Tai is a very good friend of mine, I’ve seen his garage or should I call a gallery as every tank is a masterpiece! We used to be colleagues at Maidenhead Aquatics and have seen his hobby evolve into him becoming a freshwater biologist and releasing a book about the habitats he’s been too is just the icing on top. But the main things is he is just a great guy! 😎😎

A man after my own heart. I've been preaching biotopes to people for 35 years. Who remembers fish tanks with plastic treasure chests and sunken ships? Those are the stuff of nightmares. I wish you both were my neighbours. 🙂
I agree, hate those plastic ships, and skulls and treasure chesys and so on.
Tai has some of the best aquariums I've seen on TH-cam. I just really dig the natural jungle look.

20 years later and you still cant beat the ADA lights. When i was a kid and got my first job, i splurged myself and ordered two 250w ADA green HQI bulb.
I was lucky enough to bump into Tai just the other day in Aquarium Gardens... dream come true stuff, for sure: amazing guy.

Nice to see you doing a project with Tai. He’s the man when it comes to biotopes and fish in the wild. Great stuff.
Biotope - strictly speaking that would be a unique and functioning microbiological zone, so anywhere kinda stable. When you make a bowl of shrimp and plants, you have created a biotope - a unique and interdependent community of selfreproducing niches. And when you uproot them - you kill a unique biotope of unique individuals. That's why I kinda prefer when you preserve rather than when you just chuck something random together.
Not to take anything away from the profoundly insightful gentleman you are interviewing!

Tai is an amazing guy. I've been a long time subscriber. Biotypes are my favorite style of aquarium and I would watch his videos for inspiration. He has a couple of my all-time favorite aquariums that I still go back from time to time to view.

I remember the George Farmer video well. It was in the studio not the shed. I have watched every video going back to captioning and slo-mo sand pouring. The only video's I skipped were the snake one's. If George was in one of your shed's and I missed it, I'll be knackered. He did a trim and placed a java fern on the tip of a piece of driftwood, something I have done ever since watching that on every tank I have set up.

Wildwoods crews hill is the best freshwater aquarium 'shop' in the UK. It's basically a super store. Went there all the time when I was a kid and absolutely gutted I live on the other side of the country to it now. Carpeting Lily is easily my 'grail' plant.

I see this as a missed oppurtunity of introducing people into the biotope aspect of aquariums with an expert. I was lucky enough to see Tai speak in Chicago. He had loads of great information to share.

I enjoyed this one. I bet your wife would love something like that last plant only tall piece in the house. No livestock, nothing to feed, looks amazing! Helps the air quality in your house by 0.000001% so that isn't nothing... Just giving you ammo if you tried to debate making a terrarium in your kitchen.

Wondering if anyone knows anything about this; I have just planted a whole new aquarium with driftwood and it has been about a week since I put everything in water and the wood has started to grow a white fuzzy looking algae on it, should I be worried?
It's fungus. Snails and shrimps eat it.
