5:18 To think that in this scene the actors involved are all no longer with us. R.I.P. Mel Blanc, Wayne Allwine, and Bob Hoskins
So weird looking at this and hearing you call Frozen "the snow queen" I remember watching this years back, I don't think anyone expected such a success.
9:17 AKA Frozen
Look at the date.
Maroon
Disney is to animation as Nintendo is to Videogames.
That analogy just made me think up the name, "Mario Mouse"!
I enjoyed the remake you promised years and even though its updated and has information, it still cant top the first video you ever made
I'M MARY POPPINS Y'ALL!
Please please please continue this! it would be amazing, I really enjoyed watching it! come on! I would be amazing
You know ElectricDragon505, You should the 15th Walt Disney Animation Lookback, Like Tangled,Winnie the Pooh, and Wreck it Ralph next month or something, please?
nice idea
+MrGabeanator i agree but he finished the Walt Disney animation look back
+bethany bingham true
you forgot to put the word do when you said you should
I didn't know that.
I'm surprised you did not add in the shorts Walt created for the space program. My parents actually have the orginal shorts, and where even placed in the theaters a few times. They were really cool shorts, and helped NASA create the designs for the Apollo.
All in all, I loved your documentary. All my life I grew up with disney, and I love everything about his work. I even visited his studios, and theme parks three times. I am a HUGE Disney fan, so you creating this made my day. :)
I wish there could be one more video in the series that will look over all the new movies until now :3
amazing documentry-thingie. i love all your reviews and lookbacks. so glad you do this type of thing. it's a real treat for someone like me who, as a child, would watch the entire disney VHS tape only to see the bonus behind-the-scenes material after the end credits. thanks for all that you do :)
this knowledge of disney is amazing thanks for making these amazing videos even though it's been like 7 years since this was made its still awesome to know about this stuff
Another honorable mention is "The Little Match Girl", it's very disney renaissance-ish and I loved it!!
I for one, like Who Framed Roger Rabbit better than Mary Poppins. First of all, there is plenty more animation in Roger Rabbit than in Mary Poppins. While the cartoon characters in Roger Rabbit get to transport into the real world, the cartoon world in Mary Poppins only lasts for a couple of back-to-back scenes, and then it is never seen again. This makes Mary Poppins's animation feel more lick a gimmick than a part of the story. Also, the detective story in Roger Rabbit gets interesting at times, and I love seeing all the classic cartoons together (especially in the end when Pinocchio arrives). I have a guess for why Mary Poppins became Walt Disney's crowning achievement, but to me, I just like Roger Rabbit better.
I think that if Mary Poppins was the best live action/animation hybrid film during Walt's days, Roger Rabbit was the best live action/animation hybrid film during Michael Eisner's days!
I know im randomly asking but does someone know a way to log back into an instagram account??
I was stupid forgot the login password. I love any tips you can offer me.
@Javier Kannon instablaster =)
@Walker Emilio I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and im in the hacking process atm.
Takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
This whole show was basically a sendback to my childhood and why I adore Disney so much! It's pretty clear that you have the same devotion for it, so keep rocking at it! Cannot wait to see more reviews and lookbacks like these!!
I miss Bob Hoskins.... RIP, you old sourpuss....
1942-2014
you did an amazing job putting this all together! I learned so much! And found some disney movies i was unaware of that I'm dying to check out! Thank you!
this was absolutely a wonderful series, thanks for sharing
In 2013, there will be a handrawn animated film "The Snow Queen" with Alan Menken. Man, this prediction was a little off.
Man, that ticks me off. Sure Frozen was a good movie, but c'mon! Why can't disney make both 2D and 3D. Eventually people will get tired of only seeing 3D movies, and 2D will make some sort of revival. Not anytime soon, but maybe in the next decade, perhaps.
My Top 10 Fave Disney Animated Feature Films are:
10. Atlantis: The Lost Empire
9. Lilo and Stitch
8. Tangled
7. Lion King
6. Jungle Book
5. Bambi
4.Pinocchio
3.Aladdin
2.Fantasia
1. Little Mermaid
Awesome series, I actually sat through all 13 videos and wasn't bored at all. Kudos.
My top 5
1. Beauty and the Beast
2. Dumbo
3. Aladdin
4. The Lion King
5. Snow White
Great job!! Watched all 14 parts, one of the best documentaries out there!
0:18 one of my favorite Disney characters, Herbie!
This is the best documentary on Disney I've ever seen!!
A very informative series; very detailed and well researched. The editing was great and made it more interesting to watch. It must have taken a long time and a lot of effort to make. I watched it all in one sitting; I loved it.
This isn't his top 10. This a top ten of the most critically received and successful disney films and the impact it left on the studio.
I hope that you do a continuation of the animation lookbacks so we can see/hear your facts/opinions about the movies that came out after this.
