yeah a lot of times especially with heavyweights i dont mind them stopping it slightly early, i would MUCH rather the red stop a heavyweight fight slightly early than too late
The Kimbo, Wedum, and Lewis fights were all good stoppages IMO. The only sort of questionable one was Kimbo but dude looked completely out on his feet. Lewis face planted and was done. Werdum was in full back mount raining down shots and dude was going nowhere

A lot of these come down to not defending yourself. You can “conscious” all you want, but if you’re not defending from strikes in a dominant position, the ref is gonna stop it.

Some of these were definitely good stops. When you get hit without defending like a dozen punches you shouldn’t be surprised when it gets stopped even if you’re conscious. Fighters will always say it’s early but there’s a huge difference between Mazagati taking a fighters word for their opponent tapping and Vera curled up taking ten shots.
I'd like to shout out Alhassan vs. Homasi 1 as another early stoppage. Also, that Drew Dober one is probably the worst early stoppage in the history of combat sports. Absolutely nothing about that indicated that he was out, or even in trouble.

The stoppage isn’t the thing that frustrates me the most; it’s when the ref knows he fucked up so he over compensates by embracing/handling the loser to make it look like they can’t stand up by themselves.
Can anyone tell me if there's anything wrong about saying "my bad, that was a bad call, sorry, keep on"? It seems like every time a ref does a bad call, they get cocky and want to stop the fight even if they know they fucked up. Check on the fighter, judge if they can keep fighting and resume the fight. Really stubborn or maybe they get fined for admitting a bad call.
Late stoppages can result in painful injuries, but early ones excruciating heartbreak. You can't stop it, acknowledge it was a mistake and then resume and then argue that it's exactly like it would've been if it had never been stopped and restarted, because that could completely and solely change the outcome of the fight. It's something that seems to be very unique to MMA as a sport due to its unpredictability and intricacies.
A lot of these stoppages were really good. People forget how much brain damage is in this sport. Refs job is to protect fighters even if they want to keep going
People get mad at the Derrick Lewis stoppage but I don’t disagree with it. He took several solid punches, was backing up, wasn’t landing his own, and then fell to his knees. I understand he wasn’t out yet but it wasn’t looking good from a refs perspective
