I appreciate how you like to save/recycle things. With papers you make fun crafts that turn out amazing. Papers may be small but with imagination they could be a whole new world to explore.
When my dad was in his 70's and 80's back in 1970 and 1980, he made rolled paper picture frames. He made a huge doll house which I still have. Also made a couple of log cabins, a ferris wheel and other things of interest. We had never seen any crafts like this before. He also made his own "tools" to roll the paper up.
It's so nice to have somebody actually talk us through this procedure. A lot of the other videos are just music and showing people's hands and it's nice to have some sort of human behind it. Thank you
Japanese have been making pots woven with rice paper and then varnishing them to make them water tight ..there are antique pots made with this technique that are hundreds of years old and still water tight as if they were used yesterday...we have such an abundance of paper and cardboard ..I always love to see how innovative and creative people are especially people in the third world who have a very developed since of learning to work with the resources they have it inspires me as well !Great video!I have subscribed !
I enjoyed your paper crafting tips, but even more, your clever chatter and easy manner. You had me laughing when I really needed a good laugh. Thank you Shannon.
Shannon-some people just have to criticize others. Especially when they aren't as talented as you. I enjoyed your video and found it very informative. Thank You, Linda
Absolutely beautiful Shannon - adored the rectangle basket with the round coils and beads threaded through the middle - wld love to see a video on how you made it - tell the woman who had bleeding ears to go get a glass of wine and sit on a deck and don't watch - you keep doing what u do u r fantastic at it - love and hugs Rhonda Shields from Australia - I watch yr videos all the time but only discovered this one today and omg the paper beads - died and gone to heaven thank you xxx
A lady after my own heart! It's great that you save things~"I know I'll find a use for this"~ my whole family does the same. I truly enjoyed your sense of humour ~ a vital survival trait that makes life SO enjoyable. I look forward to many more videos. Thank you! !!
I'm now in my 60's but when I was in the second grade, we cut and rolled newspaper comics around small dowels, which the teacher then dipped in clear gloss. After gloss dried, we strung "beads" to make necklaces. I had mine until 3 years when I cut beads off of string and used them to make my best friend eyeglass holder to wear around her neck. She still uses it.
Super cool. When I was locked up, my cellie made a box for his art pencils using a similar technique. He used instant coffee to stain the tubes of paper so they looked like bamboo, and soap was the glue that held it together. Thanks for your video. Pity that we couldn't get TH-cam in the pen. We would've watched your stuff all day! ;^)
you probably dont care at all but does anyone know of a tool to get back into an instagram account? I stupidly forgot my login password. I would love any assistance you can offer me.
@Sergio Westin thanks so much for your reply. I found the site through google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I have just spent the most pleasant twenty-two minutes ever on You Tube. Thank you very much Shannon for sharing your skill and observations. I can't wait to get started. Respect from the UK.
you are saving the caps because, you can use soda can tabs and paper or cloth to color them for other art projects similar to the bottle cap basket you have. you can also try drawing a picture on them and heating them in your oven like the plastic togo box art thingies. So many wonderful uses for your plastic caps.
...Hey, Shannon!...I found a new bead""" configuration! Using a small skewer, & 1/2 page magazine, make the small disks,& then cup them out like your Madonna cones. (They look like little "Devo" hats)...Then mod podge the insides. Then glue 2 together, & now you have a nice big bead....I am also addicted to rolling straws...very relaxing...
Hi Shannon Green - Thank you for the instructions for rolled paper for projects. I not only enjoyed watching this blog but I got a lot of laughs from your comments, and requests, especially when you asked to be told you why you have the bottle caps. I am certain you will come up with useful project, of course, when you do, please remember to share. It really is crafty to recycle products that accumulate - often times we're asked to recylcle something until the need is met, but when that happens some crafty person uses brilliance and creates useful uses, such as what you have done. Once again, I am glad I happened upon your "TH-cam."
What a great video! I love your creativity and appreciate you sharing with us. Your enthusiasm is fantastic. And please, if you can, ignore the silly dorks who post unkind words. You are awesome, your art is wonderful, and SO many people appreciate the video. Thank you!
What fun it was to watch this video! Like listening to a friend explain her crafting adventures. Made some tubes myself and watched tons of other videos. Now I'm having a hard time choosing a project to do. Thank you!!
