The thing you said about being physically in pain because stress and anxiety :( Soooo real! I got back into uni this year, I'm 35 and it was my dream to do a PhD and being an academic.
I love doing research but the academic environment is so toxic, all those sick power dynamics are really something I can't being sucked up into.

Same! I used to have the worst stomach pain in Uni. After graduation, went away. I'm going back for my doctorate soon!

Great said, Bianca! The relationship between science and academia is like the relationship between faith and cult. So, no regrets. I’m sure you thrive now.

Yea, most people are telling me not to get a PhD. I'd wait until your 50's ,60s. Some people do it as a badge of honor, but that shouldn't be the case.

Everything you expressed in your video is the same thing I'm dealing with currently. Experiencing all forms of gaslighting and intellectual hazing. I may have to take a step back. I've experienced anxiety and stress etc.

A doctoral studies program is not for everybody. If you found it wasn't for you, you were smart to let it go.

When people say they got a PhD in anything outside of the medical field it just says to me “I paid $100k to say I’m smarter than everybody without ever having to prove it”

Why? I mean a lot can be scientifically proven outside of medicine. Also PhDs are usually paid to do it and don't have to pay.

@@itm1996 bc you are wasting time and digging a financial hole for yourself. It’s that simple

I’m in a fully funded program as are most people who are getting PhDs. That means my tuition, health insurance, etc. is paid for… in fact, they PAY ME. So your prejudgment on people with PhDs is actually coming from a place of ignorance.

@@la_estudiante no it’s actually not. Let me simplify my point for you: The degree is so worthless, they have to pay you to get it. When you finally do get it, you are 35 years old with no work experience, holding a degree that is not useful in the market. The people at the university promised you well paying jobs but in reality you will struggle to find a job bc all you know how to do is sit in a classroom. Meanwhile, the rest of us who didn’t go to grad school have been making 100k, developing in-demand skills, building work experience, buying assets, etc, for the past 6 years while you were drinking coffee and typing research papers that no one will ever care about. But yeah here is your pat on the back !! Loser

@@brydawg2020 yeah, your comment again reeks of ignorance. This time I’ll just leave it at that. Dueces!
