Thanks for actually watching a few episodes before reviewing. So many TH-camrs throw up a video "review" but don't actually put the disc into a player, which teaches me nothing about the transfer or content on the disc.
My opinion if you were born between Roughly 1964 to 1972, then you were one of the lucky ones who lives in a world where you could enjoy both the syndicated shows like The Flintstones and The Jetsons and so forth but also see all of the new Saturday morning stuff as well such as Scooby-Doo and the Super Friends. Hanna-Barbera was a huge part of my growing up along with Sid and Marty Krofft.
Yes, I was born in 1966, we had the best of both worlds growing up in the 70s, with the reruns of 1960s Hanna Barbera shows, plus seeing Scooby Doo and Superfriends and more when they were first run.
I didn't even realize the actually made new Jetsons episodes in the 80s. I assumed they were all from the 60s. For the right price I'll pick this up, the restoration is very nice. I enjoyed the show more than the Flintstones as it was on before I left for school in the morning and the Flintstones were only on at lunch, and the kids who went home at lunch we able to watch them. I think having the Jetson movie added to their 80s kid appeal too!
Lucky guys. There were no Wendy's up here when the film was released. But my friend had Denny's round collector cards of the movie from his trip to Florida that for some reason were always in his family van.
While I wish this set included the 80s episodes as well I'm still happy that it was released on bluray and maybe they'll release those episodes on it in the future.
I think I watched everything Hanna-Barbera had on tv. Saturday Morning cartoons were just the best. Scooby Doo, Flinstones, Jetsons, Shirt Tales and more... Love the video.
I remember fondly watching these in syndication after school growing up. Yesterday I started watching my copy of the Blu-Ray set which came last week - and besides the color vibrancy there’s some great detail, texture, and brushwork in the backgrounds that was never apparent before. The original sponsor commercials are a fun new thing to see too. I’m so glad to have these in HD!
The negatives used 35mm film. The standard for 35mm is supposed to be 4K, nor 2K. 2K is for 16mm. As for the comments about colors, the response to color is subject to the transfer/scanning technology and it's sensitivity to color. This can distort color. I do have some issues about the skin tones. They are too magenta. That was not part of the original color models for these characters. They were more "peachy," or Tan #s 2-5. But thanks for your enthusiasm.
Your the only guy I trust I go to you on your reviews. Thank you for the truth. My collection has bennifited because of your honesty and channel. Sincere thank you for your channel
Wow, Heath, this video is on the money and so well done! I picked up the Johnny Quest Blu-ray a few weeks ago and it looks amazing not only in the vibrant colors but the audio/music too. Maybe it's just me but I do notice that the audio/music is so much more enhanced than when I remember watching on TV way back when. It's great that these releases are being offered at a very affordable price too.

Chicken is my favorite.
Thanks for the great review. I was wondering about picture quality (I was unhappy with my 2004 DVD edition) and this gives me good reason to pull the trigger on the Bu-Ray.
@@CerealAtMidnight Does the picture quality look as good as the Season 2 and Season 3 episodes of _The Jetsons_ (on DVD), as though they were animated with digital ink-and-paint and shot onto digital video like the Season 2 and Season 3 episodes were there???
I don't know, Steven. I don't have seasons 2 or 3 on DVD, but I would hesitate to draw comparisons between those, since they were animated two decades later. We're comparing the new HD transfers to the 15 year old DVD era transfers of these 1962-1963 episodes.
I wish I could afford to get every Hannah Barbera series on Blu-ray, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Yogi Bear and Friends, Space Ghost, The Herculoids , The Great Grape Ape, OMG Hannah Barbera just had a whole universe of cartoon shows that every kid could watch, from super heros to Super Spies like Johnny Quest or just plain wacky stuff like Scooby Doo, Speed Buggy and Jabberjaw, I would have to get them on Blu-ray because cartoon network and boomerang don't show them anymore.
George, Jane, Judy and Elroy never looked better! Same for Astro, Rosie, Spacely, Uniblab and Cogswell. You can even see the flaws, which are part of the original production, such as faded ink lines, grains in film and so on. Flintstones, Top Cat, Huck & Yogi et al will hopefully be next.
I would wanna have a director's cut edition for the first 24 episodes of The Jetsons with trailers, sponsors, Orbitty title cards, and the George on the treadmill credits shown at the same time during each episode! What do you think?
