  • Need some more space on your desk? We built a solution!
The 011 dynamic fits perfectly in an Ikea Alex Drawer with space left for an active exhaust, rear IO and intake. Super happy with how everything turned out.

Little tip for cutting holes in melamine to prevent blowout. Use blue painters tape to cover the hole saws entry and exit. This holds it together as the saw passes through the board preventing it from splintering.

will keep that in mind, thanks for the tip!

Also helps if you drill trough half the hole and then go at it from the other side, long as you have a bit with a regular drill in the middle (not sure how its called)

Just an idea: keep one drawer guide on the right side and attach the white gap closer to it. That way you can reach over it when the top drawer is extended and just slide it out.

Awesome build idea to put the Lian Li 011D in there! I do have 2 things I would change though:
    1) The vent item is rad, but also runs at 12V 6W (so 0.5A although I'm sure it goes a tad higher in fluctuation). You could find/make an adapter to power it from the PC itself, saving a hole in the back and another powerbrick on the surge strip.
    2) Instead of cutting the intake holes on the side and having to create a wood strip on the front to fill the gap next to the PC, you could create a vent panel to fill that gap. The thickness of the gap and being the full height of the case would be plenty for intake airflow, plus you save yourself having to cut the side of the cabinet. And it allows the cabinet to be placed against a wall or have something else on that side.

Great points on both ends! Would love to see a build with amendments made 👀

Awesome build! Would you be able to link the backplate adapter you used for the power cable too?
Also, something to consider, but the extra piece used on the right of the case could likely be attached using simple hinges - this would make the tower a little more accessible.

I've done quite the same thing but to put in my laptop. It actually improved performance, laptop gets fresh air as it sits close to the ground, and it makes far less noise since it's in a drawer. Saved a lot of space on the desk. It's well-worth it.

Just out of curiosity, wouldn’t you be better off just building a water cooled PC in the Alex drawer? You could attach the mobo to the drawer rail and it would actually slide out if needed, and the cost of the case could get you pretty close to the cost of a custom loop or very large AIO

Why does the thumbnail have a pic of a guy holding a drill with a 2 1/2” - 3” hole saw bit photoshopped onto the end of it at an angle which isn’t even possible. And I doubt that drill can ever power a bit that big to realistically drill through anything. And what would you need that for to assemble a computer?
