Acres Of Rust And Decay - Tour The Mopar Ranch Hidden In Western Washington!

  • On today's episode of Dead Dodge Garage, we've got more dead Dodges than ever before. It's cool, it's mildly depressing, it's everything in between - and there are cows. Some friends of the channel own a large cattle ranch, and they also happen to have a large collection of Mopars in varying states of decay. Over the years, I've spent a lot of time getting my hands dirty on the ranch reviving stuff, digging things out of the brush and just generally having fun with these relics. So enjoy a look at this interesting private collection - but don't ask if they're for sale.

    Why have all those cars if you aren't fixing them up and letting them rot to shit ....makes no sense!

    • @DeadDodgeGarage
      @DeadDodgeGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I agree. Over the years they have come to see things more our way on that front, and some have been sold in the interest of keeping and fixing the ones they really want. I more put the “NOTHING IS FOR SALE” warning at the beginning because I am not going to waste a thousand hours of my time on that. Exactly 0% of sale inquiries for parts or vehicles from my videos have resulted in a sale. It’s ridiculous.

      @@acardiac5983 It's sort of a complicated third option, really. A bit of the first crossed with a bit of the second, until he hit 70 and realized it was time to start letting some things go and finishing some projects. Unfortunately it was too late for many of the cars 20 years ago when they got there. He's a very friendly and personable guy who loves the cars and has a lot of dreams. In between maintaining the ranch and the rest of life, he hasn't exactly had enough time to see them to fruition. It's a story a lot of us can sympathize with.

    Back in the mid '70's my moms friend had a '68 Road Runner , blue ,bench seat ,auto ,she and her husband were moving to Hawaii ,so the woman left the RR at our house(she refused to sell the car) w/ the keys (probably a mistake) . So after my mom went to bingo and before my dad got home I would take the car out for a ride for a half hour or so,(no license yet) ,I loved that car . A couple of interesting things happened ,I didn't beat on it ,I just enjoyed driving it . I never owned a fraction of the cars I wanted , always a distraction or A.D.D. or it just slipped away or gave away ,like my '69 442 W30 4 spd .my buddy blew up the motor in . That's a nice rust farm you're friend has there , though .

    What a shame seeing these magnificent machines in such condition. I grew up in The 70s. I got my driver's license at 16 1/2 in 1974. I could never afford one but I got to be around these cars when they were only a few years old. I actually owned a 1969 sport satellite 383. Four speed duel exhaust car in 1977 it had a hard life before I bought it. Drove it for a few months then sold it due to having no money to fix it up.

    • @DeadDodgeGarage
      @DeadDodgeGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I pulled a ‘68 Sport Satellite out of one of the fields there. It was so cool… but so, so bad. The frame was bad when they bought it twenty years ago. The sad reality is, these cars were mostly undesirable (with some exceptions) and getting bad when they ended up there. When I saw the place the first time, I found it very cool but very depressing. My view has changed a bit over the years.

    There is this 69 or 70 Mustang fastback that sits on an outdoor post lift. The car has been there since the beginning of time and will only be vindicated when it falls in on itself like the Titanic is in the process of. I can understand collecting vintage cars as an asset yet in order to be viable that collection needs to be maintained to some degree otherwise it becomes a liability. The future of all these Mopars is this, ever heard of Cowboy Car Crushing on TH-cam? But this reduction will probably increase the value of examples still in existence.

    Such a shame! I don’t care if they are not restoring them, not selling them but letting them rot is the biggest disgrace. This is the mentality I just don’t understand.

    • @DeadDodgeGarage
      @DeadDodgeGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe I can help you understand. When the majority of these cars got there in the late 90s and early 2000s, they were essentially worthless. Most of them were already pretty rotten or stripped at that time. Barring a couple exceptions, there aren’t many rare or desirable models. Going to the ranch was a better fate than their other options. Now a lot of them are desirable, and people are mad about it. I have helped to sell some here and there and thin the herd. Viable projects come out of the bushes as possible and stuff starts happening. Unfortunately, many aren’t viable anymore - and haven’t been for years. We pulled a ‘68 Sport Satellite 383 car out of the field to start on. We found that the frame had rusted out decades ago, and someone had put in a 2x4 between the frame rail and axle housing to hold the body up on the driver side. There was hardly a usable piece of metal on the car. Yes, it was better when it got there - but not much. It was then sold to someone with dreams of replacing every panel on it. The owner of the property is in his 70s now, and has realized that it’s time to let some things go. The reason I said nothing is for sale is because I am not going to waste days of my life brokering purchases that never happen. Exactly 0% of the parts or project purchase offers that I’ve received through TH-cam have amounted to anything. It’s not worth the time. Hopefully this makes sense.

    well i have to be honest, from what i have seen the youth do to old cars I would rather see them sit right where they are than get built into the clown mobiles that modern restorers do to them. That is probably why those old guys won't sell anything. From what I have seen I can say without an ounce of exaggeration that Mopar did it best in the design dept. compared to modern amateur or professional car restorers. I had an AAR 'cuda most of my life. Bought it in 1973 and just sold it in 2021. When I put it up for sale I promised myself it would not let it get into the hands of some rich spoiled young brat that would have wiggered it all up to meet 21st century gen Y or Z style status so I waited....and finally a rich middle aged collector from Austalia contacted me and the deal was made. Sorry youngins' I would have never been able to live with myself if any of you would have gotten your hands on my 'cuda. Perhaps a bit greedy or selfish but did not want to see a best part of US history get ruined.... neither do any of these old car hoarders. An that is all I have to say about that.

      I understand the thinking. But I’m a younger guy myself and I much prefer these cars as the factory built them. I wouldn’t take age as the only important factor here.
