reveal originally.) I just hope at some point they do some big crazy swerve that wasn't in the comics. Its great getting a faithful adaptation but a little surprise would be nice too. beyond them just upping the gore to ridiculous levels.

High-key, Immortal x Dupli-kate makes me *retch.* Even if not strictly *illegal*, just feels so fucking wrong. I can't get a bead on Kate's actual age, wikis are no help and the fact that she plays like a teenager fresh out of high-school (like the rest of the young Guardians) means she's (at best) just under 20 dating a 2000+ year old. And, just... Holy fuck, I've never felt more disgust for the "Mayfly-December" romance trope than I have here. Usually when anime and the like play the "actually 1000 years old" card, it's with a draconic or elvish loli who is exactly as mature as you're thinking, but skates by anyway. Immortal and Kate is the other side of that coin. It's the 2000+ year old man who *has definitely* got that age in experience and wisdom, but using it to sweep a *teenager* off her feet. All I can imagine them having to connect over is their shared status as characters who experience and revive (in a way) from death, so if that was the case, it's a millenia-old guy using the offer of *trauma counseling* as an excuse to _bang a teenager._ At least with the dragon loli shit, the other party is a definitively aged man who has reached full maturity. This feels like a sub-20 year old dating a 50-60 year old and it just getting swept under the rug because he kept his abs while she hasn't had real experiences outside of young experimentation.
I feel like they should’ve just waited till next year to drop the whole season, having a mid season break after 4 episodes coming off of a 3 year hiatus just feels like a tease. Especially considering it airs on a subscription based platform where people will have to pay more money to be able to finish the season than if all 8 came out weekly.
You can't please everyone. First the popular demand was to let projects bake for the sake of quality over quantity. If fans really want more Invincible in no time, they can go to the already completed comic series to fill that void. Not everything is an overworked anime studio.

