Regarding moving away from the bookmark, you might want to make sure you don't move so far that you're near the edge of the cloud. I once had a stealth bomber try to sneak up on me at a gas site, but I was far enough into the cloud that he bumped into it and it gave me enough time to warp out. If I'd been right at the edge I might have been dead.
Thanks for the video though, I didn't realise you could stay out of range of those sentry guns and huff the gas. I normally clear the site with my Drake.
You're correct, which is why I recommend 20km above. The cloud is significantly larger than that, and a Stealth Bomber needs to decloak to shoot. If you're in the cloud, they're unlikely to range their torpedoes, and whilst bombs can travel 30km, it takes them 10s to do so which is slower than your align and warp.
Great fit! I added a mobile depot with a few emergency items like a probe scanner/probes and a prototype cloaking device 1. Also I included 5 light combat drones and 5 light ECM drones. Thanks for the videos!

I've learned it pays to watch Captain Benzie. I scarcely do anything in New Eden without consulting with Captain B. first. I have to share this quick story. I was harvesting an Ordinary Perimeter Reservoir last night in my trusty Prospect. Following Captain Benzie's sage guidance, I was quite comfortably harvesting my second load at the top of the upper cloud when suddenly I spied a venture and 8 scanning probes on D-Scan. I knew this gas site was the only mining related site in the wormhole, having previously thoroughly scanned everything down in my Buzzard, I thought "I sure hope that Venture doesn't warp into this gas cloud." A minute later, a Venture warps on grid and is immediately blapped by the sentry towers. I felt so bad for the guy. He should be watching Captain Benzie! I wish now I had thought to remember his name, so I could send him the link to this video!

LMAO, so i guess everyone has that story of warping to a gas site and getting deleted from the grid. Thought I was the only one.
I've not had it happen to me as I heard about it ahead of time, but yes.
that's me 4 days ago, found a gas site while scanning, was courious what it is, instantly destroyed my magnate
Also happend with Relic/Date sites (the guarded once)
And finally with my "gas mining venture" after i scanned down a gas field, visited it with my Magnate to see what it looks like, coming back with my venture, didn't know that Rats spawn in them, instantly got destroyed.

Great technique. I don't use a hulk but it is still very relevant. Leaving the towers in place gives an extra level of security, in my mind.

You can easily clear these turrets with a combat ship. The real use of this strategy is with c5 gas sites. Those sites do upwards of 2500 dps and can only really be solo cleared in a marauder. (speed/sig tanking cruisers not included) If you warp in with a pod or do it before the rats spawn you can make a safe ~300km away and huff without having to deal with the rats. The c5 sites are massive so it works well. Lower tier sites aren't big enough tho they are very easy to clear.
Yup, I've covered Jedi Huffing and Ninja Huffing in other videos for those big C5 sites like the Instrumental 😊
@captainbenzie no he's referring to warping to the site at zero and burning up 270km and making a bookmark if the rats aren't spawned yet.
Scan ship can set it up and the huffers can warp to the 270km bookmark and huff in peace while the rats stay down at 0.
200km or larger radius clouds this is my preferred method.

You also want to be careful that the cloud does not uncloak your ship, I have had this frequently. If I'm taking in a barge this is the way I get around it. I find a safe spot in dead space, leave the ship warp at 100k to the cloud bookmark and jump back in. I havent had any aggression from the turrets to my pod.

Gas in a hulk... something i never expected
Btw, to all who want to mine any anom in low on null, DONT MINE ROCKS AT THE JUMP IN POINT. Just dont. Forget it. As as soon as u are jumped u are dead. I lost a prospect because of this. Now i fly to the furthest rock i can possibly find, make a bookmark and warp to it. As it takes time, quite some to fly 30-40km, and i can align in 4 seconds
6 sec align for what is basically a barge is very fast for sure tho
But it costs like almost as much as my whole wallet, i also dont have a few skills to fly that fit (oh god gas skill costs quite some isk... says who bought the skill for industrial command ships)
Don't even drift. Warp in at zero, bookmark an ore quickly quickly, get out and come back in.

Fleet up with a porpoise fitted similarly, you can get sub -5 sec also if not better.

