For my guitar videos I plug my amplifyer directly into the line in port at the back of my Windows 98 computer. I then record the video with the webcam I use and I set it to record the audio from the line in port. If I were to just record audio normally and without video I would use Audacity. Simples. Also, I don't even use video editing software. At least not yet.
well man, he's not insulting you. This is a online persona I'd hope you were mature enough to realize that. Secondly, making money with guitar is hard as hell. If you wanted to learn how to record guitar there's plenty of tutorials on the internet for you to do that. So I don't know man if you wanna know look it up!
So true. I have one, it doesn't have any knobs and stuff like the Scarlett and it's just a socket I put my guitar cable in but that's all I need it to be. Can't beat it for 15 bucks.
You can also just export the video you transfer from your camera onto your computer into logic pro… there you can adjust the camera sound with the sound you recorded so sound and video matches. Then mute the camera audio and just use the recording and you are good to go.
not trying to be an annoying commenter, but I feel like a lot of the info in this video might be kinda misleading at points, so I just made a list -the 2i2 is not "the industry standard," it's just really common among home recorders (not knocking that ftr, I use one as my main interface) -you cab use Reaper on Windows, Mac and Linux -same with Davinci Resolve -Logic isn't the industry standard DAW for any operating system, Pro Tools is (again bare in mind, I say this as someone who owns both Pro Tools and Logic and is normally working in FL, Ableton or Bitwig, not tryna be all classist about it) and finally -nice hair, dude 😊 Seriously tho, not tryna be annoying or anything, just wanted to clarify bc while I think you know all these things, i worry about newcomers coming away with more questions than answers and feeling like they have less choices than they actually do. Anyway, have an awesome day, dude 😊
Thank you for mentioning this, I was holding my head most of the things he said as a sound engineer, but there is nothing wrong with the things he say, but some of the info is definitely wrong lol
Sure, they're not the definitive tools for everyone, but calling Logic Pro and 2i2 'industry standards' isn't some cardinal sin of misinformation. It's shorthand for 'these are widely used and respected, which is absolutely true.
The Arturia Minifuse interface is pretty good and it comes with Ableton Lite for free, it is somewhat limited with only 8 tracks but its free and the interface is cheaper than the Scarlet 🤷
Another way, although Im unsure if it reduces quality, is to stream your audio from your DAW into something like OBS. And hit record. You have both Audio and Video being captured at the same time. I use Reastream as a plugin, send the audio locally into OBS that way. Hope this helps too.
I’ve spent quite some time the past few months trying to get it set up. So many issues though, massive delay on Ableton Lite, DAW are so expensive too. I have huge respect for the guitarists who figured all this out, downloading plug ins, I had to make like 13 accounts, and still no idea how people even make the pedals appear on their screens aha. Someone needs to do a full lesson on this stuff I’d watch for sure.
DUDE!! Reaper has this thing where it’s free the first 30 or so days, it’s great for recording instruments, and you won’t have to worry about latency as much (the reason why your current DAW is so delayed), once you’ve done that, Plugins are pretty easy to get going, if you don’t have an interface (I fw Scarlett audio interface) then there are definitely other ways on the internet that’ll help you get started, but after that you basically just open your daw Open your “mixer” Then make sure your guitar is producing noise (yt tutorials) Then go through effects, and eventually you’ll find it, but I recommend watching a yt video on this. However… I don’t think Abelton lite supports plugins and things like that, you’d have to buy the actual version (at least that’s how it is on FL lite but idk)
You don't need all of this to record. In most of my videos, I just use my Positive Grid Spark GO to record, it costs less than the audio interface mentioned in the video and it's an actual guitar amp (it's very small as it's portable, but surprisingly loud), with an easy to use app. Then you just plug it into your PC and you can record directly from it. No delay when playing as you use the amp itself to hear yourself, but there will be delay if you use a backing track, you'll just have to sync it up after, no big deal. In my latest cover I also tried just recording my actual guitar amp with a mic, this is not too complicated or expensive either. You just need a mic and a mixer/interface and plug it in your PC.
I just record it on my phone. I dont do all thus fancy stuff. And my mic sucks sometimes, idk why. But it’ll catch the guitar and like put an audio filter over it where it slunds like air just slowly going over the mic and making a background noise thing. I like it
I’ve been doing it wrong for so long.. 🤦♂️ But complimented numerous times by many people on my style and tone.. I record with a very old iPhone, and sometimes I use a go pro.. I use the built in mics.. Obie trice, real name no gimmicks 😂

Take it to the next level (like he does) with a nice clear background and good lighting in your video. Don’t end up with dark, orange videos because you film in your basement (or room) with the blinds closed and a desk lamp pointed at you.
Bro.. you are good at using direct interface plug-ins.. I had the hardest time finding the right guitar sounds…one time I placed my iphone (with built-in microphone via GarageBand) in front of my amp, it came out Alright… I just messed around with noise gates & compression…😊. It’s not as great or professional compare to yours and others.. But it was decent enough
Brandon, please do this for mobile! I can’t figure out how to get my amp hooked up to where I can play out loud while being connected to my iPhone. Haaaaaaalp plz!!!
I’ve never had a good experience with reaper. Even my dad, who has been in the industry for years, couldn’t for the life of him figure out reaper. We both use Studio One instead. It ain’t free but we don’t care

talking about recording, you should make some video about your tone
My dad has had a scarlet 2i2 for years now and I’m so happy that it’s still relevant today 😭
not trying to be an annoying commenter, but I feel like a lot of the info in this video might be kinda misleading at points, so I just made a list

One of your most useful videos ever.
You don't need a 2i2 if you're just recording one channel; the Solo will do just as well
You can use a VST host, such as Gig Performer. It is used by many guitarists across the globe.
I wasn’t ready for the last word!!! 🤣🤣😭😭
Thank you. This is exactly what I needed, and exactly presented to me in the tone I needed.
I've always wondered how to properly make guitar videos. Thx so much for the clear and concise video Brandon! This helped massively
Reaper is also on mac, and Ardour, Waveform and more are freely available. Pick a DAW, add your plugins and enjoyyyyy 🔥
Best simple tutorial for starters like me. Thanks bro!
This is the way.. the steinberg mk2 ur22 is also a great budget option for an audio interface

you should really suggest Cubase elements for Windows users, its only 99 and geared towards musicians

What's your opinion of the PRS with the piezo pickup?
That ending though 😄
