    The legend Guro Inosanto. I train with this man every year... truly a student of students and a teacher of teachers. I am proud to call him my instructor.

    Gene LeBell trained with the Machado Brothers for 12 years. The Machado Brothers said Gene LeBell already knew their system of Brazilian Jui-Jitsu before he met them because Gene LeBell had practiced Kosen Judo that did mostly ground grappling.

      Eh.. maybe not, Bruce didn’t think much about ground fighting and he certainly didn’t think using it in a real world situation was safe.

      @@benevolentessence8809 gotta appeal to the masses. Not saying he didn’t know it, but for practicality I don’t think he really thought is was a smart thing to use in a real fight. Of course, depends where it happens

    It was Gene LeBell who taught Bruce Lee grappling. Larry Hartsell said thank God Gene LeBell taught Bruce Lee grappling. Larry Hartsell also trained with Gokor Gene LeBell's best student.

    I was lucky enough to go to 2 of Dans, Larry Hartsell, and Master Chai's seminars back in 89 it was worth every cent I also have some of there video's, guy's if you can go don't think twice one tip: take a large note book and pen your gonna need it. He has an endless amount of information. His video's are good to retain a lot of it I want to try to catch JJ Machado next year.

    JKD is a philosophy more than a martial art: Use what works, discard what doesn't.
    This could be even more direct: Use what works FOR YOU, discard what doesn't work FOR YOU.
    By breaking down fighting into four ranges (kicking, punching, trapping, grappling) and pointing out that "classical systems" tend to focus on only one or two ranges, Lee highlighted the weakness of then-current martial arts. People tend to forget that he was dealing with 1970's martial arts schools that were mired in the "classical mess" and refused to cross-train.
    Lee died too soon. Had he lived, he would have readily adopted MMA as the true form of what he was trying to express with JKD.

    I think one of the most effective arts is BJJ. It works and its deadly,Bruce lee understod that u need to take the effectivenes from every art and not stay with one. He invented Jeet kwon do- where he combaines movment from boxing, Kung fu and deffence from wing chung. It is amistake to think that wing chung was his main art. I think that if bruce lee would have knowned about BJJ he would have studied it and put it in Jeet kwon do. Because he always looked for new stuff. and Dan does the same. He understod that although he is great in kicks and punches- He need to learn Bjj to become a more complete -All around fighter in my opnion.

      The stance in JDK comes from Fencing, not boxing.

    • @samuraisteve2775
      @samuraisteve2775 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BloodofPatriots That is not true. You are now taking little bits of what you read and adding to it. I am one of Guro’s certified Instructors. It was The Five Ways of Attack that was molded by the fencing concepts, in addition to the strong side forward. The physical expression is not fencing, as that style is completely linear.
      Your welcome for the Free Private Lesson and correction. Stay In Your Lane. You are clearly not a subject matter expert or train JKD.

    • @samuraisteve2775

      Just like the guy who commented here, stay in your lane. You clearly just read and have never trained with a legitimate Instructor.
      Jeet KWON Do? Seriously? You can’t even spell it correctly.

  • @superstrangevideo

    Try listening to the video people. He said he likes BJJ to stay in shape. He said nothing about learning more techniques to clobber someone. Grappling was not invented in the 80's, Bruce Lee knew and trained with several grapplers. He just wasn't that interested in it, at the time, but he he did know some grappling.

    • @efisgpr
      @efisgpr 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gene LaBelle said he "trained with me for a year and he became a great grappler". That's a big compliment coming from Gene, in my opinion.
      Made me think Bruce probably knew lots about grappling too.