Specifically, oh man would I love to hear your take on how phenomenal Frozen is doing at the box office. It's nearing a billion and it's not even going to be released in Japan for about another month!
And they did a movie "Saving Mr. Banks" based off the movie.
The Snow Queen is now Frozen and has become a Broadway Musical. I don't know if they are still working on King Of The Elves or decided to not to through with it anymore.
Here are my top 5:
1. The Lion King
2. The Great Mouse Detective
3. Tarzan
4. Beauty and the Beast
5. Hercules
3.
I cannot blame the author for not liking the idea of a Disney movie, considering the fact that Disney leaves out a lot from books on which their movies are based. If anyone has read the original Mary Poppins book, you would know that there were several scenes that were left out - i.e. Jane and Micheal's siblings, the candy shoppe lady and the star scene where Mary and the candy shoppe owner glue cut-out stars to the sky while climbing a ladder leaning on nothing.
WHO'S WATCHING ALL OF THE VIDEOS IN 2016 BESIDES ME!?!?!?
I Have
That's me too.
I'm just now watching all the animation look backs, just got done with Studio Ghibli, Don Bluth, and now Disney.

The wonderful thing about Who Framed Roger Rabbit is that while one is watching it, for a brief time, they are trying to figure out how the people did it...and then after a while, you just say 'screw it' and go with the magic. Roger is real, Mickey and Bugs are real, Eddie Valiant is talking to and interacting with those toons, and it's just magic. Sheer, Timeless magic.
My top 5:
1. Aladdin
2. Wreck-It Ralph
3. Beauty and the Beast
4. Lilo and Stitch
5. Tangled

As I type this, it's 3 days after the 9th anniversary of the upload date for this vid. You concluded this series in 2010, & now we're at the other end of that decade. Disney has made other films (animated & live action) since the making of this series, but none of those could hold a candle to the films covered here.
Thank You Animat....You're my hero!
I love Disney so much. I hope it never stops making movies. EVER
The idea for Frozen started out so promising too.
I watched Who Framed Roger Rabbit and I have absolutely no desire in watching it again.
Hey Mat, are you gonna continue this series with all of the films that were released after Princess and the Frog? Those films have all been huge successes (except Winnie the Pooh (I don't even remember that being released in the UK)) and have definitely become the current Golden era for them

Epic, thxs u for Posting these, loved them
Despite his downfall and his hatred towards Sony Pictures Animation (I respect his opinion through.) looking back to the old videos, the quality of the videos has changed.
He’ve change too, he became nicer in recent years, but back then he was more serious in the older videos.
Since TH-cam has change, but I have a deep nostalgia for the old stuff, I decided to look back on his older videos he made in the past.
Edit: By the way, the upcoming films didn’t aged well, and King of the Elves didn’t happened.
I just find it funny how I just burst into laughter by the future that we already passed. Like Snow Queen. HAAAA! Animat didn't know what was going to happen to him on that very day. XD
My top five is
1: Peter Pan
2: Pinocchio
3; Mulan
4: Pocahontas
5: Dumbo
It sucks that King of the Elves is kind of in development hell right now... The concept art looks so cool!
Your documentary was supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
This may sound weird, but I keep obsessing with the fact that Who Framed Roger Rabbit came out right around the time I spawned into this world as one of the reasons why I happen to enjoy it myself!
Okay, News:
Snow Queen is back on track, and Robert Lopez is doing the music now, and it starts Kristen Bell and Idina Mendzel
Kin of the Elves is Officially dead, as Far as I know.
And, as everyone knows, Wreck-It Ralph is coming out this November.
Now you know. and knowing is half the battle.
Frozen didn't end up being hand drawn... But i know this was made a long time ago
It was previously announced as hand drawn.
My Top Ten:
1. The Lion King
2. Peter Pan
3. The Jungle Book
4. Alice in Wonderland
5. Bambi
6. Cinderella
7. Tarzan
8. Beauty and the Beast
9. Robin Hood
10. Mulan
I really love the lock backs and have seen them all but can you please update all of them as there were lots of movies released since then😊😊😊
Little did we knew that The snow queen will be changed into Frozen and become the most popular Disney film to date. ( which is really getting annoying)
+Scarlett Savage Because marketing wanted to make the movie more appealing to boys and men as well as girls and women, which is probably why The Princess & the Frog wasn't as good as past films, and what made Disney stop doing fairy tales until Tangled (also changed from Rapunzel for the same reasons).
Animat i❤ur lookbacks! Make morePLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!! My fav is the little mermaid ☺
Please do more parts , would like to see if you think disney are entering and second Renaissance :)
Not to mention that Feed the Birds from Mary Poppins was Walt's favorite song of all time. So much that they played it at his funeral.
the snow queen turned out to be Frozen
And it was computer animated
Oh yeah! I remember that!
