  • In this video, I give a tour of the setup I use to tow my 2005 Honda Rancher 350 around with my 2014 Mazda 3 Hatchback. I have driven over 5 hours away, at 75+ MPH with no issues. With a few modifications, these cheap trailers can work and tow great!

    When I bought my 2015 the first thing I noticed was how high the stock suspension sits. It’s almost like Mazda knows exactly what they’re building with their small sedans. They know how to get the most out of small packages over there and I love it.

      I'm looking for how to tie it down as I have to tow it for 300 miles each way and...I have seen SO many different opinions. Strap the tires...don't strap the tires, it'll slip. Strap the frame, don't strap the frame, it'll mess with the transmission. Put it in Neutral and put the emergency brake on...put it in neutral, if it's in park, it'll impact the gears. Use your winch, don't use your winch, it'll F-up the gearbox in there as well!
      I bought a similar trailer, 4.5X8 for a Polaris 570.
      LOL...I just spent 13K on this thing(~6 more than I wanted to), I have a 5-year warranty....it just doesn't cover rolling it or...it falling off a trailer(shouldn't actually be a problem with the gate, but certainly don't want it coming loose).

    Does the trailer have active breaking? If not, do you encounter issues with that? Reason I ask is I am considering a similar solution for towing a mini jeep with a Chevy Sonic, but my hesitation is weight and also not quite knowing if I should opt for a basic trailer or something fancier with active breaking.

    • @wrenchandrip

      The trailer does not have brakes of its own, but I haven’t had any issues with that. You should be fine towing something relatively light (under 1500 pounds or so. Think of it this way… if you loaded up the car with 4 big dudes you would be hauling close to 1000 pounds already LOL

    • @wrenchandrip
      @wrenchandrip  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would get the lightest trailer you can that will fit what you need, that way you have more towing capacity left for the cargo. An aluminum trailer would be the best probably. As for a mower, any mower should be well within towing capacity. Hope that helps!

      Your tow rating is only as strong as your weakest link. In this case your limit would be the car, 1250lbs. My car is rated for 2000lbs, but the trailer with quad only weighs about 1000lbs. That being said, people tow over their limits all the time, just have to remember to drive carefully!

You do not have a transmission cooler on that vehicle, it's just the reservoir with the transmission fluid in it as a heat sink I do believe. If you don't have a tow package from the factory that is most likely the case for sure.. you need to be very careful about overheating your transmission fluid because that can cause all type of damage in your vehicle. Transmission fluid is not a lifetime thing and you can quite literally burn it up by making it too hot. Good luck
