  • Cliffe Knechtle has a good dialogue with students at Texas State University. Recorded in October 2017.
    The "Give Me An Answer" ministry began as an outgrowth of the dialogues Cliffe Knechtle has had with students on various university campuses throughout the United States. These universities include the University of Maine, Harvard, MIT, University of Florida, University of Texas, University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, University of California Los Angeles, University of California San Diego, Berkeley, Stanford, University of Hawaii and the University of Washington. Cliffe spoke on these campuses in front of the Student Union or Library at noon for five to ten minutes. At the close of his initial remarks, he'd open up the time for questions and answers, which usually turned into a two to four hour dialogue with students. His crowd size ranged from 25 - 500 students at a time, and between classes, new students would join the discussion. This is an extremely effective way to reach a large number of university students with the Gospel of Christ.

    Cliffe is absolutely correct in saying we all have biases, as soon as we're born and able to comprehend things around us we all pick up personal biases, this is especially true if you happen to be born into an environment that already has deep cultural or religious biases. A child will adopt the same thoughts and beliefs as his or her parents. ie, if the parents are racists, there is a good chance the child will adopt the same views.

      bonnie43uk Just like if there born into an atheist home and told they evolved from a single celled orgaism. Fortunately I believe when were old enough we have enough intelligence to look at evidence and decide for ourselves what we choose to believe. But yes I agree we all have biases.

    • @bonnie43uk
      @bonnie43uk 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @ONESTEPAHEAD. Well, to be an atheist doesn't mean you have to believe in evolution ( most of us do, but it's not essential), an atheist could believe any number of things, the only thing all atheists have in common is a lack of belief in God. Good to agree with you about biases anyhoo :-) .. ( I am biased against Donald Trump, the man is a buffoon, a liar and a crook.. but that is just my own personal bias.. I'm sure a lot of decent Christians would agree with me)

    • @j2mfp78
      @j2mfp78 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      bonnie43uk well without God your morals are personal biases too but you cant seem to accept that I wonder why.

    • @bonnie43uk
      @bonnie43uk 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure if I would say my morals are personal biases, as small children we're all raised to know the difference between right and wrong/good and bad, it's what leads to a harmonious society if we can all get along, as we get older some of us struggle for any number of reasons to lead a happy life and we fall off the wagon as it were, some kids don't get the parental guidance they need at a crucial stage in life, and they end up going down the wrong path. You don't need a God to know right from wrong in my humble opinion.
      Imagine if you can, that God did not exist, .. do you think you would start raping and killing people?, if the answer is yes, then please, keep believing in God, if that is all that is stopping you from doing bad things then perhaps your mindset is such that you need to believe in God.

    • @j2mfp78
      @j2mfp78 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      bonnie43uk yes but who decided harmonious society is the way things "should" be. Why isn't that just a preference? I think it's great too but me and you dont create what the purpose of society is do we? You've told me many times how we learn from our parents and this and that but you really havent shown why it has to be that way. It doesn't. If there is no law maker except us then how can anyone say another idea of the way things should be is incorrect? How can you not u understand that. This argument DOES NOT prove God exist if this is what bothers you about it. If you grew up in a society of canabils would that make eating humans morally okay? I'm sure you will say no. So then there is a standard. And it isn't decided by us because if it was then if you were born in that society it would be ok but you know that it isn't. Right? Or would you say it's ok because that's the way they have defined morality. Like I've said before in any other case for something to be objectively true we would need to reference an outside unchanging standard. For example if we were talking about a chair I would point to the actual chair to justify my claims. Now I know morality isn't material so there are only 2 logical options I can think of when we talk about what is and isn't moral. Either people decide what is and isn't and in this this case it becomes a preference taste or bias. Or we believe it is grounded in an outside unchanging standard and therefore somethings are truly wrong regardless of what anyone thinks the same way in the chair example it is what it is regardless of what anyone thinks. If you believe somethings are objectively evil like murder you cant tell me it's something we came up with. You could say we discovered it just like mathematics and the laws of logic. But not that we created it.

    Thanks Cliffe. Another great video. You really connect with the crowd. I'm sure you've helped many people turn to Christ. In reading some of the comments below I'd like to add a comment of mine in relation to 2 points touched in the above video. First, I must interject on the assumption that you can't prove that the Bible is the word of God. Second, another Apostle write about Jesus, Peter. It is also strongly believed that Paul saw Jesus before His crucifixion. We also know that Luke interviewed eyewitnesses; there's no reason to doubt that some of those might have been other apostles. Even some Jewish sources mentioned Jesus: they just believed that some of His miracles were staged, fake or misinterpreted. One comment below suggests that you can't prove that prophets were inspired because anyone can guess something today that could turn out to be true tomorrow. Of course I might be able to guess the result of next week soccer match. Yet many individuals have called themselves "prophets" see Muhammad, Joseph Smith etc. but after attentive analysis we discover that they were just guesses: a few of them turned out to be true while others were wrong but most of all these "prophecies" did not meet the requirements of prophecy. Prophecies are very specific: a prophecy must be about God or God's plan, it usually takes place many years after the prophet is passed away. Muhammad is believed to have prophesied once: unfortunately only 75% of it came true and he was still alive. It related to the Byzantine army. Muhammad probably weighed the odds of this army winning or losing as you'd do for next week match. A prophet must be 100% right 100% of the time. The 2 schools of thought in Christian circles are that 1) the Bible maintains the main doctrines but it's not 100% correct, 2) the Bible is the perfect inspired preserved Word of God. In the Bible God tells us that He has preserved His words. I'd like to ask any Christian out there who belongs to the very first group: a) Why would God inspire His words but not preserve them? b) Did God lie when He said that He would preserve them? c) If the Bible is not 100% the word of God, how can you prove that any part in it is correct? Isn't it amazing that you could say, see below comments, that Jesus died and resurrected 3 days later but then also say that some other parts of the Bible are corrupted? I believe that the Bible is the perfect, inspired, infallible, preserved words of God. Remember, nothing else can prove the existence of God if it is not from God. Can you really win souls to Christ if at the same time you doubt your very own Bible?

