Find out what I thought of Arcade1Up's first racing cabinet and how it compared to the sit down bench version. Is this a winning lap for Arcade1Up or will cheap plastic parts spoil the arcade illusion and leave you broke down on the side of the road?

Welcome to my channel. I have been playing and collecting games since 1987 and I use this channel to share my passion and memories of gaming. I review games that I believe are under appreciated or wrongfully dismissed on Game Genie Reviews. Video Game Nostalgia is a fun series where I take a look at a topic from my gaming past and share games that come to mind from it. I also do Top 10 lists, of course I do...what else is on youtube right? Well I like to think I put my own spin on them because they are based on my life in gaming. Hope you enjoy the channel and always looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks for checking out my review of Arcade1Up's OutRun Stand Up Racing Cab! Let me know what you think of it in the comments
I bought this cabinet based on the FOMO created by viewing your previous video where you played/demo'ed the games. I love it. It adds much needed variety, both cabinet and gameplay, to the game room vibe. I'd highly suggest getting the side panel SEGA decals and Steering wheel decal. I did, and they make the cab more Arcade Nostalgic. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the steering wheel. The gear shift and pedals however, I fear they wont hold up over time sadly. I'm hoping Retro show Glen makes a replacement pedal set and possibly a shifter. I'd happily pay a decent price for a replacement pedal set, I wasn't afraid would break. Thanks again for the great review.
Thank you so much and thanks for checking out that stream too. I love this cabinet and IO am in the exact same place hoping Glen is working on a replacement pedal set at least.
Personally, I find myself using that gear shifter with a very light touch. Helps that the games aren't super dependent on using it. It's those pedals that are top priority for replacing.
Great job. Looks fantastic. I ordered the sit-down version and am glad I did. I received Ridge Racer a few days ago, and having to stand to play it was so tiring at 8:00 at night. I only played for about ten minutes. Ridge Racer took about 8 hours to put together.
I just played an original cabinet at my mechanic's shop today. I am delighted that this product is available
Really wish Arcade1Up start shipping these outside of North America. Here in the UK we’ve only been given the first few cabinets that were released, which I have all of. But this would be my jewel in the crown as it’s my absolute favourite arcade racer and it also has Power Drift! I doubt it’ll ever make it to these shores though, it really does baffle me!
Got to say that I am really pleased with how this machine came out, too. (Save that cheap pedal assembly.) May A1U take this experience and only improve upon it in future drivers.
And I will only use the pedals in socks, as well. Feels way too plastic-y and budget to stand up to shoes. Now, if the community ever figures out a replacement to those, I will most likely be among the purchasers.
Got a fun, little story with this one. When I went to pick up the machine at my 'local' Best Buy, they up and pull out...a PS5. Had my name on it and everything. After vocally correcting the error, they wheeled out the machine. And I didn't wind up with some kid's amazing reservation score on that very hard to find console. Personally, with the (then) news about how current consoles can wind up bricked after their servers shut down, I'm not very interested in the modern machines. At least for the moment. So, I feel that I had made the better choice.
Just picked up the outrun standup last Friday for $300 on marketplace. Am loving it!
Congratulations! That is an awesome score. I paid that much in shipping and duty charges alone.
@@MichaelBtheGameGenie hey micheal how much is US money you would say you paid to import it to Canada from the US ??
Another great review! This is a cab that's been on my list for a long time. I'm hoping it'll go on sale at some point. I have no interest in ridge racer, and if I had to choose between cruise'n and outrun, I'd probably still choose outrun. So I feel like this cab is an eventuality for me.
Fantastic review Mike! Keep up the good work my dude. I have the sit down version with a modded seat and I play that cab almost every time I’m in the arcade. Outrunners is my favorite game. I like being able to choose different cars. Thanks for the review!
I think I need this! I got a spot saved for a racer and have been really hoping for Daytona. My lack of patience will get the best of me and I’m gonna pull the trigger on this one. Glad you reviewed it and good work Genie 👍
I really enjoy my sit down version, I built a riser and pushed the pedals back for comfort. Great video! 👍🏽
Thanks Kato, I actually sit on a bench when playing teh stand up version so best of both worlds
"Magical sound shower" is another iconic music to play the game along with.
This track has a huge amount of fans around the globe and has bands playing it and was also remixed.
