My Dad was an expert whiting fisherman (according to all his mates; he's just about to turn 92) and he grew up at Coolangatta in the 30's. He specialized in whiting because he recognized that pound for pound they are the best fighting fish in the ocean. Elbow slappers are awesome and the legendary blue nosed whiting that Dad and Granddad caught in the Tweed River reached 3-4 lb's. That's a whiting for northern parts of Australia. They caught them on soldier crabs of all things. Great stories. Flathead and whiting are my favourite fish to eat of the bread and butter species in that order. How blessed are we.

Great session. I have written to you in the past about going to Wooyoung Beach near Pottsville.
We have 2 x 3piece roods and 2 x 30 size reels courtesy of Fishing World. They are kept in the boot of the car.
We fish 6-8 lb line although my wife has an ultra thin 12lb Siglon line.
We do what you do, but buy our worms as we are a bit past it to catch them
We catch plenty of good whiting and bream but can give the dart a miss!
I just use a ball sinker although I have star sinkers but they aren't in the boot.( I'll have to work out a way to get them into the boot!!
My tackle box is a 5 compartment tray, with No 4 long shank Gamakatsu and 1/0 JW Bait keeper hooks, No. 3& 4 sinkers and No 10 swivels.
It's a great way to spend a few hours
You just don't need 30lb line for ordinary fish, do you.
It's a bit long winded but I just wanted to share our story, much like yours.
    Thanks Roger.

Another masterclass roger. Yes the grubs leave rubbish at our fishing spots also, usually take away a couple of garbage bags of litter, every visit. Many places get locked and closed down thanks to the grubs.

Thanks Roger-after fishing round Ulladulla on holidays for years, mainly from boats, I’d never caught whiting from the surf beach ( had caught plenty of other species) watched a couple of your videos went down late this morning at Racecourse beach, a time I wouldn’t normally fish - tide on the way out- moved around the beach a bit and we are having whiting for dinner tonight!! Really enjoy your videos, thank you

Hi Roger, Jim in the states here. What you call ultralight, we call medium action. My ultralight rigs are around 5 feet long, tiny spinning reels and usually 4 pound test mono. I found an excellent place to catch Whiting on the back side of Pelican Island, just off the Gulf of Mexico.

    • @NpgSymboL
      @NpgSymboL 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

Officially ultra light in australia is something like my daiwa td black capnrisky with my td black 2000 shallow spool reel & 4lb line. My ultralight rod is 1-3kg with a cast weight of 0.5-6grams. I think Roger was just speaking and saying it’s a lot lighter compared to what he usually uses, I don’t think it was the official category he was calling out. Cheers

Fishing for whiting is a Very fun experience specialty for first-timers and kids
I’ve been thinking of it for a while by now to go fishing for whiting
Here where I live from Oct to Dec is the season for whiting specialty 3/4 days after raining
The species we have here won't grow that big like Australia
I absolutely enjoyed watching you catching those little delicious bastards .
Thank you for sharing Mr. Orborne

Roger, great video! Have you tried fishing with the really light braided line with about 2 ft of fluorocarbon leader? You can have a similar experience but have a lot more sensitivity without the stretch you get with monofilament line. Give it a try...I think you will like it!