The problem with those breaks are not the fact they are made for animators to take a break, they are made to milk the amazon subscribers to renew their subscriptions for another month.
This is new trend in shows where they give u half the season n then make u wait for whatever reason to make u come back for the 2nd half of the season...my assumption is there are some type of metrics that show that when u do mid-season breaks u have more viewership as a whole I guess but this system is already dumb with its weekly release schedule already
I actually like the fact that the series is going slow after last season Big fight the characters & Viewers need to time to process everything. Seeing the Guardians still struggling to be effective is amazing. Cause even with a great leader like the Immortal with them its still gonna take time. Super hero teams is different than having a hunch of marines and have them all participate in the same activities. As each hero must be trained differently because of their powers it wouldn't be a quick jump the gun were badasses now. Mark Still adapting to his powers that he got what not even a year ago in the show? Its appropriate for the slow pace. It sucks that the rest of the season comes later sure but thats how you know its quality over quantity they care about the show and aren't going to rush it. However they made an announcement that they would make it come out in late 2023 possibly not realizing at the time how long all this would take. Its for sure forgiving with the wait of the rest of episodes are as good or better than this one.
Why is no one mentioning the fact that the entire season is already finished producing and they simply cut it in half for no reason other than making people subscribe twice?
Because that would make too much sense for these virtue signalers who, in their effort to 'sympathize' with animators, end up simping for a multi-billion dollar corporation.
24 20-minute episodes, accounting for intro and outro would be on average 16 minute episodes. That makes for a total run time about 8 hours with the extra bits and 6.4 hours of actual content. The average episode length of invincible is 50 minutes, and there is like 1 maybe 2 minutes of recap and credits. If we subtract that, our 4 episodes runs at 3.2 hours. A full 8 ep run would be 6.4 hours. That ofc is if it is only 8 episodes, the plotline we're getting with this might push it to 12, meaning the runtime would be about 9.6 hours.
TBH I was highly disappointed with the first half of the season. The last 10 min of episode 4 and the first 10min of episode 1 were the parts I found myself truly enjoying. While it hasn't taking a complete dive in quality, it has gone down hill. Part is the slow pace, but for me its more the poor treatment of mark by those closest to him. Marks mom has some good character reason as she is struggling not seeing Marks father in him. The others mock and belittle him, or blame him for the outcomes of what villains did regularly. Every relationship in Marks life is toxic, and worst yet, the only way he has to deal with it is to roll over or pretend laugh. Considering that in season 1 he was established and being invincible partly because he somehow survives all of his beatings, but also partly because he struggles through and continues to be the good guy and try to help innocents despite it all. The fact that seems to be lost in mark now is a large part of me losing interest. Every time he does something its because of somebody else in the show pushing him to, if not strait up guilting him to. It feels like Marks agency is completely gone, and I'm not here for it. Hope the 2nd part of season 2 steers back, I would hate for the entire thing to be a slow boring slog.
As far as I am aware, wasn't the season 2 hook obvious since the end of Season 1? How will the Viltramits respond now that Nolan has abandoned his post. Will they go directly to Earth or go find Nolan first. Well we got that answer in episode 4. So not sure how anyone missed that hook, felt obvious.
The hilarious fact is that the second season was already completely finished. It was not cut in half for animation purposes. People made upt the fact that the second season needed more time when it was literally already done and only given a break so that people would stay subscribed to amazon for a longer period of time than they would if the entire season was released. This was all just for money and the fact that people are pushing this "break for animation" narrative just shows people not only dont know what they are talking about but they also have no sense of doing a modicum of research to get a full picture. Absolute clowns.
All a ploy for Amazon to wait to release their new add and “premium” subscription. People thinking the break is for animation are crazy, if it took 3 years to animate season 2, how much do you expect them to be able to do in 5 months? A single episode, maybe two?
Invincible is how you do a gritty superhero show right. It's edgy but more so in a "realistic" scenario and they do know when to pull back. The love and idealism for superheroes is so strong here and that's what keeps bringing me back (kind of like how AOT is also a show about optimism vs. nihilism and proves optimistic goals are always better no matter how dire the situation is). These nuances are what help these shows stand out and become exceptional unlike something that's edgy for the sake of being edgy *cough* *cough* The Boys *cough* *cough* I hope they keep this up for as long as possible. I also hope the animators get their due time and pay. Animation is very much not taken seriously in the industry and the fact that the guys in suits keep ignoring the wonders it provides never ceases to annoy me (not to mention the toxic fans who go after the animators for just doing their job). Invincible fans need to chill. I can wait a month, I've waited longer for other stuff.
Honestly, reading the comics has been both a blessing and a curse. The whole lure for season 1 was because I had no clue what, why or how shit was going on. I didn't know what a Viltrumite was outside of what the show told me, I didn't know who Nolan was outside of what he told us, I didn't know what was coming, I didn't have anything. But after reading the comics and seeing this first half of season 2 I'm like "Oh, say they are setting up this arc and that arc." I know what's going to happen before it happens and that's left me feeling less like engaging than before, but after Episode 4 when things were finally gaining momentum it just... stops. I mean sure, I could just go read the comics, they left off right at a place that's easy to pick up from but they really messed up here.
Invincible is nice, because it feels more realistic in the way that people with powers act, while not going as far as The boys and saying everyone is an asshole

The thing is, the fact that there is a pause between the first and second half of Season 2 doesn't really bother me (an quite honestly, shouldn't bother most people). Animation is hard, the actors just went through a (very important and justified) strike, and probably another few reasons as to why the season has to be split. What brings me pause to think is the hope that the time to cook Season 3 hopefully won't be as long as the time it took to cook up Season 2, because that would actually be a series killer. I don't think that the series will survive if Season 3 doesn't arrive in late 2024.
Season 2 is already finished. This isn't for the animators. Amazon don't give a shit about the animators. Also, you're INSANE if you think Season 3 is coming out in the SAME YEAR as season 2. That's wishful thinking to the EXTREME. You'll have to wait until 2025 at LEAST.