    A true atheist invariably has the capacity to be real. And if we are going to be really real, we have to admit that if God actually does exist, then hey, we ain’t nothing compare to Him.
    The weak atheist not the strong atheist, will, at this juncture, do double back flips, trying to avoid this reality, if God indeed exists.
    Atheism solves this great inferiority problem, hence its appeal.
    If God exists, who has supposedly created everything, then hey, He has some real greatness huh. But that greatness, obviously diminishes our greatness doesn’t it.
    Why?
    Because we don’t even begin to compare with it. Therefore our greatness or worthwhile-ness is so insignificant compared to His greatness, that we can’t feel as proud of ourselves, as much as we’d like to, because God is so much greater.
    Get it? His greatness diminishes our greatness.
    But when we remove Him out of the picture and say hey He ain’t there, He doesn’t exist, we start feeling pretty good about ourselves without the big guy raining on our parade. That’s the real deal.
    But hey, the truth is that He does exist. Although you can feel good and start to swell when you pretend He ain’t there. Because actually it’s a pretence. A subtle form of pretension.
    But the bummer is that yep you’ll feel good alright being an atheist but hey it all ends bad. Nope it’s not going to be good at all. Heaven and hell and all that jazz.
    Reject God, He rejects you.
    God knows we have this inferiority problem. Right?It’s not rocket science.
    Wanna talk about it some more then give me a yell and I’ll say some more.

    I know and understand micro and macro evolution. Please don't tell me I don't. Now, 1 thing I know is that evolution does not make us a *person* or *human being.* When an atheist wants to debate me that he is an animal I usually do not engage. No point in engaging in debate with an animal (animal he is not according to me, according to him). Am I right? Or wrong?

    If you decide on what is truth without a way to explain what is truth your in trouble. I don't care if we came from apes, explain why or shut up and doubt God and face the truth, because one day you will, your ignorance will not protect you when your convicted of the truth and are aware of what you've lost, how you will pay and how you will never exist again and your ignorance will not comfort you because you will be given truth so that you die aware and unable to except that which you can not die in ignorance from, instead you will die fully aware of that which you hid from in your pride. Death will be 3 times as worse and empty as those you have done evil toward.

      Cliffe mentioned the horrors that black people went through hundreds of years ago via the whole slavery issue. Why couldn't Jesus have made it expressly clear so that nobody would be in any doubt whatsoever that treating people of a different color was an abomination in the sight of God. As far as I'm aware he says absolutely nothing about racism, nor does he say anything about the wrongness of owning another person as your property, or the wrongness of treating them as animals. He could have said a lot on how mankind should treat others of a different skin color or ethnicity, ..maybe, just maybe had those words been in the Bible, the slavery issue would not have occurred. Or at the very least, we would have Jesus's thoughts on things like slavery and the torturing of people who looked different to us.

    • @j2mfp78

      bonnie43uk You really think people do bad things because Jesus didn't make it clear enough? People have free will and will do whatever they choose.

    • @bonnie43uk
      @bonnie43uk 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @ONESTEPAHEAD, well, what was the point of Jesus saying anything then? according to you people have free will and do whatever they choose. That's a very simplistic answer. Wasn't Jesus supposed to be a great communicator and speaker?, if that was the case, why not tell people his thoughts on slavery, racism, homosexuality, and go into detail about why those things are wrong, and explain the consequences. According to Christianity, God sent Jesus down on a mission to save humanity, would it not make sense to you if the words written in the New Testament actually came directly from Jesus's own hand, so he could tell us in his own words why he was here and what he wanted of us. Look at all the different denominations of Christianity, people have hundreds of opinions concerning what Jesus actually meant when he said the things he did.

      @Onestepahead, you ask a reasonable question my friend. I'm sure I've mentioned to you in previous conversations I find these discussions quite stimulating, it's a subject that is close to my heart being raised into the Christian faith and never really feeling comfortable with what it was I was being asked to believe, as individuals, we can't help being interested in certain subjects, religion/God/meaning and purpose is something that I think about a lot, maybe I'm just as passionate as Cliffe is, but from a different angle. No one is forced to chat with me if they don't want to. I've never told Christians "you are wrong", they are absolutely free to believe anything they wish. I've always said if Christianity works for you, to embrace it, and I sincerely mean that. I'd like to think I've always been open and honest with everyone I chat to. I don't think Cliffe Knechtle minds me asking questions about Christianity, after all, what is the name of his channel? Ask Cliffe. The clue is in the name :-)

    Cliffe is way, way to open to nonsense like evolution, big bang and other stupid stuff like that. Why? I dont get it.
    Btw that girl in the video really angered me. "God loves me." How on earth do you know that!? Where did you get the idea like that from? Everybody goes around saying "God loves me." Who is going to Hell then? If God loves everyone, who is going to Hell? Jesus Christ says that the vast majority of mankind will end up in Hell, which means God does not love them. People are hearing way to much of this "God loves you" crap. If you are not a part of the church of Christ, if you are not part of the covenant of promise made to Abraham, God does not love you. If you are outside of the covenant you are a wicked sinner in rebellion against God and you are his enemy, and he does not love you. If you stay in that state of sin and rebellion, God will be your Judge, jury and executioner not your Savior.
    "The foolish shall not stand in your sight: you HATE all workers of iniquity." Psalm 5;5