Well, it remains a question of taste.
Both are cool. Yet ohers may choose Passing breeze. 😀
Cheers.
Having a blast! Favorite games are, in order: OutRunners, OutRun and Turbo OutRun (the latter being less and less since my elder son keeps on kicking my a**, over and over and over... ;) ).
Me too, we are almost in the exact same order as well. Rad Rally is kind of the pits though
This cab shows how far A1U has come. This and Big Buck Hunter look great. The racing game I want is Daytona. Now Rolling Start is stuck in your head. You're welcome. :)
Great review!
Did Arcade 1up ever explain why neither of the OutRun cabs use the Sega logo on the marquee or side art?
Not officially but what was told to me was after what happened with the AtGames Clone Consoles Sega is a little reluctant to have their logo on something made by a third party partner
@@MichaelBtheGameGenie This must be a recent thing, as they were slapped all over those Tiger LCD games in the '90s.
Great review Mike. Good choice picking up the standup cab. It's the better option as far as comfort playing that cab. Stools soso but uncomfortable after 10 or so min of gameplay
Thanks Steve, I actually do play sitting on a stool and have no issue with it at all
Great review! It’s to bad this wasn’t available to buy or order from the Brick or best buy here in Newfoundland.
I know Phil, It is available through Wayfair which may be a little cheaper than direct
Hahahahaha that sock comment was hilarious! You got the best arcade 1up collection on TH-cam Bravo Bravo
Great video like always Michael. Looking forward to your reviews on Xmen and Simpsons. We have those pre ordered also.
Thank you so much. I am getting so excited for both now. Hopefully they ship on time.
I'm definitely experiencing the "sticking out" effect with my seated Out Run. Wasn't as apparent, but as I added more and more cabs, the logistics of it is becoming an issue. Wishful thinking, but hope A1up or third party would offer a "conversion kit" with a riser and kick plate.
I am surprised none of the third parties have thought of that, maybe I will talk to Buy Stuff Sore
its crazy the shipping prices i payed 500 pounds for shipping my sit down outrun i get the stand up for taking you back to your childhood but i think its easer to do the breaks and other pedal because if your standing up you could easy break the pedal i bought this because this was my childhood fav games i wish Arcade 1 up came to the uk so shipping wouldn t be so high if Arcade 1 up came to the uk id buy more games but this will be the only one i get this will take long time to pay off nice review by the way i think because we was so young when this arcade came out was great to play stand up but we all are now mid 40s now we cant stand as much lol
PDUBS appreciates you putting on your Duck Hunt socks. Ive got the mike tysons punch out socks!!!
All the trouble of getting your hands on this cabinet must be WORTH it, it looks amazing and I'm sooo jealous 😍😍😍
loved this game and lucky and wild, which would be awesome if they did a full on sit down bench seat , with gun
Thanks for watching buddy!
@@MichaelBtheGameGenie anytime brother! love the ye videos !
Cab looks great! Awesome review Michael B!
Thanks Jason man!
Cool review Mike! Looks like a fun cab.
Thanks Brother! It's a winner so far
This is a Sega house. It has been properly branded. Even bought a custom Sega license plate for the back of my custom racing seat. Also the Ferrari steering wheel logo. I gotta say they did a good job at the price point. If this came out now I suppose it'd be $1,000.
Right? I think it's pretty impressive for the price point. I do wish the pedals were better quality
@@MichaelBtheGameGenie I'm hoping some talented modders make available better pedals. Definitely the weak point. I don't let our 5 year old play it alone! Ha
Fantastic review ! Bravo et merci Michael ! ;)
Nice review. It’s impossible to find an Outrun cabinet to buy so Michael, if you ever decide to sell your Outrun cabinet I will buy it from you. You live in Canada and I live semi-close to Canada since it only takes a 3-hour drive before I enter Canada’s 🇨🇦 soil. 😊
wow for a guy your size, no offence meaning that cab looks great and actually pretty good in terms of size.Great video mate and love the mini home arcade you have in your home.
Holding out for Cruisin USA and World, Gti Club or Crazy Taxi
Would welcome any tips on where to find a standing OutRun cabinet... Ebay only got pickup at location (not possible from my location) sitting ones. Was a big fan since the 80's when it came out and into early 90's childhood
Great review as always
Now that it’s 2023. Do you think 1up or any sellers will release anymore? (in the States) I can’t seem to find any good local pick ups or brand new ones for the stand up edition.