I have the original first season digipack DVD set from 2004, and it seems this release indeed does not have the title cards which were inserted into the episodes as they were re running in syndication back during the mid/late '80s and onward which show alien pet Orbitty from the revival seasons as those were being concurrently broadcast at the same time. That would appear to be the case as WBHV used the syndicated versions for the original '04 set and Diamond Collection reissue, and thus that is why those appeared on them. The new BD set looks to be recreating how the series first aired as there indeed were no title cards at all back during it's prime time run. The sponsor bits after the intro sound cool, as the source used here appear to be the OG broadcast prints as opposed to the aforementioned syndicated prints used on the DVD's. Also on that note, i haven't seen all that much of the '80s revival run beside a scattered few episodes on CN as a little kid as well as the two TV specials Rockin' with Judy Jetson and Jetsons Meet the Flintstones plus of course the 1990 film, and they were all decent but the original '60s run is definitely the best of them and my favorite of the bunch.
This was a staple of American syndicated television for decades. You guys, not having a syndication market, might not have quite the same nostalgic reaction that we do State-side, but it would be interesting to see how you react to it.
I’m so happy they’re releasing these Hanna-Barbera cartoons on Blu-ray! The New Scooby-Doo Movies was amazing (Scooby-Doo is my all time favorite show/cartoon, as I have every movie and episode released on home media) then Scooby-Doo Where Are You on Blu-ray, Jonny Quest, and now The Jetsons! My jetsons copy is being delivered today, super excited to watch them on Blu-ray! Really hoping we can get The Flintstones on Blu-ray sometime soon. Great video, really informative, and I agree about the grain, that’s how it’s supposed to be presented.
I saw very little of The Jetsons when it ran in the UK, but it sounds a fun show. On the topic of laugh tracks, when I got the DVD's of 'Mash' I found that it was possible to turn off the laugh track and enjoy all seasons without the laugh prompt.
This is really great information, both about the UK run of The Jetsons and that MASH had the option to turn off the laugh track. Do you remember any specifics about when the Jetsons aired and on which channel it was shown?
@@CerealAtMidnight Sorry, I don't remember I'd guess it aired in the mid to late sixties and would have been shown on the BBC as were all other Hanna-Barbera shows like The Flintstones. Sorry, I can't be of more help, too much life gone under this bridge.
Your comparison reminds me of the difference between good tv broadcasts of the Batman show and the stunning bluray transfers (the missus and I are floored every time we watch that set). I was on the fence with this The Jestsons set but I may have to pick it up. Oddly, I forgot about the laugh track.
The only Hanna Barbera shows I would be interested in owning on Blu-ray would be Swat Kats, Pirates of Dark Water and maybe the late '90's Jonny Quest series that had Quinton Flynn, but I doubt any of them would get a retail release.
My local Dirt Cheap store recently got a load of these sets and sold them for $5.00 unopened needless to say I bought me a copy, they were able to do the MASH DVD’s were you can turn the laugh track on and off so they probably do that for Jetsons but there are probably financial cost to prophets reasons why they didn’t
Definitely going to have to add this to my to-get list NOW. There's a minor issue with the end credits I heard about that basically got cut as well, apparently when it originally aired on ABC they actually said it was an ABC-TV presentation in the end credits and that unfortunately got lopped off. BUT the fact that it looks THAT good even with the representation you tried to convey makes me want to get this stuff.

That's great, so are the end credits different for each episode? iInoticed on the original dvd set, they seemed to have the same end credits for all the episodes. Which meant that you never saw for example Jean Venderpyl credited. She voiced Rosie and other female characters. Btw, I love the way Hanna Barbera characters were drawn around this early era, with Huckleberry Hound, Yogi Bear, The Flintstones, Top Cat, The Jetsons etc...

@ Steven Villman I do not agree with you at all. People deserve the freedom to choose what works for them. And you're suggesting piracy on a video where we've been given exactly what you want, which is a classic show in HD on Blu-ray. Warner Archive puts an absolute mountain of classic cartoons on DVD so we don't have to restort to illegal methods to watch them. I was reading on Wikipedia that the 1980's seasons were able to get all the original voice actors from 1962, and each episode cost $300,000 to make ... wow. I assume they animated it here in The States, and not Korea. I'm not a fan of the 80's episodes. They lack a certain something. Probably just my own fussiness there. That original theme tune by Hoyt Curtin, that is something else. The band is on fire, and he uses so many fun motifs (like chopsticks, for example, and the oompah-pah melody after "His boy, Elroy"). When I was little I did not appreciate it. Funny that Warner would release this BD before The Flintstones, but what do I know. I just hope the blu ray colors here aren't _too_ vivid; sometimes they can appear garish and look as if the intensity has been turned up too much.
The colors aren't too garish, it just looks very true to how it was originally created. The prints so many of us watched for so long had become dingy and kind of brown, but these restorations bring the show back to life. It seems to have blown just about everyone away who has picked this up. Highly recommended!
@@CerealAtMidnight Well, i got it as a birthday present; opened it early. I watched it and saw the hi-def restorations and the shorts were pretty nice, especially the ones that were released from 1947 to 1948.
