    This is pretty darn good. The 237 reference is interesting. So, does that mean there are 3 female characters in Room 237: Young naked lady, old naked lady and Wendy? Also worth noting is that Joanne Woodward plays the psychiatrist in Sybil with Sally Field. That movie was released in 1976.

      I do know that the movie Sybil made the girl "Eve" come out and write the book "I'm Eve" which supposed to bring all the dirt from her Psychologists as well as she wasn't really cured. I have not read the book, but the book was made in 1977 and I cannot see why Stanley didn't use anything from the book. I'll try to get a copy of the book after Christmas. (unless my wife got me a copy) LOL

    Nunnally Johnson wrote house of rothschild (1934) Boris karloff who Nicholson took checking off his lines in scripts as seen in the making of the shinning is in the movie. Some connections to think about.

      Thanks I'll have to look into House of Rothschild. I remember reading that he was a newspaper writer/reporter and he started writing movie scripts in the 1920s and decided to move to Hollywood because he didn't like how his script was made into a movie.

      @@GenerateGoodInformation yeah I get the point. There are way too many films I want to watch but just cannot get into them.
      Im not sure Nunnally Johnson power of influence as a writer compared to him as the producer and director. That's why I watched Night People (since it was his first movie he directed). I didn't see any special with Night People. The movie seemed hand tied because the context of the movie seem to need more show then tell. The movie was mostly tell us what happened instead of showing. Hard to feel sympathetic to characters that we never saw and murdered off screen, but this event was important to the main character.

    19:05 To me, the old lady's hair looks kind of like Danny's hair, in this shot. 21:28 Good job summing it all up, the evidence is that Kubrick was using this movie as a formula.

    • @tankardoftales4645
      @tankardoftales4645  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks. I think Kubrick is using a technique called Mere-exposure effect or familiarity principle which is common with advertising. You can see this in many of his films. The Shining seems to be loaded with reference to Psychological drama and horror. 3 Faces of Eve has many things connected to the Shining. Intresting find is 3 Faces of Eve shows signs that the movie is also being told by an unreliable narrator, especially with the doctors. My assumption is the director, Nunnally Johnson, might know something about the doctors he didn't want to tell publicly. I believe the real Eve wrote a book in the 1970s (after Sybil) and she told how the doctors took advantage of her. I dont have the book to verify my findings.

    I mostly don't have any arguments with your observations. I want to say a cigar used to be very famous as an example of the way Sigmund Freud thought everything was about sex and phallic symbols. He smoked cigars all the time, and somebody pointed out to him, hey that's a phallic symbol, isn't it? And Freud said, "No, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar." Also, I believe the psychology "explained" in old movies about psychiatrists was always goofy, made up stuff. Not just in this one. And I never believe movies when they say this is an old tradition, and this is why people do it. It might be true, it might not.

    • @tankardoftales4645
      @tankardoftales4645  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks and I'm always open to learn new stuff. The cigar seemed to have a phallic symbol since Bill Clinton... lol. I'm not sure with Sigmund Freud, I can believe the cigar "phallic symbol" during his times and even older.
      I'm not 100% sure about the motive of the moving ashtrays in 3 faces of Eve. My hunch is telling me the ashtray moved on the newspapers was done to highlight the papers.

    Since you mention the oven with dials in the wrong place, I never noticed that, but I always thought the apartment was set up in an impossible way, with the couch facing the kitchen sink. One wall of the living room is the kitchen.

    • @tankardoftales4645
      @tankardoftales4645  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've spent way way too much time watching and rewatching the apartment. If Wendy was crazy then we would see continuity differences in the apartment.
      The oven is odd. Now this type of oven does exist. But the model was designed for wall and above cabinets level. Some people have bought two of these wall mount ovens and we got knobs by the floor. It's rare I guess. I think the practical use is dumb because the person using the Oven needs to bend or kneel to the floor. Also, if you have toddlers - they would play with the knobs. I'm not sure what psycho would install this oven on the floor.
      The apartment makes this oven extremely weird. This wall mount is installed in a cabinet. The vents to these ovens are on top, so this oven is non functional.
      I also think the placement of the door, the knobs and the space off the floor. All on purpose because the oven could resemble a TV.
      And I think this oven is a TV and we see it as an oven because the narrator wants us to believe a kitchen is behind Wendy.
      Odd?
      Another odd thing in the apartment is the windows. The bathroom and Danny bedroom the windows are basement level. The front room windows is floor level. Also these windows coming from 3 different areas. So two of these windows are impossible.
      I know I need to make a video about the apartment. 😀
