This car is SOOOOO popular for teens and and college students. It's actually a pretty decent car, and comes at reasonable price, so I can see why parents would get it for their children.
I just bought a 2017 Cruze and I am in love with it. It's perfectly equipped and has great build quality considering it's only a $20k car. It's surprisingly decent. I really like it.
Cruzing 93 Same. I absolutely love it. The interior to me looks more modern and nicer! The buttons and icons looks nicer compared to new cars that have interiors that look really aged already (like the interior of a 2003 car). The acceleration is really good and I love the auto stop feature. Only thing I don’t like? The shiny silver accents shining back at you.
Been a while since I've watched a Redline Review, and I've been reminded why I love the videos so much. You always touch on things like the plastics, touch and finish, soft touch, etc. Stuff that i often don't see in other review videos.
I bought LED headlamps.... It makes a big difference at night and just generally makes the car look more luxurious. Just a little extra something I love my 2017 Chevrolet Cruze premiere. The black and sienna leather interior really makes people turn their heads when they get in. I love my car and I've had no trouble with it. I also love this review. Did I say I love my car. 😆
+Vikk 54 that car was made for consumers, not enthusiasts. When Sofyan was nitpicking, all I could think was how Chevy is going to sell so many of these.
+Elliott Manning every other sporty trim is more than an appearance package in this class. Mazda 3 offers drive modes and paddle shifters. The Honda Civic has a sport mode. So does the Toyota Corolla in the S trim. Almost every car in this class STILL surpasses the Cruze in terms of material quality, and the Civic blows it out of the water with the turbo engine it has. It gets to 60 in 6.7 seconds while this premier trim does it in 7.7. Not to mention the thing is ugly.
+Elliott Manning also, other car manufacturers in this class offer dual zone climate control. Let's just thank Chevy that they came out of the dark ages and started more widely offering push button start.
Drove this engine in a new Malibu recently. Very refined, linear, and torquey. I agree with everything said. Transmission is definitely programmed to maximize fuel economy though. I got mid 30s in that Malibu at 75 mph.
I notice a lot of reviewers go crazy about plastic or hard touch plastic in cars these days, but I often wonder if leather will still look as good after a couple of years on places where you rest your hand often vs plastic?
Leather typically isn't there in place of it in this class, soft touch plastic is. It's a more expensive material, feels better, and is not going to rattle in the future like the guy above said. That's why BMW/Mercedes use it.
I recently purchased a 2016 Dodge Journey crossroad for my family since we needed a 7 passenger suv. Legroom isn't great but I was surprised by how premium the interior quality was every where you touch is either soft touch or leather stitched!
+Vikk 54 I don't know? All the reviews I read stated that the journey is an excellent crossover? Also comes with great features like push button start standard!
The Chevrolet here in Brazil removed the side signal repeaters in the 2nd Cruze... Now it's very expensive and also.... without multi-link suspension! Greetings from Brazil!
12:34 The EPA toughened its fuel-economy rating system between the 2016 and 2017 model years. Most car models saw their EPA ratings drop by about 1 mpg combined. That was also the case for the Cruze Premier (the trim level you reviewed): 2016 Cruze Premier: *34* mpg combined; *30* city, *40* hwy 2017 Cruze Premier: *33* mpg combined; *29* city, *39* hwy 12:41 The LT trim level dropped by 2 mpg hwy between 2016 and 2017 (same car, just different standards): 2016 Cruze LT: *35* mpg combined; *30* city, *42* hwy 2017 Cruze LT: *34* mpg combined; *30* city, *40* hwy Source: fueleconomy. gov
You said the car is a pretty good blend of what the competitors have to offer, which would indicate it is a good package, yet for the purpose the car is intended to serve you wouldn't recommend it? I don't understand.
It usually helps, but when you get over 100+ comment notifications each day, it gets a bit difficult to reply to all the comments ;) It is literally a full time job just answering all of your questions! :) -Sofyan
I'm confused by your comments about the Cruze being slow....7.7 seconds is not slow. It matches your beloved Civic and 3. The Hyundai Elantra, at around 9.5 seconds is slow. The Cruze?... not so much.
Jayson H but it is definitely not it's full potential. Yes the cruze may not be very slow but it is definitely not what it could be. You can get aftermarket tunes that add an extra 40hp with no physical parts being changed. Not to mention the trax has an awd system that could literally fit into the car with no effort. Then they could go the extra mile and try and fit in the 275hp 2.0l i4 to make it even faster.
I was thinking the same thing. I drove one though and I have to say you really don't feel the turbo power. It feels like a naturally aspirated four cylinder, albeit relatively quick.
The previous model had a tight rear seat, but it had a better stance and an original design. Now it looks too much like an elantra, from the side. Both cars look like they were first designed and then stretched...
Auto on/off can be turned off by placing shifter in the L, and shifting it to 6. The car will automatically shift through the gears normally but will not auto stop
You said it doesn't have parking sensors, what does that mean? (That the backup camera only acts as a better view, but doesn't warn you with sensors if you get too close to something?)
To turn off the auto stop mode, put it in L gear and put it to gear 6. It will perform like an automatic without the auto stop kicking in. Its so much better. That auto stop is annoying

