@@HardikAgrwl wut. Thats not at all what contrary does. It reverses all stat changes. He was entirely right about that
@@HardikAgrwl contrary does opposite stat changes. So instead of -2 from leaf storm it gets +2. Believe youre thinking of defiant, which gives a +2 Atk boost for every drop, changing a -1 intimidate to +1.
Main difference is contrary can boost other stats from things like electroweb, because the -1 speed becomes +1 speed, while defiant will always boost attack by 2 stages, no matter the dropped stat
Also defiant cannot be activated by anything but the opponent, meaning dropping your own stats won't give you boosts, unlike contrary.
I think one of the bigger ones you missed was Politoed getting Drizzle in gen 5 via dream abilities. It singlehandedly caused both weather wars to be a thing AND it's subsequent nerf the next generation

He also forget to mention the very much needed buff to the weak Pokémon inceneroar in gen 8 that was gaining access to parting shot.

Also, in Gen4, Dragonite receiving Extreme Speed in HGSS allowed him to became an important part of the entire metagame, both in singles and doubles. Worth mentioning.
Yeah because after Salamence released, most just saw it as a better Dragonite. Extremespeed changed that, as did Multiscale.
Mega Salamence was a huge addition in ORAS, forgot to mention that

Rillaboom getting grassy glide was a insane buff. I hope it retains it in Scarlet/Violet or else Tapu-Bulu will take over it's spot in OU.
I like tapu bulu so I wouldn’t mind that, bulu is really cool
Honestly? Even without Grassy Glide, Rillaboom is going to overshadow Bulu, due to the insane difference in movepool. Rillaboom has U-turn, Knock Off, Fake Out (important in doubles), and has a key 10 better base speed.
All Bulu really has to offer is kinda better bulk, and a Dragon immunity. But when you compare it to the sheer support potential Rillaboom has, it's no contest.

Honorable mention to event sing Raichu in gen 8 for those of us who like rolling the dice
For singles, one of the biggest buffs was triple axel Weavile. Giving Weavile and effective 120 Base Power ice move was insane on top of its already strong knock off stab made it one of the best wall breakers/revenge killers in all of smogon OU
Remember protective pads Deci back in OU, those were the days man can’t believe we used that shit before it rose to AG.
One change (for singles) that you missed was dracozolt/arctozolt getting sand rush/slush rush in the crown tundra. It made dracozolt a decent pick for sand teams instead of being a gimmick in ou. But for arctozolt, it single handedly made it broken in uu and making hail teams (not auroara veil teams those are different) viable in ou.

Dracovish gaining sand rush with the release of CT was kind of notable in BSS for a bit. It made it far less reliant on choice scarf, and some players tried using vish alongside Hippo or Tyranitar, which allowed it to make use of power boosting items like Life Orb and Choice Band more effectively.
Eventually the hype did subside, as generally Strong Jaw is preferred, but every once in a while Band Rush vish pops up in BSS, and it can be very threatening it played correctly.
The fact that they didn’t let us have a direct counter to Incineroar is criminal.

I've heard that Hypnosis had 70 accuracy in Diamond and Pearl, but was switched back to 60 in Platinum. I think that technically counts as a mid-generation nerf, even if it followed a beginning-of-generation buff.

One notable buff you missed out is Drifblim having access to unburden. It was dominant strategy throughout the meta game ever since Shoma Honami use it during the Geico tournament.

Starters getting their HAs are the big one. Thinking of this generation; Cinderace and Rillaboom immediately went from very low use to huge use
Cinderace was at least pretty great in singles with heavy duty boots and court change

I have just found your channel and I am just getting into competitive pokemon. Your videos have gotten me really interested in double battles since I realized how much more flexible decisions can be compared to singles. I feel like in singles, one pokemon on the field is hard countered by the other but in doubles, another pokemon can be there to tackle the threat. That being said, I have mostly been focusing on learning about single battles because smogon seems to have much more learning resources for it and there seems to be a bunch of more wacky strategies that can be pulled off in doubles so I wanted to start off with something more straightforward. I'm still just beginning to learn what makes the most popular pokemon powerful in the overall metagame

In fairness the vid's about Pokemon that got buffs within a generation, whereas nerfs happen between generations. I guess unless you count metagame shifts, like Incineroar punting Arcanine out of the VGC meta entirely, and more abilities being immune to intimidate.

One that I always like to bring up is Mega Gyrados getting access to Crunch, which it actually didn't learn until ORAS. Really stinks of poor planning when you change a Pokemon's type and don't give it anything better than Payback to use with said type. Still have no idea why they didn't make it Water/Dragon because it already gets more than enough Dragon coverage for that

I can't believe he didn't cover Lopunny in more depth; that thing went from shïtshow to power surge.
Specifically being a pokemon that you can't resist both o his stats because the 2 types that resist its normal moves are weak to fighting with a higher attack that Garchomp. Also it can fake out ghosts.

Another mid gen buff wasn't for Pokémon so to speak but in gen 6 X and Y if you mega evolve, on that turn you move based on the non mega evolutions speed stat Vs omega ruby alpha sapphire where you instantly get the speed boost

No, they don't add new abilities mid generation unless they are given by a new form it didn't previously have access to

So Magic Guard wasn’t added in Platinum, but it was new for Clefable?

They do it constantly for the side games, but rarely for the main. Both Sword & Shield need a patch, and we do need a petition for them to do so. The last championship showed a single team build was stronger than all others. It was disgusting how imbalanced the game was shown to be. During Sun & Moon series there was range of top 20 to 35 competitive Pokémon, you could add add to your team. In Sword & Shield it isn’t any good to choose outside the top 8 recommended.
Pokemon will never be balanced because Singles and Doubles are two entirely different formats. GF has a clear preference for balancing for VGC, but they still continue to add various mechanics and Pokemon that would clearly pose a problem even in VGC like Dracovish/Fishous Rend
