Another tip for your abyssals: orbit the battleship much closer. The abyssal battleship npcs have plenty of range but their tracking is awful. A tighter orbit increases your transversal, so orbit at like 3k instead of 35k. The old analogy for understanding this is that the battleship is one of those circle rotating sprinklers and you're trying not to get wet, but you have to run to stay dry at the edge of its range vs a casual walk near the base.
Curve into a close orbit and then those battleships wouldn't even hit you in a cruiser. You'll regain shields till it dies instead of taking occaisional huge hits
Oh yeah, I know how orbital angular velocities work, but a good tip. I figured range also helped with falloff etc
@@captainbenzie ah gotcha, but based on the footage and my own experience Id say whatever you gain in mitigation from possibly leaving optimal is being overshadowed by the increased ability to track you. I sometimes take a hit moving in but once Ive got a tight orbit on those battleships they're nothing more than a dps check.
4 ways you could have survived the final room :
- Learn you priorities. The anchoring damavik was the most harmless one (it scrams, and you have an AB).
- Don't split your damages. Trigs have strong remote reps (especially harrowing) that you need to overcome.
- OVERHEAT :
- Overheat your hardener early. It causes very little heat and increases the EHP gain of the shield booster by a significant amount, saving precious charges.
- Overheat your shield booster. You have a limited amount of charges anyways, you might as well increase the amount of HP each one gives.
- Try to break spool. The vedmak can only hit you within 22km. It chases you quickly, but slows down to orbit you, which gives you a chance to reset its damage multiplier. Overheat AB if needed.

Sorry for your loss, I want to give you a shout out about assault damage control modules. I was running the mid T3 exotics with Cerberus. Easy peasy until my server glitched and I couldn't turn on or off my shield booster...was just stuck red. I was taking good damage and was sort of freaking out. Then I remembered the assault damage control damage stops, very close to armor. Get rest of room dead, breath, resort to killing game and getting back in. Have time to finish rest of site...wahoo disaster avoided. Thanks.

I noticed you mentioned you cannot "orbit" the Karen (karybdis). I'm not sure how it works in a destroyer, but in a frigate you can orbit it enough to where you kinda "lock it" in place, where it slightly drifts but not much. 9/10 times I kill the Karen before it orbits anywhere impactful. Though I can imagine for a destroyer your orbit speed wouldn't be fast enough. Just something to note. People have mentioned you can't orbit a karen even in a frigate, but it's how I do it 9/10 times in abyssals.
The reason this works is bc the karen's primary goal is to get to about 60km away from you in any direction. You orbiting it makes it consistently change its trajectory. Usually the karen starts around the gate, so if you rush it and get a quick orbit on it, you can do the lock and nearly afk the fight.
Thanks for the video. I have tried destroyers in the abyss but always end up going back to assault frigates. Imagine an assault destroyer.

I was able to make something that was somewhat stable in pyfa by effectively copying a worm fitting I had. Worth noting that unlike the worm it is not cap stable, and has significantly less speed. DDA's over BCU's for fitting (it's possible to squeeze in a BCU if you go for a compact EM hardener). I can't see it being viable beyond blitzing low tier abyss as you are still having to work around T1 resist profile, and no matter the dps numbers there's a limit to how far you can go before you just can't tank enough even as a duo. if you could squeeze in a remote rep into the utility high it would give you a bit better tank but even then I'm not sure it's worth what you'd have to sacrifice in fitting elsewhere.

I found a passive one that intrigued me...
When I'm fighting against triglavian ships and mess up, I always try to pull range to break the damage multiplier then go back and try again, works most of the time

Low CPU and PG.....fit more blue and green I guess! Using T2 launchers and mids were doing you no favors fitting-wise! Also...cheap PG and CPU implants helps, use them lol 😉.
FYI, the larger your Orbit the easier they can hit you! Reduce Orbit size till you just can't maintain full speed. Not I have 31km range so will Orbit at 30 🫡

You mentioned the missile bonus to kinetic and thermal damage, and how that would help you and firestorm and gamma abyss. I think you meant exotic abyssals to take advantage of the kinetic resist penalty.