I feel that though's control pads on the steering wheel won't last long especially if you're the kind of person that is rough on things. Think of the mid 90s Ford Explorer the cruise control buttons over time, you could literally poke your finger through the pad.
GM is whack for continuing to not offer cruise control on the base. Like on my 2014 base model, how the hell do i get bluetooth and fog lights but no damn cruise control :(
***** it seems like that is the case. And it would be so easy to make it. The awd system is literally made for the cruze and you can tune the engine to get an extra 40-60hp with no addons. If you don't believe me look up trifecta, they flash your car's systems and program it with new shift points and an engine tune that gives it 40-60 more hp.
It's funny my friend has a 2014 Cruze and was pissed my old Acura TSX had it and even my 03 Mazda 6 came standard with it. GM needs to learn value per dollar like the Japanese or go the way of Ford
I'm a taller guy and I have a 2014 Cruze. One thing I hate is the positioning of the center console. My right knee/leg is constantly hitting the temperature adjuster, which has knocked it a little loose over the months, not to mention it's a little uncomfortable to rest my leg against that little knob. My friend feels the same way when he rides shotgun, plus it's awkward to have to push his leg out of the way every time I want to adjust the force of the AC/heat. Plus, acceleration is shit. Other than that, I like the Cruze. It's just that damn center console is so awkwardly placed unless you're a midget.
Currently, we do not have a 2017 Sentra on the schedule. However, it does drive very similarly to the 2013-2016 model and we were not impressed with that model. We feel there are better choices in the compact segment.
It is worth the investment with a Honda. I bought the 2015 Civic coupe EX and im in love with it. Now when I can pay some on my car; I will indeed switch in for a civic sedan. Coupes may look nice, but are horribly inconvenient when you have things to haul around (My bad...). Please, buy a Honda and never have to buy another for years to come.
I agree with +TheOfficer118 Have the transmission fluid changed out soon. Fluid should be changed out every 30k for optimum performance. I believe your model comes with a CVT transmission so make sure wherever you take it that they use only genuine Honda HCF-2 Fluid for your CVT.