I hope so! I think things like The Jetsons and Johnny Quest may have been tests to see if the Blu-ray market would support older animation releases. However, the Blu release of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You and The New Scooby-Doo Movies from Warner Brothers proper (not Warner Archive) points to a very real possibility that we may see Fred and Barney on Blu-ray sooner, rather than later. Classic animation on Blu-ray has taken off like lightning, especially since 2019. If we keep supporting these releases and send that message to the studios (like Warner) that we will buy classic cartoons, it seems like they’ll keep releasing the best of the best on Blu.
That would be great. The show is owned by Classic Media, which I believe is now a subsidiary of Universal. With all the current Godzilla stuff going on, you'd think they'd jump on it.
Forgive me if I'm way off base with this question, but couldn't you order it from the US Amazon and just pay a bit more for shipping? Amazon ships everywhere, I believe.
@@CerealAtMidnight That's actually a good idea! I haven't purchased from the US Amazon before, only Amazon.ca. I'm sure even with the currency conversion it would be cheaper to buy from amazon.com!
I get a lot of info from Blu-ray.com, from the social media accounts of the distributors themselves, and through mailing lists of those companies. Blu-ray.com is probably the best resource for disc news, dates, and specs.
Yep, those other episodes were made DECADES later, and they look and sound like it. This is the complete original Jetsons as it existed until the 1980s.
Amazon did not seem to get their stock, but lots of other retailers have it right now, if you feel like canceling your existing order and getting it from someone else. Best Buy and Deep Discount have it for 25 and Bullmoose has it for 24. I don’t know what’s up with Amazon’s stock, but they are not reliable with Warner Archive titles for some reason.
@@CerealAtMidnight Okay... but what about people in Canada??? (What is unlike Amazon.com, BestBuy.com, Bullmoose.com, etc. won't ship to Canada, and us Canadians don't like paying much higher prices than you Americans down there!)
Then if you want it, wait for Amazon's stock to resupply, since Amazon ships anywhere. It's currently 33 dollars Canadian from U.S. Amazon. I did't make this set, but I am trying to help offer some suggestions as far as to how to get it.
i have bought from this seller a lot and trust them www.ebay.co.uk/itm/THE-JETSONS-COMPLETE-ORIGINAL-SERIES-BLU-RAY-Region-free/163816509646?hash=item26243990ce:g:IZwAAOSwKThdcBaY
Studios need to realize that the older the show the more price effects the sale. This here is a very reasonable price. If they could do 20 and toss it in target and walmarts it would do well I think.
The way you tell the difference between the 60s Jetsons and the 80s Jetsons is that the 80s ones had that springy type character. Having grown up in the 70s I only ever saw the original series. From what little I've seen of the 80s version, I haven't liked.
Also, the picture quality was *_vastly_* superior on most of the 1980's episodes (all but 6 of Season 2 and all episodes of Season 3); they were (mostly) animated with digital ink-and-paint and then shot onto digital video like modern 2D animation is today, so no film grain was present there!
Thats kinda the problem with the jetsons. The characters have like 2 traits and its too vaninla. Fred is funny because he is mischvious but has a good heart George is just lazy and he lets his annoying boss walk all over him.
I wish Warner Bros. would quit being cheap and stop the DVD-R process of recording TV shows. I'll never understand that. Family Matters for example, looks terrible half way into the series because of that. Maybe I'm just too picky.
@@CerealAtMidnight I have not bought either of these Blu-Ray sets for the record. But DVDs I have such as Family Matters, that's what I'm suggesting yes. I'm happy if it looks amazing on Blu-Ray. I just wish recordable media wasn't a thing.
DVD-r media can be very finnicky as far as what devices it will play on, and I'm not a fan. For what it's worth, all Warner Archive Blu-rays are pressed, not burned. They aren't recordable media, they're factory pressed.
@@CerealAtMidnight Well that's great to hear. The bad quality of seasons 5-9 of Family Matters just left a bad taste in my mouth so to speak. I get nervous about other shows. Hopefully they put the 80's episodes of Jetsons on Blu-Ray now.

And you're suggesting piracy on a video where we've been given exactly what you want, which is a classic show in HD on Blu-ray. Warner Archive puts an absolute mountain of classic cartoons on DVD so we don't have to restort to illegal methods to watch them. If you want even more of this content, I would suggest you support these releases financially instead of stealing them.
Whats up heath? Heads up my friend, you may want to check all your dollar trees when you get a chance. This week right here is the one for the $1 dvds and blurays. Found 34 dvds and blurays (3), and found 10 more dvds at all my goodwills. Get on it my friend. Looking forward to seeing what you found!
I've hit two stores and grabbed a few things. Glad you've scored big! Thanks!