When the Mamba and Mekubal first launched they were very expensive. The price has come right down over the last month.
Passive version does a liiiiitle more defence has 20% less dps but it ignores capacitor problems which is realistically the biggest problem you had there. Also slightly cheaper. Talking of cheaper definately use the cheapo C3 dmg mod. 10 less dps (or something) for half the cost of the fit is a good idea I think...

firestorms are incredibly lethal because thermal is the most dangerous element in the abyss and you are cutting your thermal resistance roughly in half , its the main reason firestorms are the cheapest filaments and people run super specific fits for firestorms like the ikitursa , its not a big deal ive lost billions in the abyss and thats even with when we could practice on the test server

Firstly, they're not this much anymore, it was just that this ship was brand new and very hard to get.
That's basically it for why they cost more than empire ships - they're rarer, harder to get because they're from the pirate factions out in Nullsec.

Well, yes... But this ship will get a lot cheaper in about a week or two.
The amount of time it would take grinding these Abyssals to replace the hull is absolutely not worth the risk. I get doing this for a video, but this seems like an incredibly bad idea for any other case. I fly only what I can replace in a day's worth of effort. That way, instead of negating weeks/months of game time with a loss like this, I'm only set back by a few hours.
The ship is already less than a quarter of the price shown here

Using an Ancillary shield booster in PvE as the only tank is... a decision.
It's bigger boosts than a SSB and fits. Simple as that.
@@captainbenzie It's also a burst tank designed for PvP, and fitting can be made for a MSB.
A PvE fit using an Ancil has a severely limited top end, especially if you're considering it a "7bn ISK" fit (which it's pretty clearly not, it's just the game using a recent estimate for the hull cost)
This ship screams for faction launchers.

You wouldn't use a medium shield booster on a destroyer anyway - and it IS a destroyer; an immensely expensive/overpriced dessie but nonetheless.
If you fit a med booster on a "normal" dessie, it WILL wipe out the PG/CPU. It's supposed to be a glass cannon small ship.
I don't see anyone who isn't plexing or is an online Croeusus/Midas choosing this ship unless they're just bit obsessed by Gurista ships.
And that's from someone who really REALLY loves the Worm and Gila
Even only halfway through this video before the Abyssal, I know how you could lose this: neuts, webs and "Foop!"
I've lost TWO Gilas in T2s at level 2 mastery with decentish fits with Cap batteries and boosters because if you get neuted and webbed, you gon' die and not much you can do if you're unlucky.
And I absolutely did the same thing with the cap boost charges on one.
It's soooo easy.
The point of this video was just playing with a ship to see how far I could push it. I did a follow up that was about what I learned.
Price will come down, and then imho it's much better than the Worm without needing Gila skills.

@@davidnobular9220 Thorax isn't a glass cannon. It's surprisingly tanky for its class. Gallente aren't glass cannon by nature and have some of the tankiest ships in the game.

You just get way more bang for the buck using a t3 destroyer
The Mamba has become a lot cheaper since this video and is Alpha friendly, whereas a T3D isn't. But yes, I do agree - just there are circumstances where the Mamba will be the better option for a player.

A t1 destroyer for 8 bil? I can't image any reasoning why to bring such a ship into the Abyss, unless its fun for me to burn 8 bil ISK just for a laugh. My Navy Catalyst has significantly less DPS (no drones here, but still not bad with close to 300), but all other stats are slightly to much better, and it costs less than 0.5% of that Mamba.
As I say in the video, it's only that much cos it's super rare right now. Will drastically drop in cost next week. In fact, it's already down below 1bn. Should stabilise around 200-300m

It's not the anticipated future worth of such a ship, it's about the actual worth of the ship at the time you procured or made it. If you can afford to invest and eventually loose 8 bil ISK on an endeavor like that, that's totally fine.

Fun. Not everyone wants to fly a Gila, its dull as dishwater, which is why I haven't covered it in Abyssals. Some folks want to fly a ship that they enjoy rather than copy-paste a fit from the internet ;)
i feel like these things are HUGE gank targets.... 7Bil distroyer? with >10k eph single Cat could kill that in 0.8 space
1) They're not 7bn anymore. This was a day or two after they first launched. They're a few hundred mil now.
2) I've improved the EHP since then, this was the first fit I tried - I did other videos :D
3) Anything can be a gank target. Someone spots an Abyssal Trace on DScan, they'll warp a fleet to it. They might get a Gila, they might get a T1 Dessie. Make your Abyssal Traces in Deep Safes ;)