The plot lines will connect and (mostly) everything about this current arc will be wrapped up. Yes we might have to wait a bit, but it will be worth it. I’m learning that a lot of organizations make interesting decisions in Q4 to boost revenue. I imagine that Prime sign ups went up when Season 2 came out. I’d also imagine that there’s a significant percentage of that increase in viewership that represents new subscribers.
Am I the only one who thinks that 8 episodes is way to short? I mean, we are literally half way and only NOW is stuff getting interesting. Either what we get will have to be insanely good to justify the seasons' length or it's gonna have to be crunched up to the point where the pacing is non-existent. I mean, we are talking about squeezing in Omni-Man/Marks sub plot, Debbie's' sub plot, that one Martian dude/the guardians sub plot, Angstroms sub plot, Cecil's sub plot and Allen's sub plot all in 4 episodes.
It's likely that many things won't be resolved in just this seasons. (This show will probably go on for 6 to 8 seasons.) Some of these set ups and pay offs should last over multiple seasons and season 2 (all 4 episodes) have set up a ton of important stuff for the future.
This take is going to AGE SO POORLY as the story continues to play out. They've laid the foundation for SO MUCH in these first 4 episodes. I wish people wouldn't be so insistent on instant gratification and the need to be always able to anticipate what's coming

We waited 3 years for a second season(nothing wrong with that), which dropped in late November, with weekly episodes only for half of it to drop in Nov then the rest in Jan.......😢😢
I really admire this show for managing to be dark, without feelings edgy. That's very hard to accomplish, especially when it comes to superhero media. Just look at "The Boys" (the comics, the show is actually better).
The edginess in the boys is funny cause it feels like it's in spite of MCU, so it works.

One small correction about angstrom is he likely wasn’t corrupted one version that hated invincible. The angstrom with the actual powers states that in most universes Invincible joins Omni-Man in subjugating earth, so a majority of his doppelgängers probably weren’t fans of Invincible.

I know it's early to say this, but the show is already a superior version of the source material. Like the comic isn't bad by any means, but the show is expanding on characters/plot beats that didn't get much focus or making changes that enhance the story. Nolan redemption is already better then how the comic did it and i love how Debbie is at the forefront of the story.

I also love how the show handled Mark's reunion with Nolan. In the comics, he's begging for Nolan to come back home. But in the show, he's angry at him, and rightfully so. Yes, the way the comic handled Debbie was awful, she has much more agency and charisma here.

My theory is that this Mark is a hero (unlike most of the others) because he got his powers relatively late.
Most other Marks get their powers as kids/pre-teens, and so start their official training/indoctrination by Nolan while they're still very young and very impressionable.
This Mark is part of a small subset of Invincibles that get their powers very late - so late that Nolan starts beginning to doubt whether they'll get powers at all. They start their training as older, more established individuals, and so are much less susceptible to indoctrination.
Yeah the Mark in the universe shown in the intro of the season likely had different circumstances leading up to that. Robot still having his old organic body is proof of this.
Also Omni-Man would have less time to actually get accustomed to Earth and would have less empathy
@@LGreat16yeah, one impactful scene last season was Nolan remembering a little league baseball game Mark played in. Where, after Mark wins the game he feels very proud of his boy. I think a Nolan who's son is already developing his powers by that age would've been pushing him for more aggressive sports and his mind would be on training Mark to be a proper Viltrimite boy instead of the more quite life he led in our Mark's dimension.
That's why Arcane's release was so damn good. 3 weeks, 3 acts with 3 episodes, and they all tie in together. Arcane is pure perfection.

Arcane to me is an example of what I would call the “prestige cartoon”. A tv show with big budgets with movie-quality directing and animation. It’s too bad we’re not going to get a lot of cartoons like Arcane, because it’s very costly.
I think they wanted Season 2 out now because it came around the same time Omni-Man became a playable character in the new Mortal Kombat game. In that game, Omni-Man makes a few mentions of alternate dimensions and Angstrom Levy, which are things that nobody knew about in season 1. The watcher-only crowd might get alienated and confused if those lines dropped in the game and they didn't know what they meant. Either way, having the new season and Omni-Man DLC drop around the same time is gonna build as much hype as possible, similar to the way those memes did from the first season.