I think I didn't hear the laugh track on the latinamerica spanish version.🤔 Anyway, I love them❣️
as i understand this series dont have already opening credits episode "names", why? maybe its becourse this was originally aired without that opening titles with "names" of episodes
Now if we could get a complete Super Friends Blu-Ray box set from Warner’s all would be right for the world! 🌏
I'd buy them. Some of my Super Friends DVDs are double sided and won't play.
@@CerealAtMidnight I *_really_* wish that _The Smurfs_ got a complete series DVD/Blu-ray *_ENGLISH LANGUAGE_* release (or at least a DVD/Blu-ray release for *_every_* season and not just the first couple of seasons!) for Region 1/Region A (North America)!!! It's such a figurative crime that _The Smurfs_ hasn't got DVD/Blu-ray season set releases past Season 2 for Region 1/Region A in English - *_figurative Hell, even Snorks got all seasons released onto DVD for Region 1 in English, so why not for The Smurfs [both cartoon shows were done by the same creators: Papuyo (as well as Hanna-Barbera)]?!?!?!?!?!_* 😑😑😑😑😑
Still waiting for 90s H-B shows like Addams Family and Fish Police on DVD...
Addams Family is in licensing rights hell because of the Addams estate.
@@CerealAtMidnight Thanks!
Loved your review of this Blu-ray release.
By the way, have you covered the Tom and Jerry: Golden Collection Vol. 1 Blu-ray?
I haven't. Reminds me I need to add that title to my list, as I don't have it!
@@CerealAtMidnight
Well, i got it as a birthday present; opened it early.
I watched it and saw the hi-def restorations and the shorts were pretty nice, especially the ones that were released from 1947 to 1948.
Hopefully we can get a Josie and the pussycats and in outer space on bluray
We did! amzn.to/3jKOn2Z
Do you think we will see a Flintstones complete series bluray release now?
I hope one day we could get a complete series of hanna barbera godzilla the animated series on blu ray one day it's well over due
That would be great. The show is owned by Classic Media, which I believe is now a subsidiary of Universal. With all the current Godzilla stuff going on, you'd think they'd jump on it.
Theres a episode of bewitched without the audience or laugh track it felt so wrong lol
Does the diamond edition dvd look any better than the 2004 dvd ?
I only have the diamond version, so I can't say. Maybe someone else can.
@@CerealAtMidnight that be cool
I would absolutely love this, but in Canada on amazon it's over $60.00 :( I have a hard time justifying that price.
Before shipping, the current conversion works out to about 33 dollars Canadian. Not sure how much shipping would be.
@@CerealAtMidnight Thank you! You always go above and beyond for your subscribers. Much love!
Where do you get your info on dvd releases?? Tryna find a good site
I get a lot of info from Blu-ray.com, from the social media accounts of the distributors themselves, and through mailing lists of those companies. Blu-ray.com is probably the best resource for disc news, dates, and specs.
So this just has the first 24 and not all 57
Yep, those other episodes were made DECADES later, and they look and sound like it. This is the complete original Jetsons as it existed until the 1980s.
I have on preoder then they sold out sp have to wait 2 + months
Do you know if this blu ray is region free or region A locked?
i have bought from this seller a lot and trust them www.ebay.co.uk/itm/THE-JETSONS-COMPLETE-ORIGINAL-SERIES-BLU-RAY-Region-free/163816509646?hash=item26243990ce:g:IZwAAOSwKThdcBaY
@Nero Bat I have heard that all Warner Archive titles are region free, but I can't verify that. This is the common understanding, though.
Studios need to realize that the older the show the more price effects the sale. This here is a very reasonable price. If they could do 20 and toss it in target and walmarts it would do well I think.
Land of the Lost?
Anyone remember?
The way you tell the difference between the 60s Jetsons and the 80s Jetsons is that the 80s ones had that springy type character. Having grown up in the 70s I only ever saw the original series. From what little I've seen of the 80s version, I haven't liked.
Also, the picture quality was *_vastly_* superior on most of the 1980's episodes (all but 6 of Season 2 and all episodes of Season 3); they were (mostly) animated with digital ink-and-paint and then shot onto digital video like modern 2D animation is today, so no film grain was present there!
I prefer the 60s episodes over the 80s episodes
👽👾🚀👽👾🚀👽👾🚀👽👾🚀👽👾🚀👽👾🚀
The laugh track is bad when things aren't funny.
You're suggesting that the video quality looks worse because it's recordable media and not pressed?
@@CerealAtMidnight I have not bought either of these Blu-Ray sets for the record. But DVDs I have such as Family Matters, that's what I'm suggesting yes. I'm happy if it looks amazing on Blu-Ray. I just wish recordable media wasn't a thing.
@@CerealAtMidnight I just have bad luck with recordable media i guess.