$400 just to get it to your door! Even in Canadian dollars that is insanity. You're devoted to this life, crazy, or a little of both.
Crazy the answer is clearly crazy
They should have included Racing Hero.
Yes, riding hero on neo geo
nice bubba hotep poster bro! wheres the kennedy poster? lol😂
Should've been Super Monaco GP instead of Rad Rally
Completely agree
Nice review! What is the deal with the lack of Sega branding on this? A quick Google is telling me nothing.
@michaelbthegamgenie Is the gameplay appropriate for toddler age gamers? Does the software allow for crashing or more skilled driving? Can my 4-year-old just hit the gas and have fun?
Mine, the pedal or steering wheels don't work? On the start up screen cant click anything while pushing buttons. Any help or advice is appreciated thanks
Haha. "FOOT-age".
This is definitely the version to get.
I bet they could have added Sega's Turbo pretty cheap.
Haha, i never wear socks so you guys are all welcome. I have no idea why they went with Rad Rally I mean its okay but there are so many better options
Nice posters behind you Mike! Aside from being in love with the cabinet, I’ve got a few favourite movie posters myself. Do you do anything to weigh your cabs down or secure them in any way?
Thank you! Nope, they are on carpet and that is like cement for some reason so they dont move
💥Great review 👍
Looks great!
Would have loved if it was the sit down cab.
Hey Michael- does your Outrun produce any hum/buzzing? How did you solve it?
Hey is this better than ridge racer? I’m trying to decide what I want.
Thanks for the review. I really want the AtGames racer, but to be honest a cab like this might be a better fit in my house. I'll wait and see what the AtGames cab looks like before I decide. Do you know if any third party makes an upgrade for those pedals that will work with it? At the current price point for this cab, I wouldn't mind buying new pedals if they're not too expensive.
You are welcome. I am trying to convince Glens Retro Show to make a set, if anyone can do it right its him
@@MichaelBtheGameGenie That would be awesome!
I did the SEGA logos on my sit down Outrun. I’ve always wondered why SEGA never agreed to putting their name on these, any incite Mike?
So I had heard on from John D either on a live show or a facebook post that Sega were hesitant to put their branding on a third party product because of getting burned in the past. Take that for what you will.
@@MichaelBtheGameGenie Yeah I think I know exactly what they are talking about. Side note- Sucks we weren’t closer in Canada man, I’m selling the MVSX and probably my Punisher cab (Rasberry Pi and Sanwa controls)
does anyone know if arcade 1 up is making a cruisn usa because that would be awsome
Can you mod this cab to play other racing games
I sold the sit down version also. Didn't fit in well at all with the rest of the cabinets in appearances, felt small and under sized like a toy. And just as you stated the pedals are plastic junk just waiting to break. I wouldn't recommend this cabinet if you are worried about hardware failure. It appeared almost inevitable for those cheap plastic pedals to break the first time a kid jumps on with shoes and gets rough with it.
700 bucks and no force feedback amd cheap controls.. nope
im still waiting for you to talk to me next time.😂
SEGA is the GOAT of arcade games
Turbo Outrun 👏 👏 👏 👏
Looks so much better than the sit-down in the geniecade. Nice addition
Thanks Bob, i totally agree and very happy with it so far
$400 in shipping!!! HOLY SHIT!
$700 is a solid pass for me...had 15 of these at one point n time but they are so over priced n greedy nowadays I can't bring myself to support them as a company
If you put the original upright cabinet side by side to the 1UP, you can see that Arcade1UP has chosen the lazy/cheapest way to make this cabinet. Apart from the side art, which is the same, everything else is so different. I don't get it, if they want to go the authenticity/nostalgia way, why don't they design their cabinets to look as close to the original as possible? I won't even mention the sit down version because that one looks like a bad joke :)
I'm not entirely sure, i guess they were trying to walk that line of doing the stand up and the sit down in the same mold? I certainly prefer when the cabs are as close to authentic as possible
NO NONONONO,,,,,You must have a CAR cabinet otherwise....where's the point??
Well i would love to have a real sit down OutRun brother
Be careful. 3 years from now most these cabinets will be outdated and not worth much. Better versions are coming.