Not every episode has to have some kind of set up for a bigger overall plotline.
I feel like this mindset kinda detracts from just how enjoyable the characters are entirely on their own.
Eve, Debbie, Mark and the Guardians feel like standouts entirely separate from any big story.
They’re enjoyable entirely on their own. And it’s a good thing that we’re taking our time to flesh out these characters bit by bit. Even if it feels aimless, we have a big cast, which isn’t always a bad thing.
The comics go on for a while, so we have time to flesh out this big cast.
Exactly. Not everything in season one was relevant to the overall plot but even if this season doesn't have the same hook as season one, it has some amazing hooks coming up. People just need to be patient.

To me it felt like the big threat was the Viltrumites. Whilst it isn't actually always referenced, it's always in the back of my head in each episode which I felt was paid off well in episode 4
I think, as mentioned in the video, this season (and show overall) could really benefit from a higher number of shorter episodes. 16 episodes of half the length would have solved the weird release schedule, would give the show time to breathe and let the characters just exist in the world, without feeling like we're rushing through it. With the short, 8 episode season, it feels like they're cramming it all in now to fit in the major plot beats in the second half of the season. I hope the pacing finds more balance so the series doesn't drag to a 10+ season run.
Alternatively, a stronger throughline, like even just one scene per episode of Angstrom, would have made it feel more cohesive; to remind viewers that there is a direction that this is all going.
The reason why the show is going on break is because of the watch time. shows don't do good when it comes to months like December. so instead they give the animators a break and let us spend time with our families. A win-win in my opinion

Agreed that the first half of season 2 didn’t have the emotional impact of season 1, but to be fair, it’s hard to replicate the level of emotional investment and suspense that we had building towards Mark’s big confrontation with Nolan in season 1.
It feels like a lot of these first 4 episodes were mostly character development for Mark with sprinkles of foreshadowing regarding what’s going to happen in the next few episodes. It definitely feels like the show runners are keeping the major payoffs for the second half of the season, besides episode 4 which sets the stage for the events to come.
Without too many spoilers, the point you brought up about Mark needing to learn how to kill will definitely come into focus in the next four episodes and in the series going forward.

Here’s the thing after the first season I delved into the comics which are good they tend to have alot of filler as the show condenses events in a better pacing at times.
But invincible gets insane the further the story goes along there is so much being set up in these four episodes. I do hope it gets a complete series to go over all the arcs.
Cause this show will definitely be fire especially when Mark puts on his dress blues on. Which is a major shift plenty is coming and I’m excited to see it on the silver screen.
Haven’t had this same feeling since reading ahead in the Overlord series before the anime catches up.

Honestly the animation quality still holds up really well outside of the Allen's alien species backstory scene, feels like they really wanted to animate that part but didn't have enough time and resources
I won't lie to you I felt quite disappointed by the animation of the final fight in episode 4. In comparison to episode 1 fights it was pretty bad.
The animation looked unpolished, the choreography was meh, the fact that it implied that mark would have killed that way older, stronger and experienced viltrumite woman was a little weird. But again that's just how I felt when watching it. Hope they improve these things in later seasons.

Too much cutting away, mark suddenly being able to hold of a trained viltrumite, and the animation felt like a straight down grade compared to season 1.

I like the slow start to the new season, I’m more a fan of the pitstops on the journey rather than the destination so I really enjoy the more episodic feel as they build up their main threats and main heroes and really have the Greyson’s process the craziness of Season 1. I think they save that suspense and mystery element from Season 1 for Donald and his whole… thing because it’s hard to entice an audience like that more than once and it seems like whatever Cecil’s hiding will blow up later. The fact that I almost forgot to mention the guardians reminds me how forgettable they can be but I like that they also develop from the events of Season 1. I feel like Atom Eve is going down a depressing spiral but with her origin special I hope they’re building her up as the OP badass she could be. I couldn’t tell you why they are releasing it the way they are, if it’s to help the animators I’m down with that and I still appreciate that we got 4 hours of Invincible, that’s like 2 movies!

