    All TV programs from this era had grand themes - you never forget them.

    I worked with Bud Tingwell once, on one of his last jobs. He was as genuine and avuncular as you'd imagine.
    Look at Don Barker aka Det Sgt Harry White. He looks about 40-45 in this show, but he was in his late 20's.

      Im a bit shocked to hear that. He does indeed look like he’s in his mid 40s

      Don was born in March, 1940..early 30's during his stint in HOMICIDE..but came across as being much older..

    The intro I remember more was the detectives driving to Russell St (filmed from the drivers perspective), then getting out of the car (incl door slams) and running up the steps. It would be interesting to see it again as I grew up interstate so didn't recognise the landmarks.

      Russell Street HQ of Victoria Police. It was car bombed in the 1980's. I was within the blast zone when it happened. Damn scarey.

    Homicide was distributed to the major TV stations on Videotape, as the master of the program was produced on Videotape at HSV-7, though of course the outside scenes were shot on film, as were the open credits and background vision to the end credits.
    Since, in the early days, many of the regional stations had limited or no VTR machines, 16mm kine film recordings were made from the videotape masters for regional distribution.
    It's easy to tell whether a copy of Homicide program you're looking at originated from a VT master or Kine copy. If the INTERIOR scenes have film grain and are scratchy, it's from a Kine copy.

      That's only the case up to about 1971, after which all episodes were produced on colour 16mm.

    A couple of years ago they showed this, division 4 and Matlock police in the wee small hours then they decided to stop them all and offer dvd collections of selected episodes for ridiculous prices. Greed wins again!

    This is interesting because this opening was made for colour episodes (c.1973). Why a monochrome print should have been made is a bit of a mystery.

    • @Charles_Kos_Tutor
      @Charles_Kos_Tutor 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe it's recorded off black and white tv duh

    • @peteb1206
      @peteb1206 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's obviously not recorded off TV. There is a piece of lead out film which indicates an inside job. My guess is monochrome prints may have been produced for the regionals. Although this opening was from about 1973, colour television didn't enter testing phase until October 1974. No point sending colour prints around when black and white would have been so much cheaper.

    How many simultaneous homicide cases does this town need to solve, that it needs 4 radio operators working at once? Sounds like a dangerous place.

    • @FutureCanadaBlue
      @FutureCanadaBlue 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The radio operators here would actually be controlling marked patrol cars with uniformed officers, each one handling a different radio channel in a different area of the state of Victoria. There was actually probably closer to ten or fifteen operators on duty at a time.
