Hey ben. The motherboard at 14:45 was a Gigabyte Ultra Durable 3. Its worth about 150+ USD. The slotcard was a Gigabyte 750ti GPU. Worth about 50+ dollars. Just a heads up, because there was lots of value there before you threw it in the bin. Many electronics when not connected to a power source like motherboards and possibly GPUs can survive water damage. Even though it rained, those probably would have been in working condition. Please in the future when you see stuff that is new or doesn't look old, put it in the left seat and research it later. 200 USD/270 AUD is way more than anything you'll get just from scrapping them.

He ain't going to fix bikes for kids, and he ain't going to keep all this junk in a warehouse for weeks to try to get a couple extra bucks. He sees it, he scraps it.. and he moves on with his day. I like it.
My father has always been a big part time scrapper, he would bring loads of scraps home to separate the metals for his runs to the scrapyard, The up side to that was, there would always be piles of spare parts to fix just about anything you can think of, and even now in his 80ies he just as bad with scrapping, a metal pack rat of sorts one might say lol , but I never really understood why he would do that till this year, due to the fact i've been spending more time with him making sure he doesn't hurt himself, and here I am relaxing at home watching a stranger from another country scrapping lol Ironic isn't it. i guess a scrapper one day is a scrapper for life.

My Dad passed away and I knew he had some Brass. We had to dig 6 inches down but found his treasure. Lots of 20-40 pound bars. His Estate got a $1,000( U.S.) to pay off bills. May 2019 will be 8 years since his passing. I miss him every day.

I'm retiring, thinking of scrapping as a way of staying active. Thinking of using a utility trailer, with 6 or so, 55 gallon plastic barrels. Sort as I pick. Haven't seen anyone on here doing this, not worth the effort, too much time????
The competition is fierce when you're out there, well in Perth anyway but I assume it is in other states. You have to hustle and sorting when you're out wastes valuable time. IMO it actually costs you money because while you're standing there sorting your stuff, 30 other scrappers will go by and clean out the stuff in front of you, where if you just hurl your stuff in and move on, you can give yourself a better chance of finding more. You'll figure that out yourself. You snooze you lose in this game lol The exception is large stuff, you know ripping motors out of fridges etc obviously you don't want to take the whole fridge 😂 This is just my opinion of course
Here in San Antonio, Tx, the scrappers go around to the apartment complexes to pick up the old appliances that the maintenance guys pull out from the apartments when they do replacements. And stuff that tenants who sneak out in the middle of the night. They come around to check every week and always come away with a good haul.

Looks like a bit too complicated to try sell the motors and many actually have aluminium windings that look like copper so most i'll probably just sell as scrap motors, keep a few of the bigger one's and all the smart drives are good to keep
Hey Ben, Why didn't you keep the Orange cart? I think with your new welder you could have made it into your new pick up cart when you do schools and such. You could have taken brackets off the dolly's and welded them to the cart and put bigger wheels on it. It would have been perfect for one trip flat screen monitor pick ups... You had said in one of your videos that's what you would have liked to do... Another great video Ben, If I had a way to Australia I would show you how to work the stick welder if you don't already know...LOL!
good stuff fella, The UK you have to have a permit now, so not everyone can go about picking up scrap metal, Not sure on electronics but those just go down to the local tips. It would be good to start off E scrapping.
Go easy on me, I'm from the UK, so people just leave all their crap on the side of the road in Aus? Do people put it out for the garbage guys on certain days and you can just pick through it before its collected? Just seems mad to me as its not something that's done here so I'm just wondering.
Tristan King think of it like this, if it was free as in scrap then it's like money in the bank, in some of Ben's previous vids he explains why he doesn't sell everything he salvages, money for the future. If the price goes down then wait. I haven't sold any of my non ferrous in over a year. I depopulate almost all my boards. Sell your shred as you can get a load, not much value but it's plentiful.
I'm just now learning about scrapping but I'm a bit confused, while at the scrap yard you chucked some aluminium back in your van and said you're keeping it because it's good, but took the extruded aluminium in with the mixed iron-alloy.. From watching scrapping video's so far I thought the extruded aluminium is some of the best aluminium?? So I'm confused why you took the extruded in with the mixed batch, but kept those bits in the van?

Was a bit confused for a second as I was hearing that extruded is decent.. Yeah, that exhaust pipe with the catalytic converter looked brand new and it costs more than even as a scrap steel with all that platinum cells inside of it.
just like any biz' but there's a loophole kinda thing, if it's your hobby then you won't have to pay tax unless your your taking in over $300 scrap at a time, keep it under and keep it a hobby and your ok

I have 2 question to ask the first is tax is that included at the yard and the second is if went to the yard just for scrap steal and went to the steal area and found copper in that area is it OK for me to put that in my van? you won't find copper but if there was a piece on the ground I guess you could take it but the yard guys normally pick out good stuff before you can drop off in that spot, every yard is different, some let people scrap things out completely, check you yard first, no tax under $300
The best in Melbourne, Pacific Metals, best prices, friendly guys and the guy in non-ferrous (Navi) know's his stuff, he can tell a metal just looking once, there's no tricking him and he's fast
eWaste Ben thanks mate for the quick reply. 15 c for steel is the best I’ve seen in a while. Do you ever get 40-50 c per kilo for Irony Ali. I get that usually at Port Melbourne Metals or Global Scrap Metal in Springvale. I note that you had “low grade Irony Ali” on your ticket so that might be why it was only 25c . Cheers mate. Not sure how irony ally works, I don't do a lot of it but it does seem a little low, next time I might have to pull them up on it but overall they are mostly best prices we can get, some weeks steel is 16c kg
eWaste Ben exactly. Each scrapyard will have its pros and cons. Go to them for steel 15-16c is awesome. Those places I mentioned might give you 10c for steel if you are lucky but generally will not pay for quantities under 1 tonne . Store your dirty Ali for some other place and you have your ewaste buyer as well for boards.
Prices in Perth have dropped badly, as if they weren't low enough already. Insulated wire down to as low as $1 kg. Not even worth selling it. I'm gonna become a stripper lol 😉 Heavy gauge steel hasn't dropped much purely because it had nowhere to go, dropped price would have been zero 😁 All the scrap yards here are run by dodgy/dishonest people, still haven't found one that hasn't lied and tried to rip me off. I wonder if it's just because I'm a woman and they think I'm stupid 👎 Not bothering with heavy gauge anymore, will strip my wire and just do brass and copper, still one or two yards offering reasonable prices for those

That expression "For every rat you see, there's fifty you don't" - thanks Dr Phil 😄 - when they flat out lie to your face, as an example by misidentifying metals (in their favour of course), sometimes I don't say anything but they've lost my trust. One young Mummy's boy told me brass was aluminium, the exact same drawer latches he had given me brass price for before, and I knew they were brass anyway. I act dumb but I'm not as dumb as I look 😉 just testing them 😎

Thats a good price for scrap steel. In Taree NSW they only pay 4.5c /kg. Took 520kg & only got approx $23.
Only get 6c at my yard in Perth so don't even bother picking it up. I make a lot more money from stuff I sell

Did the yard say anything about the chain-link mesh? I've heard that some yards won't accept it because it can clog up the shredders downstream.
They compress it into a small bale, they accepted it with open arms, they even paid me 15c kg for it :)

I kept the clean extruded and threw out the irony extruded, anything with steel screws etc is irony ally