What I love about Invincible is what makes it different from The Boys.
The Boys says, “Superheroes suck.” It takes the bad parts of being Human (selfishness, depravity, violence etc), and cranks it to a million.
Invincible says, “Being a superhero sucks.” It acknowledges the difficulties of balancing superhero responsibilities with human urges and instinct, but still shows that the supers are still heroes deep down, and will always strive to do the right thing.
What makes Invincible different from The Boys makes Invincible such a great show, but The Boys is an amazing show in itself as well imo. Prior to Season 2 coming out, I thought The Boys was better, but now with Season 2 putting more focus on individual characters, it's hard to tell which one I like more.

The first two episodes felt like they were going into the multiverse direction, but then Omni Man shows up and the plot switches directions again. That’s ok though because I’m expecting it all to add up by the season finale. Episode 4 was insane and I can’t wait to see what’s in store!

As someone who's read the whole comics run, without going into spoilers I am very excited for what is to come, though I feel like they're rushing the show quite a bit, and I just hope when Conquest and Invincible wars come that they each get an episode or 2 to themselves.
In regards to Angstrom being set up, then just kinda dropped, the comics work the same way. In both mediums, plots start with something small, and we see a little bit of build up to keep us on our toes. Then, they come back in a REALLY big way.

The first half of the season has set up like 5 different arcs that will get resolved farther down. Reading the comics gives me more patience than most so just wait a bit longer. Once it gets going it's not gonna stop and I'm so fucking hyped for it

The greatest strength of this show is balancing cynicism and a genuine heart.
Robert kirkman who is the creator of invincible said that he wanted the break to happen so people can talk about episode 4. He also said in a interview that they already finished the voice acting and writing for season 3 and are currently animating it. So I think that they already finished the last 4 episodes and just want people to build up hype for the next episode.
The thing that frustrates me is that they really haven’t been building much hype throughout the season or building towards anything and the season is already halfway over

As someone who read the comics it's a constant struggle to bite my tongue when people complain about certain characters, having a decent idea of where their story will go.

This review is spot-on. I felt like Invincible S2 took a long time to build momentum because of its slow beginning, with me mostly following along week-to-week because my the rest of my family was doing it. But JUST as it started hitting its stride and I began to eagerly anticipate the next episode, the show stopped dead in its tracks thank to the hiatus.

I personally don't mind the wait, as long as it doesn't fall into the same pitfall Steven Universe did. If they can either have it all come out weekly or just take a little bit of time in-between to fine tune things, then I'm all for it. I'd rather a show take its time and be amazing than to have it arrive on time and feel it's half-baked. Also, I am loving season 2. While it doesn't have the hook that season 1 did, the looming threat of the Viltrumites and the amazing character development of Debbie, Mark and Eve is just great.

Mark is 100% capable of killing, even in the main timeline he's gotten close, really close. And he *can* kill, with how far and how casual he gets in the other timelines. Hell, Angstrom is a good example of where pacifism falls apart, too. Once he can't keep *his* experiences at the forefront, once he has the memories of all the other Angstroms who suffered under the reign of Mark and Nolan, once he *experiences* how bad things can get, he's just not a pacifist anymore.
And I think, Mark, having seen chicago butchered, having seen the bug planet exterminated, having seen the father he both hates and wants closure with taken by them to be executed, to rob him of that closure, is at the point where that potential for brutality will truly surface. What his father did was horrific, and it's *lighter* than what they'll do when they come.
Hell, maybe he'll talk to Angstrom (mid-fight) as the final push.

