    Quick question, how do you disengage the screw on the rachet in order for the catapult to slip with the slip gear? Great build btw!!

    • @606X
      @606X  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The ratchet only catches in one direction. Since our catapult only needs to be driven forward, (the motor never spins backwards), the ratchet is always slipping when the motor is retracting the catapult.
      The ratchet prevents the system’s rotation in the backwards motion, because we never want the catapult spinning backwards.
      Hope this helps.

    • @dreeew141

    Just wondering how you drilled out the 72 tooth gear for the ratchet on the cata because when we tried to drill it out, the gear started melting and we couldn't get through the metal.

    • @606X
      @606X  ปีที่แล้ว

      This bot doesn’t use 72t gears for the catapult. On our worlds bot, we drilled out the 72t gears by drilling out little by little and squirting the gear with water to prevent melting.

    love you video Vex hex question about catapults in general? The motor would pull the cata down and spin the ratchet untill it’s into position them to shoot it would you spin the cata father down untill the slip gear slipped or would you somehow release the ratchet or what’s a way to release the catapult?

    • @journeyhancock
      @journeyhancock 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The gear turns until it reaches the slip part and then the catapult launches. The ratchet is on the gear powered by the motor, essentially just to lessen the load of the catapult on the motor. The only way for the catapult to release is to use a slip gear, because the catapult needs to be able to spin on its own in order to shoot.

    • @606X
      @606X  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We encountered heavy defense at our competitions, leading to chips in the front cata plate and the right side panel in the unsupported sections.
      The front intake ramps are meant to push discs out of the way when we do rollers and there are discs jammed against the wall. They also help us wedge under people’s drivetrains to increase our defensive ability.

    Was wondering how do you guys have such a smooth movement when driving, our previous builds with 4 motor and now 6 motor usually rock back and forth when we let go of the stick to have the robot come to a standstill.
