My 2022 Goldwing emergency codes didn't come with the bike when I purchased it from a private seller. I went to three different Honda dealers to see if I could purchase the two codes. Each dealer told me they couldn't be duplicated. I wrote Honda corporate who were helpful. They required a photo copy of the owners papers along with a copy of my drivers license. After a few days they sent me the codes that were assigned to the bike.
I practiced on my 2018 several times to be sure I could perform it without any problems. The only thing that I did different was removing the plastic piece, I found that lifting it from the middle instead of the end using a flat screw driver it popped off a little easier. Good vid and I think everyone should try this before it is necessary. It is much easier once you are familiar with the procedure, keep up the good work and ride safe
What a great and informative video. I just bought my Goldwing 4 months ago and 3,000 miles later it happened to me right when I got off work I tried to start it and it was dead I looked up this video on TH-cam and did it on my second try thank you !
It is a good idea to review this procedure every so often, because it will help you remember what to do if the key fob battery dies while you're on a ride. Also, I had a picture of my code on my phone but I got a new phone and never took another picture of it. Some simple steps to keep you from being stranded. Thanks for the video.
Taking a picture of your unlock code and it's QR code is a good idea. I also make an entry in my phonebook with the name 'Goldwing', and enter that unlock code in a phone number field. I see that others here can get that keyhole cover off by lifting it at its bottom center with their fingertips. I do that as well. Also, remember that you get a spare key. I like to hide it on the bike in case I've lost my key fob. Some tape it to the inside of the keyhole cover. Don't look for it there on my bike, though.
Sounds complicated, but it really is pretty easy to do. Just try it at home a few times to get used to the sequence in case you ever need to do it out on the road some place. Thanks for providing the video for 2018+ Goldwing owners.
I keep a wrapped spare fob battery in the perfect void inside the windscreen mounting spar. You can release the button clip with a matchstick. Try that before all the complicated stuff.
Thanks for the instructions. I was able to start the bike. I replace the batteries from the key fob and put a new battery in the motorcycle. But now it’s doing the same thing. What causes it?
Its good that its complicated and requires things unique to each bike. That way people can't just walk up to any goldwing, start it using the emergency procedure, and drive away. And if the Fob is dead, how does the bike know its there?
@@Sciguy95 You cannot start the BMW without the key. The bike recognizes the transponder, even without power, based on the very specific proximity of the key itself. You'd have to ask BMW Customer Service how it works, but it does work, I've seen it done.
Hi, i was able to use the tip of the emergency key to remove the plastic piece. I put it where the brake light meets the plastic “door” closest to where the keyhole is located. I think that’s why it has a fireman’s axe type look to it. And you can use your fingernail to press the button to get the key out of the fob so it can be done without tools. :-)
Everything just _has_ to be keyless these days it seems. Even though, you will still use a actual key as the backup. A electronic key-fob for a motorcycle... nothing wrong could go there, I'm sure. Yes, let's enter a some tedious number sequence. Nope, can't use the hidden key to actually start the bike... that would've been too convenient.
@@MetallicBlade: Well, it *does* prevent a thief from using that "hidden" key (that everyone hides in the same exact place) to ride off with your motorcycle...

@@cruisemansgarage: In Honda's case, I would imagine they wanted each fob (not each bike!) to have a unique code. Given the anticipated worldwide production run of the bike (4 years and counting...), a 9-digit code seems about right. Hi Cruiseman. I’m taking a trip this summer so thought I’d give this a try. I turned off my key fobs and put them in the house. I opened the doors with the key but got no beep when I held down the start button for 4-40 seconds. Any ideas? Oh I did install a brake light flashing thing last fall. Maybe that is messing with it?
Great video, thank you. Going to practice after work today. My rule of thumb is....replace the batt every 6 months. They are very cheap. Unless you loose the key fob LOL.
Any recommendations for us trike riders as we don't have saddlebags. The left siddlebag circuit is used to open the rear trunk but what about the right side? Is having the saddlebags open a required part of using this emergency start procedure.
Hi I hope you are doing great I did try emergency start and it works fine with me, however after I use the emergency start my bike could not go back to normal and it only can start with an emergency method is there any way I can fix it this problem and reactivate the electrical start?

Quick questions: Once the engine is started, can I open the top box or glove box lid to access the fuel cap? If I shut off the engine by rotating the ignition switch clockwise (going to accessory mode), can I restart without re-entering the code again?
Once the electrical system is activated, you can do whatever... until you shut the bike off. At that point, the bike is dead until you perform the entire procedure again. At least, I haven't found anything that you *couldn't* do... My advice is to make it easy on yourself - once the motorcycle has been started, ride it to the local drug store, shut it down there, then go in, buy a fresh battery (plus a spare), install it in the fob, then start the bike normally and go about your business.