(darn I wish I didn't lost that book)
i love the top 10 because number 1 is THE QUEEN OF DISNEY snow white and my favorite disney movie and the fairest of them all
0:01-0:20 What is that from???
Great job! :) I look forward to more lookbacks from you. :)
You should make more animation lookbacks for disney animation. Talking about Tangled and Wreck-it-Ralph would be great since those films were incredible.
Every Animation Lookback that you've made. #1 Walt Disney Animation Studios (2009). #2 DreamWorks Animation (2010). #3 Hanna Barbera (2010). #4 Don Bluth (2011 and 2012). #5 Pixar Animation Studios (2013). #6 The Best of Stop-Motion (2014). #7 Studio Ghibli (2015). #8 Looney Tunes (2016). #9 Cartoon Network (2017). #10 Ralph Bashki (2018). #11 The Thief & The Cobbler (2019). #12 Walt Disney Animation Studios Updated (2019 and 2020). #13 The Muppets (2022). I wonder what the next one after that will be.
7:53 What That Amazing Song in Background
Will someone tell me where that stitch on the Motorcycle came from PLEASE!!!!!!
this is a very well done documentary!
8.Bolt,The plot is very intresting eventhough I like other Disney movies better I like the characters and good animation despite somewhat distracting moments "cough" pigeons "cough"
7.Mulan, This has pretty good animation, great characters and wonderful story however they're is something that makes it feel, how do I put this distracting.
6.Wreck it Ralph, OMG I love this movie Fantastic animation, characters and story! NEED I SAY MORE!?
I CAN'T FIND A WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT DVD ANYWHERE IN STORES!!! they cost way to much on amazon and it is not on itunes or Netflix! I have to buy it with my own money and its my favorite movie. Anybody know where to get it?
It's actually a commercial. I can't remember what it was, but maybe it was for the disney parks or ABC or something like that.
it was lovely
I'm sure we all know by now that the movie that they've made for the end of 2013 is actually called Frozen. The movie is done in C.G.I. and Matterhorn. And the songs were written by Kristen Anderson Lopez and her husband Robert Lopez. And Rapunzel has been named Tangled and King of the Elves still hasn’t been released yet!
@swordofcoke I'm 24, so I'll be 25 right around the time Who Framed Roger Rabbit celebrates its 25th Anniversary!
Whoa thx 4 telling me about the snow queen film...that's the biggest fact I found out while watching this
the snow queen movie name has been change to Frozen in anyone was wondering
@ElectricDragon505 Like you said, Sherk 2, one. Sherk 3, zero.
This was made in 2010.. two years before Wreck it Ralph
Killer Elves? Didn't know that.
KING. OF. THE. ELVES.
Its actually unknown if Disney plan to even make "King of the Elves", there was nothing new that even supports its comeback.
5:37 really because I haven't seen the Disney logo from who framed Rodger rabbit on the title on DVD
Andrew Kuder how do you know all of the Disney eras. I've never even thought about studying that. But I did teach myself how to name all of the Disney animated classic's in the order of their releases. It took me forever. I think I just might study that when I get a chance to do it.
oh could you put more honorable mentions like:
-nightmare before chirstmas(1993)
-a goofy movie(1995)
-ducktales the movie:tottl(1990)
-the wild (2005)
Yeah
was that Walt Disney talking to
Julie Andrews back stage
Would it be safe to say that you'll be continuing this with the newer films?
And if so, I think you should wait until "Frozen" is out, as well as mention the actual grossing for "The Princess and the Frog" actually got.
I just noticed that Richard Williams might be like Don Bluth, also responsible for the Disney renaissance.
Why????
Because he was the animator director to "Who framed Roger Rabbit", an got Disney into the renaissance. But with what cost. Sadly he have been throwing away on his personal project "The Thief and the Cobbler", mostly after Disney did Aladdin.
But still I think he deserved the credit as well.
Also, you forgot the fact that Felix the Cat was also supposed to be in Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
i don't remember pete's dragons
@darklight436 Part 8 got removed because it got rejected from the TH-cam Partnership Program. They should have just said a simple no.
He has a review of it on blip.
the little mermaid was the movie to spark the Disney renisance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What about the Lion King??
you do a part 15 with all movie came after prince of the frog
I wouldn't be waiting that much, I mean, the first movie was AWESOME! but after all these years it'll be very difficult to make it as good as the one we all love. Let's just hope thet it will be as good as what he made for the BTTF sequels (wich are great).
My first Disney film was Cinderella
No it was the inspiration for Aladdin, and Richard Williams spent 30 years working on it, but his version was never truly released. It is a VERY sad story.
I saw the Mary Poppins Broadway play, it was awesome
