  • Reebok is using 3D technology to break the mold. Bloomberg's Anne Mostue visited the Boston-based company's headquarters to see how it's using proprietary liquid material, software and robotics to draw shoes in three-dimensional layers.

I loved the old Reebok of the 1980's when they went world wide with their white leather shoe with toweling inside and little english flag. They were different and classy.

I just tried on a pair of them yesterday. They were man-made leather, and had memory foam foot beds. They felt nothing like the Reebok Classics I wore over 25 years ago. So I did not buy them.

Was a huge fan of Reebok back when I was a kid in the 1980s. Their shoes had an understated elegance vibe to them. I just feel now that they have lost their way, while it's good to innovate they should not underestimate the power of the retro vibe. Nike Puma et al innovate but also have invested in their retro lines. I think the thing that is hurting Reebok sales is its association with crossfit, all the other brands have quite rightly avoided that cult and associated with more mainstream sports

dont talk bullshits ,I mean there are so many different designs of reebok shoes now then never before for everyones taste there is something,I know taste is diferent with every person,so thats why they now have a lot more to choice for. I only dislike the new sign when Addidas bought them but any way I wear only Classic(mostly white or better when I find some unique color mix that was produced in small amount),now new "updated" Aztrek is here and also OG Pump as well(got them both and quality is still the premium Reebok) glad they have respect for the old customers and sneakers that marked Reebok era and culture.I know a lot of people that like Reebok and wear them everyday(wheter walking, riding car/bike,running,working, they are comfortable in every ascpect).
And I'm really glad they didnt changed the sign on the classic series(classic leather, classic nylon, both "deep" and "short-standard" and Rapide MU) and new "updated" Aztrek.I like how's things are now going on with this brand,I was afraid that the brand like Reebok dont pronounce bankrot, there was 2 years when I could find classic in black, white and biege ,here in my region.

Injection molding is better and more durable. Whenever the molten material is injected into the mold, the machine pushes it in very high pressure (5,000 to 18,000 psi) hence strengthening the bond and density of the product. Laying the liquid material like cake frosting does not guarantee a solid bond because it only settles on normal atmospheric pressure and gravity.

They're using some kind of thermosetting elastomer for this process. This isn't going to be much less durable than regular rubber, and certainly more durable than most injection molded thermoplastic polymers.

As someone born with bilateral severely clubbed feet, I think everyone with clubbed feet and everyone else needing orthopedic custom inserts and shoes (and all disabled, amputee, etc people) should have a 3D printer to be able to prototype ideas and print corrective shoes, sandals and inserts with almost zero cost. Do you know of a printer, material and design combo you could recommend for this (ideally with a grinder to recycle materials back into filament)? Thx