Thank you for sharing, I have a ton of magazines saved & am going to attempt a basket & you saved me some aggravation on cutting them half. I love your circles basket with the beads it's so beautiful! Very inspiring! thanks again:)
I very much enjoyed your video, and the fact that you enlarged on the details that I found lacking in other tutorials I've watched. No matter what that other stinker commented, yours was like sitting at the kitchen table with an old friend and learning how to create the tubes properly, and with a bit of humor added as a bonus. --Mrs Reed
This is the best Paper tube video I have seen yet....You didn't RUSH! The person with the bleeding is is a scamp. Complain complain complain. They just like hearing them selves talk. Than you for an informative video that is easy to under stand and consider so many possibilities.
I have to say, I enjoyed your video. You sound soo much like me when it comes to saving things. I had to laugh at all of your bottle caps because it is something that I would do. I am a hoarder at heart. I keep everything just in case and because it is too nice to throw out. I love that you have a box full of caps in your garage. I can't tell you all the things I have in mine. LOL! HA! HA!
Darn! I just gave all my textbooks to our local thrift shop....guess I will be buying a few back lol...will be saving newspapers now... I need to move to a bigger house... Thanks for the video!! I have a few things here as well that I think I would havs to sell for 4 million too. lol
You should make a basket to hold all your rolled tubes. I think that would get rid of a few million tubes! $4 million on Etsy for a funky basket might just get you a buyer that has more money than you have paper tubes! Nice trade-off!!
Wow, I haven't seen this b4. So neat! And your bowl is very cool and so is that basket! I don't know if anyone else said this but you could start the coils of paper around the bottle caps, like you did the bottle, only they could stay in. TFS!
You are so funny. I just watched your video for the same reason you're keeping bottle tops and really loved it. I've never seen anything like it before. I did once try making paper beads but gave up after about 15 minutes and returned the book. Your baskets are beautiful and should sell for a lot. As crafters/artists we need to really learn to value our time and the quality of our work. I can't wait to see the next video.
Shannon Green, I found your video inspiring and very instructional. You seemed to give good advice on how to make these tubes. I have watched a lot of these videos but I am saving your video for future reference. I have a large tub of old newspaper, mail flyers and expired bills that were headed for recycling, but I believe I will make these and craft some boxes and baskets instead of purchasing them. Thank you Shannon. Don't listen to the naysayers. There is nothing wrong with your video.
Whenever I do paper crafting that needs cutting I just use a rotary cutter wheel...... beautiful crisp edges everytime! I loved this vid.... I come back to it for advice... easy, cheerful, ("'bout a million of 'em then you can make something") not RUSHED!!! Thank you.
You are hilarious, girl. I really enjoyed this. You had me crackin' up. Great job and thanks for the ideas and tutorial. I think I will start rollin my million this weekend.
Love the baskets. I love making the paper beads, still haven't used them...LOL but the grand kids love playing with them and even the boys love making jewelry.
You are fantastic with working newspaper, Ms. Green. I've added you to my people to follow. I'm new to newspaper crafting and I find it to be fun, a vehicle for creativity and relaxing.
Make paint pallets for crafts. Ten to twelve glued to heavy cardboard. a person could then put few drops of paint in each cap and you can then have a pallet of paints to work with.
Pasta machine is brilliant! Good way to reuse what you have on hand. Never thought of it before. Can you do a craft to demonstrate it's use with polymer clay?
+Dean Rasmussen I don't have plans to use polymer clay any time in the near future but I found this video that might help you: th-cam.com/video/2gA0uDlzs_c/w-d-xo.html
Hi Shannon! Loved this video. You are so relatable. Watching this made me want to be your friend. Silly huh? About 2 years ago - probably the same time you were discovering and exploring this craft - I was doing the same thing. Everything you said in this video was the same advice I would give. Although I love working with newspaper to get the longest strips. I like to paint the rolled tubes then weave them into baskets. Using different colored tubes to create a pattern. I made a paint tray from heavy duty foil and used acrylic paint thinned with a little water. I watched the same lady you watched but I also watched a lady who is in Russia - (I think). I also use the wooden skewer like you use . But for thinner tubes that I weave in their round unflattened state - I use a piece cut from a wire clothes hanger. Found you through Kelly Murton demo on the mod podge napkin tip. I subscribed. Thank you! By the way...your hubby (?) sounds like mine. Cute!
Ginger Rogers Thanks so much for watching, Ginger, and for sharing your story. I have watched the Russian woman as well, she is amazing!! I'm happy to share friends with Kellie Murton, she's all kinds of talented! :)
that paper basket and the bowl - so beautiful! I'd never have the patience to make them. water bottle cap ideas: glued to a plastic sheet to make a home-made paint palette? glue them together, top to top, then use them for spacers when making the paper ball garland?