The invincible fans who say “wah wah animators should get back to work after 3 years 🤓” don’t deserve such a good show.
What’s really funny is because the season is finished, the creators specifically chose to release the second half later to not get bogged down during the holidays since they think stuff gets forgotten in that time.
So I think this season has been great but I’ll point out the fact that I think season 1 had something going for it that it doesn’t look like the show can replicate. I’m referring to the Hitchcock-esc suspense resulting from Omni Man’s reveal in the first episode. I think you hit the nail on the head with the section of the vid where you talked about the show’s “hook”. I also would like to point out the fact that I don’t like how they’ve continued with Amber’s character without acknowledging her toxic behavior in the first season. I gave season 1 a pass on Amber being toxic because it was so over the top(with things like Amber believing Mark should value being with her at the soup kitchen over literally saving lives.) that I figured it HAD to be intentional to help the story progress in the direction of Mark having a relationship with Eve, but now it seems as if the show is trying to redeem her character without acknowledging the issues by showing how happy she makes Mark, and I really hope I don’t need to say that “she makes you happy, so deal with the toxic behavior” is a bad way of thinking.
I’m enjoying the season, but it’s not the masterpiece that season 1 is.
And here I sit, someone that read the comics monthly for 15 years.
Show's overall and improvement, they're tweaking some of the parts that didn't work or have dated, doing better by some characters and being able to move some stuff around with hindsight for what's better for pacing and character growth. (Like they moved Robot cloning himself and hanging out with Monster Girl way, way forward. That was a looooong reveal originally.)
I just hope at some point they do some big crazy swerve that wasn't in the comics. Its great getting a faithful adaptation but a little surprise would be nice too. beyond them just upping the gore to ridiculous levels.
The hardest part about watching Invincible is keeping yourself to not seeing what happens in the comics.
Can you imagine being like, a MAPPA animator looking at these guys taking a break mid-season after animating something fairly simple in comparison, and then just crying in the bathroom?

High-key, Immortal x Dupli-kate makes me *retch.* Even if not strictly *illegal*, just feels so fucking wrong. I can't get a bead on Kate's actual age, wikis are no help and the fact that she plays like a teenager fresh out of high-school (like the rest of the young Guardians) means she's (at best) just under 20 dating a 2000+ year old. And, just... Holy fuck, I've never felt more disgust for the "Mayfly-December" romance trope than I have here.
Usually when anime and the like play the "actually 1000 years old" card, it's with a draconic or elvish loli who is exactly as mature as you're thinking, but skates by anyway. Immortal and Kate is the other side of that coin. It's the 2000+ year old man who *has definitely* got that age in experience and wisdom, but using it to sweep a *teenager* off her feet. All I can imagine them having to connect over is their shared status as characters who experience and revive (in a way) from death, so if that was the case, it's a millenia-old guy using the offer of *trauma counseling* as an excuse to _bang a teenager._
At least with the dragon loli shit, the other party is a definitively aged man who has reached full maturity. This feels like a sub-20 year old dating a 50-60 year old and it just getting swept under the rug because he kept his abs while she hasn't had real experiences outside of young experimentation.