A well learned lesson, though! Once you've done it once, you won't do it again!
Why not just make the bookmark at the 20km+ mark (what you traveled upward with the barge in the video), so you can come back at 0km on it and not have to move up at all? That's probably what I would do instead. Also, if I know I'm going to be mining at the same place long enough (more than 1 hour or so), I take the time to create two additional bookmarks with a very fast ship (1000kph or more) at +150km from my mining spot, in opposite directions. It shouldn't take more than a few minutes to setup. Then with my mining ship, I always align to one at 80% speed or so (could be 75% exactly too), and alternate the align with the other perimeter safe spot as I get out of mining range. That way I just move back and forth horizontally as I'm mining and can warp out instantly if something threatening comes in. You're vulnerable for the align time duration as you change direction, but that's ok if it's low enough.
How do you bookmark 20km away from the object without warping to it and moving to position, then bookmarking your position?
@@captainbenzie what I mean is you could have done it cloaked with the first ship, instead of crawling to that 20km mark with the exhumer.
@@YanickGirouard can't do it cloaked as it's in the cloud and the cloud decloaks, but yes, would have been faster.

Just a suggestion but a comparison with a Venture and/or Prospect mining volume and cycle time would probably be good when doing this sort of video, just for some context.

I don't if you ever used the mining barges a long time back, they changed the sound of the mining lasers, it used to pulse and ramp up, I fell asleep many times almost hypnotised by the sound, there was a lot less ganking back then, I woke up many times with a full hold, rather than in a pod, Eve life was much conflict back then, I remember the first time I saw a Dominix with all it's drones out, swarming around it like angry bee's, I thought it was being attacked.

It's possible to beat this. If a T3C or stratios is watching, and your hulk is stationary, they can approach + deactivate cloak + overheat prop mod to bump you off your align. Then they have enough time to lock you.
Everything has a counter
I think you can do the bookmark without a cloak if you use a zephyr . Sleepers should ignore that ship.

Haha neither! Gasoline is an organic mix of various hydrocarbon molecules, usually in a liquid state. In this video, I'm harvesting fullerene gas, which is a carbon allotrope where the atoms are arranged in a roughly spherical mesh that looks fairly similar to a football 😉

Means you're not in an Ordinary, but a different type of Gas Site. You'll need to Ninja or Jedi Huff those (done videos on both) or clear the rats in a combat vessel.
LOL its not overly expensive, YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE ISK to be able to buy it first and no matter how much you can make back if you dont have the ISK you cant buy it. Now add in the cost of the skill books and the components to equip the ship.

Yes, I know the Hulk is fairly expensive me Hence at no point did I recommend the Hulk for brand new or day one players. Since I've already covered the Venture and Prospect, I wanted to cover a different option. How many times should I cover the Venture as a cheaper option, do you think, before being allowed to talk about alternatives?

the cost/effectiveness of a Hulk huffer isnt worth one bit, youre assuming everything is going according to plan, except you forget the horrible allign time of the Hulk plus its paper thin shields and the even worse mobility of the Exhumer.
You forgot to mention that in order for "this to work" you MUST be in a very large corp, otherwise the 400mil Exhumer + fit will end up costing too much to lose every 5minutes, specially in WH space, and even an astero can delete a Hulk in under 5min. ladies and gentlemen, pls dont do this, this just feeds the large corps that reside in WH space that or Wingspan, which they themselves have horrible standings with pretty much everyone.
stick to Ninja gas huffing to Intrumental sites only the Vital cores ones spawn frigates which can lock you down in place in a matter of seconds, plus prospect can huff up C320 pretty good, aproximately 83mil per full cargo so tke my advice with a grain of salt, you still have to fly over to Jita to sell it at a good price and be able to jump through lowsec gate camps, so good luck with the huffing.

I do once I get there but you can't do that from 100km away, can you?
@@captainbenzie maybe i missed something. Watching while working. I thought you warped in with the first ship to 100km, marked the location, then came back with the mining ship, then burned to the mining site.
@@Rattletrap-xs8il yes, but I mean you can't warp in at 100km, then make a bookmark 20km off the object. You can only bookmark the object.
I could have warped to the bookmark with the faster ship, but it wouldn't be cloaked as i would be in the cloud. So I usually just warp in with the Hulk then move up as you can harvest and the chance of being caught at that point is minimal
