I like what I've seen from Merrill, but I'm taking Chourio long term. Skenes is fantastic...but so was Mark Prior! I'll start collecting him when he's about 30 years old, if he's still around.
Good to hear! You’re not the only one saying I got those two Jacksons reversed! Thanks for your input, Brent, you rock! I gotta have you on for another interview - but one that I turn into a podcast, too. What do you think about an interview based on rookie cards from the ‘60s, like the whole decade, specifically?
I loooooved Mark Prior, btw. Kerry Wood and Prior were so fun to watch. My very first article that made the home page featured spot of CBSSports.com was one I did on Prior coming back from injury, and how he was always lights-out!
@DavidGonos Both were phenomenal pitchers....imagine what the Cubs could have been had injuries not slowed both their careers down! I'm always happy to join for an interview, just let me know the time and place!
Great list, I still love that you are the only one who gives us a top 11, something special about that. I hope we all find many of these players in our boxes come October.
Boy what a nice looking list! As you mentioned, along with all the awesome rookie debuts, I am really excited about this year’s update! Thusly, I will probably pick up more than I usually do, and possibly even stash a little for a while. Great and intriguing stat about the current top 100 players. Awesome stuff, can’t wait, thanks David!
Couple addendums as I listened to the end of the video, will probably be strictly retail for me, as is with almost everything I pick up. I like your list. I might be tempted to put Chourio at 1. Thanks!
@@DavidGonos oh for sure, retail pretty much all the way. Part of it is how prohibitively expensive hobby has become, but part of it, I must admit, is the chase. It’s a lot of striking out, but nothing beats rolling up on a restock at the card section and finding exactly what you’re looking for!
Game Changer with the “Top 11”! That’s like the guy on The Price is Right who bids $1 higher lol. I’m picking up the hangers, blasters and fat packs. If I see the the “bigger” boxes, I might pick it up, but won’t be going out of my way to purchase them. Thanks for the video!
Thank you so much for your list of rookie card for each year on your website.i use to collect all the rookies when Becket did the yearly rookie rolladex. I was so upset when they stopped doing this. Nowi have a list to follow I have a lot of years to make up
Oh man, that’s awesome to hear! Thank you! I am very much trying to help collectors (and myself) keep track of the best rookie cards from each year. Thank you again for watching and commenting!
Awesome video and Top 11 Rookie cards Mr David Gonos. Have a great Monday to you and a great rest of the week Mr David Gonos and ✌️ to you. I going to buy a Hobby Box.
No, not just because it’s very unlikely we’ll see a player from this class reach Trout’s status, but also because there are way more base cards being produced now compared to 2011.
Hello I'm confused when you use the term true rookie cards in this series set Meaning if I get someone's rookie card from series 1 or series 2 and if I get a rookie card in Topps update this rookie card from Topps update will be their main rookie card you're saying? I also always thought that they're Bowman rookie card was their so-called true rookie card.
Good question - for the most part, a manufacturer’s first flagship product’s base card for a rookie is considered their true rookie card. Topps Series 1, 2 and Update for baseball, and Panini Prizm for basketball and football. In this case that you’re asking about, the base rookie card for Series 1 and 2, not an SP or an insert, would be their true rookie card, as opposed to their card in Update. Which player(s) are you referring to?
Great list! Time will tell but if skenes can be healthly he may change the pitcher narrative in the hobby. With 2 pirates pitchers in this you hope they go get some bats this off season. This is just a loaded set, and again im weird i think but i dont think players should have rookies in any set before flagship rookie, to me it kinda devalues the flagship but topps need to make money.
@@DavidGonos im okay if they come out in series 1,2 or 3 but like we got skenes in 3 sets before his flagship one and that idk takes some luster off idk
Nice! What did you end up buying! I just got a hobby box and blaster bundle. Couldn’t pull the trigger on that jumbo, but I’m probably going to wish I had!

I can’t find the checklist but if Spencer Schwellenbach is in there, I’d definitely put him on this list. He looks like a future ace
List is on my website - davidgonos.com/best-2024-topps-update-rookie-cards/
I don’t see him on there tho.
Great video! Tons of information, this is extremely helpful

Hahaha I’m not really sure why I go top 11, it just seems right. Haha
I want a good rookie parallel this time!

Thanks, Scott! Love hearing from you. It’s crazy - this year’s Topps Update is leaps and bounds ahead of last year’s Topps Update! That was garbage.
I love that you are like me - usually only getting retail.

Good morning. So would you say that these rookies have the same opportunity for growth as say a Mike Trout Topps update rookie?
No, not just because it’s very unlikely we’ll see a player from this class reach Trout’s status, but also because there are way more base cards being produced now compared to 2011.

Did you do a list with the top 100 right now topps RC yet?

Yeah, I hear what you’re saying. Jam all the RCs into Series 1 & 2, then just have Rookie Debuts in Update, maybe one SP RC a year.
@@DavidGonos im okay if they come out in series 1,2 or 3 but like we got skenes in 3 sets before his flagship one and that idk takes some luster off idk
Jared Jones has a SP RC in Topps Chrome Series 2.
Sweet! Different from flagship, but very cool!
Don’t forget Skenes can hit. It’s possible the pirates try to DH him next year!
Oh wow, that would be interesting!
You resemble Mr, Mint.
Hahaha that’s the first time I’ve heard that, but I can see it

No schwellenbach?
Nope, looks like he wasn’t called up early enough. Hopefully, he’ll be in 2025 Topps Series 1!