I love your paper rolling craft, especially the box. I also use old books for crafting and take some flack for it! Keep crafting and don’t let the turkeys get you down.
Can't believe these numbskulls that say you talk too much! JUST STOP WATCHING, IDIOTS! You really made me lol and your droll quips made my day! I have to admit that I'm unlikely to EVER make a basket out of rolled paper but am going to become a subbie just to enjoy listening to you! Tfs.
LOL That is so sweet of you Moyra, thank you! I get a lot of negative comments about my chattiness but I get a lot more positive comments about it so it truly doesn't bother me. It baffles me...I'm like you, I just want to tell them that if they don't like what they're watching, look away! Duh! But some folks just like to complain. Oh well. Let them complain. You and me will just sit here and visit. :)
Shannon your last reply was concise yet humorous. You are gifted. I am sure that people get much out of your demos. I skipped through it to get the highlight points. Thank you for sharing.
I saw an incredible self-portrait made from water bottle caps. Obviously they somehow had color added to them and they also used colored caps and at 4 feet away you can tell they're caps. But at 10 feet away it looked like the artist's face. It was in Springfield IL and the artist also made other things out of water bottles that were cool. If I can find a picture I'll post a link.
+Wendy Powell, thank you so much for telling me how I should have filmed this video. If I followed your advice maybe more people would have watched it. In fact, your version was so short and concise I could have ditched TH-cam altogether and done a Vine instead! So sorry you didn't enjoy the video but I'm glad you only wasted 5 minutes of your time what with the bleeding ears and all. Sincerely, This Lady
I really like your style of sharing your thoughts and teaching the rest of us what you want to get across. I bet you're a real hoot irl too. You have a new "biggest fan".
P.S. love the paper basket you made! Keep up good work! I think you're neat....kinda like me🌈 some peeps just don't get it, we creative peeps think outside the box!
Now I know what I can do with that box of my daughters college text books that have been sitting at my house for 3 years! lol Thank you so much for your instructions in this video. I love to watch your videos. You make everything so easy to understand.
Oh Noooo!!! I think my family is going to be finished with me now. My knitting, crochet, jewerly making, ceramics, needlepoint and now baskets and bowls etc from all my mags ... Looks like pizza for dinner again! Thanks for sharing. I'm so excited to start ☺️ I think you save bottle caps for a fundraiser. You just aren't sure which one yet. And as far as the people who post rude and insulting comments.. Who raised you? Weren't you taught if you have nothing nice to say, dont say anything? I'm pretty sure no one is holding a gun to your head making you watch.
Kat Hartman I always have the same thought when I get a tacky comment. No one forced them to watch, why didn't they just look away?! ;) I'm glad you didn't look away and that you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
you can hot glue the plastic caps into an altoid tin to make a travel size watercolor kit, or into something bigger to make a regular sized kit, like a plastic box
brilliant video.at least shes honest about the amount of time it all takes.ive just sat for 2 hours watching related videos on making rolled paper bowls ,I think that's a waste when I could of been actually making one for myself.its addictive watching,it taked your mind off your problems.it should be prescribed by your doctor!! thankyou
I just knew you would love the Gustamonton channel, lol. You've gone paper rolling crazy, lol. Im so pleased you enjoyed making the bowl and basket, they look fantastic. Lol, I have no idea why you are collecting water bottle lids Shannon, lol. But it seems to be a great obsession to have....why not, lol. Lee xx
I loved your video and not once did my ears bleed. You inspired me to learn a new craft or at the very least to watch a ton more TH-cam, lol Keep learning😅
I really enjoyed your video. yes it was long but you chatted as you went and so many hints came out it was very useful. I have watched tons of these 'how to's' and I picked up more tips from yours than all of them. So thank you and keep. sharing with us please.
I think your video was great we all have a preference to what kind of crafts we like to do and i would love to try and make this while watching tv or listening to music thanks for you ideas glad you are crafty us crafters always have smiles on our face Thanks again
Great video.... First I said "oh boy, this is going to be long" I did fall asleep a couple time, not because it was boring ;but, because I suffer from chronic fatigue syndrome. It was so interesting and detailed I started it over 3 time,
Tralasoul B I'm in the same boat, I have CFS, Fibromyalgia, and wide spread arthritis, amongst other things. But that's why I'm looking for cool crafts to do, help my mind stay distracted from the pain. The fatigue is ridiculous thou, I'm sorry that you have to deal with that.