I wish chevy would start competing with Ford like making to Cruze into an actual performance vehicle like st focus st and make some of their SUV into performance as well I feel like their playing it safe but I know they can do better and they should replace the ss to compete with the charger
great review Sofyan! are you going to review the Jetta 1.4T anytime soon? I just but that car and I think that engine is just amazing, specially with the manual transmission.
I own a 2017 hatchback, and I'm not sure you know what you're talking about as far as performance. It is a quick car, it does have a bit of turbo lag however, it makes up for it when you know the powerband. Obviously you don't.
I’m sure he drives and reviews many many many! More cars than you probably drove your entire life. Maybe you took the review personally since you purchased this economy vehicle, but his reviews are much more accurate than your opinion.
This car seems WAY overpriced when compared to a Mazda 3. You can get the top of the line Mazda3 Grand Touring Hatchback with 6 speed Manual and skip the appearance package and load it up with options and basically be $2000 cheaper than the top of the line Cruze. Chevy has lost their minds charging 2k more when I have driven both and the Mazda is a WAY better driving car and is IMO as nice on the inside as the Cruze.
That Random Charger @19:00 though!!! 😂😂😂😂😂 Lmfao. Thing is, the Cruze is a Looker. I definitely Love the Looks, the fact that it has no dual exhaust, or even single Exhaust shows how Ass Backwards GM is. This is your "RS Model" This is your Sports Model, Give it the Look and the Feel! They still use that Old Slow Shifting ass 6speed, like GM COME TO THE YEAR 2016/17! Its the Land of The 8speed! Or 7SpeedDCT Get with it! Bump the Power Up! The Car is SLOW! It has Hard Plastics in places that No good car has them anymore! Ugh, GM is Lacking in Quality, and Speed, and Efficiency, in which they always have. The Civic is a MARK... The M3 is Cool, The Dart will be better and maybe faster than the Cruze once Chrysler Update it. But the Cruze is a Good Sale but not a good Purchase in my opinion.
sadly the dart is discontinued for 2016 because Chrysler wants to focus on SUV more than cars. hopefully they will bring it back because that was one of the best american compact car. a srt4 and hellcat dart would be sick.
By the latter part of this video, I was thinking that even though I don't like the new look, this might be worthy of a test drive ... until ... he got to the end and let the cat out of the bag that you can't even get a cruise control without spending $29K?!?!?!?!? WHAT??!!?? There are so many mid-size cars if you're hitting that price point that are MUCH nicer choices! AND ... they tanked the gas mileage over the previous version -- which was one of its most treasured assets!! Chevy, you have made a HUGE mistake with this new and [not] improved version! Sadly, I could never buy this car based on the competition out there! So sad, but luckily, there are plenty of used ones from the previous version of the car!
the 2009+ gen cars are not reliable at all, maybe in the US it is a cheap car to hold but in Israel, this car was a quite garbage of a car, 8 of 10 ppl will complain how not comfortable the driving, that the car have many issues with the engine, oil, electricity and more... the interior feels very cheap, all covered with hard plastic, the emblem on the steering wheel and the door handles are peeling with time. is the new gen is any better ?
Turbos give bad mileage if you push the engines. Turbos are economical when basically you aren't using them. Turbos are there to give efficiency of a weak engine and the power of a strong engine when being used, but they can't do both at the same time.

The EPA estimates 22 city and 33 highway on my 2016 2.0 Premier and after a month and a half (about 1300 miles), I've averaged 25 and 36, respectively. Filled up three times. Definitely no complaints.
in my Elantra SE I got the popular and tech package. it gave me dual zone automatic CC, sliding arm rest, and sport mode. lmao I bet mine was 8 or 9k less than the cruze.
to me in this class the cruze is at the bottom the designers really tried to hard on the exterior that they screwed up on the design.. the interior is nice but thats about the only thing going for it but still every other option is just as nice if not better typical gm shit.. the side view looks really like every other car out there too
This car is SOOOOO popular for teens and and college students. It's actually a pretty decent car, and comes at reasonable price, so I can see why parents would get it for their children.

I love the design of this car. It was very beautifully and cleanly designed. Very nice lines and great proportions.

