    Based on the type of design you want to do, will you learn drawing skills?

    I'm actually interested in graphic design and I'm not that good at drawing. Thanks for the clarity that I don't have to be that good at drawing, I just gotta be creative as much as I can

    Thank you! No drawing skills needed! Just click and choose fonts! Easy! Also just use square, circle, traingle for logo & download pre-made vectors. Anybody can be a graphic designer! Even a pumpkin! Just let the computer do the work! Perfect 👌

    Ive never actually sketched on paper properly before; when i got into drawing and stuff, I just jumped in head first on my tablet, redesigning movie logos. I recently started making digital posters too, and so i would like to experiment with drawing on paper someday. This helped, thank you Lauren!

      That's a cool way to learn about design! But yes I highly recommend sketching on paper first :)

    Well! A Designer doesn't need to become an Illustrator. It's true! However....!!! A Designer must draw. And it's not about having a "nice" "technical" draw. The goal is to understand forms, abstraction, positive and negative spaces and finally to train your mind to build and deconstruct elements to eventually create new compositions. The examples in the video are actually very good. Cheers!

    • @4TheCreatives
      @4TheCreatives  ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally see your point but those are all design fundamentals not the technical skills 👍😊 Thanks for sharing!

    • @guillermoc.1467
      @guillermoc.1467 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@4TheCreatives Well... It is important to demystify this belief that the use of computer tools or "techniques" makes you a Designer.
      Although technical knowledge is important; especially when it is at the production stage, technical knowledge does not make the designer. Someone can be very good at drawing or with software; yet mastering these tools does not make you a Designer.
      Design is much more than mastering computer tools. Anyone can use these tools. Not just anyone is a Designer.

    • @4TheCreatives
      @4TheCreatives  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@guillermoc.1467 oh ABSOLUTELY!! I talk about this extensively throughout my channel. I am very against anyone even learning the Adobe programs until after they understand a great grasp of composition and layout including hierarchy, balance, contrast, alignment, repetition and white space. In fact the way I teach it is with first blocking out these concepts with sketches after finding tons of examples.
      But too often I get asked “but do I need to make these sketches amazing?” And for that I say NO! It’s to just get the basics feeling natural to you so when you go to the computer these concepts are much easier to apply.

    Great video Lauren!!
    I agree that drawing gives you more freedom and more abilities to make your own illustrations without the need of spending hours of trying to get the exact stock image which suits your idea.
    I am also trying to practice drawing on my Wacom tablet for this reason.
    (Btw I am amazed by all the hand sketches you drew, I can see a great evolution in making them 😃👏)

    Well, graphic design is art, and graphic designers do need to know to draw if they want to create GOOD logos, posters, book covers and so on. Art school or collage wont let you in without having some sort of drawing abilities. If you don't know how to draw, you will face many difficulties in your career. I hate seeing a design without any illustration because it doesn't look as good. Believe me, I know what I'm talking about. You don't need to draw like old masters did, but you need to have at least some drawing skills in order to create good looking designs.