Valerie Foster. Saying a prayer for both you and the first poster. It must be difficult. I'm sick at the moment and don't feel like getting things accomplished that I actually want to accomplish. So, I'll pray for you.
I have no clue what to do with 🚮plastic bottle caps..lol...I usually throw them in our recycling! However, have Kleenex boxes full of beer and soda caps now I have an idea, thanks to you! what to do with them✅👌
I saw a basket made out of weaved paper at Hobby Lobby. I thought how awsome, but I really did not need another "art" project. I'm already doing crochet, knit, polymer clay, plarn, childerns beaded jewlry, ect. Now this : ). To add to duct tape projects, candy wrapper projects ect.. Thank you for your video. I'm saving Sunday paper ads and magazines now.
I've seen that channel before but will have to go back and pay more attention this time! I used to watch Aleene's craft show on television so it makes me feel so old to see Heidi as a grandmother now.
Very interesting . I have seen baskets made out of newspaper ads, but not with the circles like yours. I am now going to have to play with some paper tubes. We have a kagillian old textbooks from 4 kids maybe I should watch that woman's videos, I probably have enough stuff to build that house !
This video is a conversation, not a tutorial, so don't expect it to provide DIY info and process photos. Don't blame the artist just because you are watching the wrong video. The fault is yours.
Darn it, woman.. Can you stop making these interesting projects?! I need to work but I'm stuck on your channel. Lol Your baskets are so awesome ! I wanna make some too.
I'd use a thicker skewer/dowel to roll the paper to make a bowl. Since you flatten the tubes they would be wider thus easier and quicker to make a bowl.
Woah! You mean there's a way to increase the value of my old textbooks that I don't look at anymore? WOAH!!
I appreciate how you like to save/recycle things. With papers you make fun crafts that turn out amazing. Papers may be small but with imagination they could be a whole new world to explore.
Arrianna I Thank you Arrianna!
That is SO cool!!
Can’t believe the remarks some people make. I enjoy you as a person, not just a crafter. Hope you have a thick skin!
Thanks very much Cathie, and yes I do have thick skin! Mean comments don't bother me at all :)
Thank you so much for explaining how you do this. Most videos have no speech on them. I really enjoyed your tutorial. 😊👏👍
It's so nice to have somebody actually talk us through this procedure. A lot of the other videos are just music and showing people's hands and it's nice to have some sort of human behind it. Thank you

Re flattening the tubes, why not try using a rolling pin on a lot of them at once? Love all you do. The Lord surely gifted you!
That's what I thought when I first started watching this!
Thanks for being so thorough. I really like the rainbow colors.
Thanks for taking the time to watch!
the baskets are soooo cool !!!

Penny Swaney I've made tons more beads than I've actually used but that's okay! Making them makes me happy!
Glue foam hearts, shapes, etc. to bottle camps and instant stamp.
Brilliant, thanks!
You're welcome. Works great. Larger lids for larger foam shapes, but have to be flat.

+painting55 Thank you for watching!
Bottle cap basket very beautiful. And paper bowl and colour with markers.amazing.thankyou.
Thanks so much for watching!
Sincerely,
This Lady
I
+Shannon Green this is realy cool(:
Thanks very much!
is it really you making it?
Wynnie Fernandes
Yes it is.
Aww the Paper Beads are so Beautiful and the Colours are so Pretty! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Lol. Thank you Shannon, I really enjoyed watching this video. And reading the comments😄. Your creations are stunning😊
I really like your style of sharing your thoughts and teaching the rest of us what you want to get across. I bet you're a real hoot irl too. You have a new "biggest fan".
That is so sweet of you to say, thank you! And I sure do appreciate you taking the time to watch :)
P.S. love the paper basket you made! Keep up good work! I think you're neat....kinda like me🌈 some peeps just don't get it, we creative peeps think outside the box!
Dawn Dunn They just don't understand what goes on in our enormous brains!
Exactly!
Now I know what I can do with that box of my daughters college text books that have been sitting at my house for 3 years! lol Thank you so much for your instructions in this video. I love to watch your videos. You make everything so easy to understand.
I'm so glad you enjoy them, thanks for watching!
Oh Noooo!!! I think my family is going to be finished with me now. My knitting, crochet, jewerly making, ceramics, needlepoint and now baskets and bowls etc from all my mags ... Looks like pizza for dinner again! Thanks for sharing. I'm so excited to start ☺️
I think you save bottle caps for a fundraiser.

That’s really cool, I have never seen anything like this ever made with old books or magazines. I will have to try it sometime.