24 20-minute episodes, accounting for intro and outro would be on average 16 minute episodes. That makes for a total run time about 8 hours with the extra bits and 6.4 hours of actual content. The average episode length of invincible is 50 minutes, and there is like 1 maybe 2 minutes of recap and credits. If we subtract that, our 4 episodes runs at 3.2 hours. A full 8 ep run would be 6.4 hours. That ofc is if it is only 8 episodes, the plotline we're getting with this might push it to 12, meaning the runtime would be about 9.6 hours.
TBH I was highly disappointed with the first half of the season. The last 10 min of episode 4 and the first 10min of episode 1 were the parts I found myself truly enjoying. While it hasn't taking a complete dive in quality, it has gone down hill. Part is the slow pace, but for me its more the poor treatment of mark by those closest to him. Marks mom has some good character reason as she is struggling not seeing Marks father in him. The others mock and belittle him, or blame him for the outcomes of what villains did regularly. Every relationship in Marks life is toxic, and worst yet, the only way he has to deal with it is to roll over or pretend laugh. Considering that in season 1 he was established and being invincible partly because he somehow survives all of his beatings, but also partly because he struggles through and continues to be the good guy and try to help innocents despite it all. The fact that seems to be lost in mark now is a large part of me losing interest. Every time he does something its because of somebody else in the show pushing him to, if not strait up guilting him to. It feels like Marks agency is completely gone, and I'm not here for it. Hope the 2nd part of season 2 steers back, I would hate for the entire thing to be a slow boring slog.
As far as I am aware, wasn't the season 2 hook obvious since the end of Season 1? How will the Viltramits respond now that Nolan has abandoned his post. Will they go directly to Earth or go find Nolan first. Well we got that answer in episode 4. So not sure how anyone missed that hook, felt obvious.
The hilarious fact is that the second season was already completely finished. It was not cut in half for animation purposes. People made upt the fact that the second season needed more time when it was literally already done and only given a break so that people would stay subscribed to amazon for a longer period of time than they would if the entire season was released. Invincible is how you do a gritty superhero show right. It's edgy but more so in a "realistic" scenario and they do know when to pull back. The love and idealism for superheroes is so strong here and that's what keeps bringing me back (kind of like how AOT is also a show about optimism vs. nihilism and proves optimistic goals are always better no matter how dire the situation is).
These nuances are what help these shows stand out and become exceptional unlike something that's edgy for the sake of being edgy *cough* *cough* The Boys *cough* *cough*
I hope they keep this up for as long as possible.
I also hope the animators get their due time and pay. Animation is very much not taken seriously in the industry and the fact that the guys in suits keep ignoring the wonders it provides never ceases to annoy me (not to mention the toxic fans who go after the animators for just doing their job).

Honestly, reading the comics has been both a blessing and a curse. The whole lure for season 1 was because I had no clue what, why or how shit was going on. I didn't know what a Viltrumite was outside of what the show told me, I didn't know who Nolan was outside of what he told us, I didn't know what was coming, I didn't have anything.
But after reading the comics and seeing this first half of season 2 I'm like "Oh, say they are setting up this arc and that arc." I know what's going to happen before it happens and that's left me feeling less like engaging than before, but after Episode 4 when things were finally gaining momentum it just... stops. I mean sure, I could just go read the comics, they left off right at a place that's easy to pick up from but they really messed up here.
Invincible is nice, because it feels more realistic in the way that people with powers act, while not going as far as The boys and saying everyone is an asshole

The thing is, the fact that there is a pause between the first and second half of Season 2 doesn't really bother me (an quite honestly, shouldn't bother most people). Animation is hard, the actors just went through a (very important and justified) strike, and probably another few reasons as to why the season has to be split. What brings me pause to think is the hope that the time to cook Season 3 hopefully won't be as long as the time it took to cook up Season 2, because that would actually be a series killer.

I’m learning that a lot of organizations make interesting decisions in Q4 to boost revenue. I imagine that Prime sign ups went up when Season 2 came out. I’d also imagine that there’s a significant percentage of that increase in viewership that represents new subscribers.
Am I the only one who thinks that 8 episodes is way to short? I mean, we are literally half way and only NOW is stuff getting interesting. Either what we get will have to be insanely good to justify the seasons' length or it's gonna have to be crunched up to the point where the pacing is non-existent. I mean, we are talking about squeezing in Omni-Man/Marks sub plot, Debbie's' sub plot, that one Martian dude/the guardians sub plot, Angstroms sub plot, Cecil's sub plot and Allen's sub plot all in 4 episodes.
It's likely that many things won't be resolved in just this seasons. (This show will probably go on for 6 to 8 seasons.) Some of these set ups and pay offs should last over multiple seasons and season 2 (all 4 episodes) have set up a ton of important stuff for the future.

This take is going to AGE SO POORLY as the story continues to play out. They've laid the foundation for SO MUCH in these first 4 episodes. I wish people wouldn't be so insistent on instant gratification and the need to be always able to anticipate what's coming

Cmon on man, I feel like instant gratification is a bit much, for me at least, it's quite frustrating having to tune into a show once a week...it just ruins the flow of it...plus it's only 8 episodes. We waited 3 years for a second season(nothing wrong with that), which dropped in late November, with weekly episodes only for half of it to drop in Nov then the rest in Jan.......😢😢