Give it a go!
you can hot glue the plastic caps into an altoid tin to make a travel size watercolor kit, or into something bigger to make a regular sized kit, like a plastic box
Great idea, thanks!
Shannon.. this is great. You got my crafty idea juices flowing. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
I have nieces and we made little letters and did magnets on the fridge for them.
brilliant video.at least shes honest about the amount of time it all takes.ive just sat for 2 hours watching related videos on making rolled paper bowls ,I think that's a waste when I could of been actually making one for myself.its addictive watching,it taked your mind off your problems.it should be prescribed by your doctor!! thankyou
coastalhiker Thanks so much for watching!
Cute ideas 💡💡💡
You collected those bottle caps cause you're gonna paint them, make a mosaic tile pattern on top of an old table. 😉
Loved this video. Your bowl and basket are terrific. I especially like the way you put the basket together. Very cool stuff!!!
Thanks so much for watching!
Bottle caps-- to put diatomaceous earth in! Non-toxic to pets & people but kills the bugs!! Fill the caps w/DE place in cabinets, pantries, etc.
Lee xx
string the bottle caps and make a curtain for a room divider.
Love the paper straw projects! Fill those bottle caps with embellished resin and turn them into cool magnets.
Great idea, thanks!
+Pegs Barton That is so sweet of you to say, Pegs, thank you!!!
Could make homemade checker pieces with those bottle caps?
+Everto Ashton Great idea, thanks!
I think your video was great we all have a preference to what kind of crafts we like to do and i would love to try and make this while watching tv or listening to music thanks for you ideas glad you are crafty us crafters always have smiles on our face Thanks again
+Becky Berquist This is a perfect craft for doing while watching TV cuz you don't have to think about it :) THanks so much for watching!
That funky square basket you made is perfect and you should sell them for should. So cool.
Oh thank you very much!
I have no clue what to do with 🚮plastic bottle caps..lol...I usually throw them in our recycling! However, have Kleenex boxes full of beer and soda caps now I have an idea, thanks to you! what to do with them✅👌
Dawn Dunn Great! Thanks for watching!
You are welcome! Thanks for posting!
Ha! I can relate to not needing another project to do. But that doesn't stop me either!
Heck I could probably shingle my own house with the big box of them out in my garage!
I usually don't like glossy finishes but I find that I actually like it on these paper projects.
And just ignore the hateful comments. Internet is full of negative Nancy's.
Thanks Jane, they really don't bother me at all. They're mostly ridiculous.
My name is Nancy :(
jane doe nothing hateful. She moves too much and no action. Plus this craft is so boring. I’d just buy the kinda ugly bowel or basket.
I've seen that channel before but will have to go back and pay more attention this time! I used to watch Aleene's craft show on television so it makes me feel so old to see Heidi as a grandmother now.
My husband's ex father-in-law is collecting plastic bottle cap for a program that pays for a dialysis treatment.

So after you've made about a million of them you can make something 😂😂😂I love it. I make polish star ornaments around Christmas time
Love your tutorial. Could you flatten tubes with a rolling pin?
Absolutely!
Omg,Shannon!! Now I have to get newspaper.I'm going to drive my family crazzzyy with all the papers I've started to hoard...lol.
i know that in missouri we collect caps and lids and donate them and the money goes to children hospital
Ok
Very interesting . I have seen baskets made out of newspaper ads, but not with the circles like yours. I am now going to have to play with some paper tubes. We have a kagillian old textbooks from 4 kids maybe I should watch that woman's videos, I probably have enough stuff to build that house !
Those water bottle caps would make for an interesting chandelier.
Very creative, useful, economic and clever!
Thanks so much!
This video is a conversation, not a tutorial, so don't expect it to provide DIY info and process photos. Don't blame the artist just because you are watching the wrong video. The fault is yours.
Loved the video. Great paper baskets.
go to Mark Montanos channel - he makes paper beads a different way out of the strips like you're making. How to: Make Colorful Bohemian Jewelry
Darn it, woman.. Can you stop making these interesting projects?! I need to work but I'm stuck on your channel. Lol
Your baskets are so awesome ! I wanna make some too.
Ha! If you don't already have ADD just stick around and I'll share mine with you!
Shannon Green
yay for adhd!! lol creative things are mostly created by us add-ers! :)
I'd use a thicker skewer/dowel to roll the paper to make a bowl. Since you flatten the tubes they would be wider thus easier and quicker to make a bowl.
Shannon, this is a great video. Thanks for sharing it.
Thanks for watching!