The RS is nothing more than an appearance package.
They could do something more with the "sporty" trim. But I never expect much from Chevy. God bless them, they're trying so hard.

they should just put the Malibu's 1.5t in this. it's only 9 HP more like really gm?
I can't emphasize enough how great this is as a first car out of college. Really great as a first car to commute in
ahastar1141 same! It’s so economic. 500 miles and 39 mpg or so for me!
The corolla, fusion and volkswagen had a baby.
*And forgot the receipt so they couldnt return it
I notice a lot of reviewers go crazy about plastic or hard touch plastic in cars these days, but I often wonder if leather will still look as good after a couple of years on places where you rest your hand often vs plastic?
Good leather will last. The argument for hard plastic vs soft touch plastic is that as the car ages, hard plastic will be nosier (creaks and such)

Chevy: GIVE US A DAMN CRUZE SS!! Just fit it with the 2.0 liter turbo in the Camaro, Malibu, etc. It doesn't matter if it is FWD or not

You're right that 7.7 isn't slow but the 3 and Civic are closer to 7 flat. If you need a reference a 1996 Doge Neon did 0-60 in 7.8 seconds...

The problem with these reviews, like most other reviews, is that they cover cosmetic crap and don't get into the important things that will determine quality.
1. How is the intermediate shaft on the steering? GM has problems with these.
2. What is the suspension construction? This will determine handling and reliablity.
3. Road noise?
4. Vibrations?
JD power gives it a 3/5 in terms of reliability/quality. Note good.
I don't know, the front looks really good, but it seems when they were designing the back they ran out of time and money and just stuck on whatever tail lights they had lying around. It's really letting the whole thing down
@Sofyan
Thanks for finally delivering this review!! On your observations of the Cruze's steering, that is exactly why Chevy needs to bring back the SS, or make the RS a real sporting option.
They have the excellent 2.0T that is ready in FWD form in the Malibu and Regal. I think they will do something to compete with the Civic Si/R, Focus ST/RS, and V-Dub GTI/R.
But is the car quiet inside? The previous Civic model was exhausting to drive on long trips due to road noise and I take many long trips. Same for the Mazda, fun to drive but they sound cheap due to road noise. I will be turning in my Passat TDI, and am interested in buying the Cruze hatchback diesel. So is it relatively quiet inside?
What are the buttons or paddles behind the steering wheel for?
I feel that though's control pads on the steering wheel won't last long especially if you're the kind of person that is rough on things. Think of the mid 90s Ford Explorer the cruise control buttons over time, you could literally poke your finger through the pad.
They need a Cruze SS to compete with the amazing focus ST and RS
Is it me or compact cars like this and the Civic are way too big these days?
Ianna Matney That's why there's a Sonic
the sonic is pretty big as well.
GM is whack for continuing to not offer cruise control on the base. Like on my 2014 base model, how the hell do i get bluetooth and fog lights but no damn cruise control :(
A.J. Heron That is the least of my worries, I'm pissed that there isn't a version with something that isn't fwd or over 200hp.
Chevy Johnson I want the added power myself, but I'm referring to value lol. A SS Cruze would sell like hot cakes but Chevy doesn't care
***** it seems like that is the case. And it would be so easy to make it. The awd system is literally made for the cruze and you can tune the engine to get an extra 40-60hp with no addons. Chevy Johnson That sounds pretty sweet. More punch and grip sound lovely. If only it had more steering feel.
Great review! Which one is a better choice for a student?
This new Cruze, the new Sentra, or the new 17 Elantra?
Personally i would go for the Elantra or the Cruze.
Civic or the Mazda3. But out of those 3 the 2017 Hyundai Elantra
Out of those 3, the new Elantra is our favorite, especially for a first time driver.
Thanks for the answers! Will you review the new Sentra anytime soon?
Currently, we do not have a 2017 Sentra on the schedule. However, it does drive very similarly to the 2013-2016 model and we were not impressed with that model. We feel there are better choices in the compact segment.
Is it just me or does the first generation look better? 😦
Not just you
just you
The previous gen looked better on the outside the new interior is better though.
Not to me. The 1st Gen was nothing special. Not saying this one is but it at least look way better, but though nothing close to the competition.
Way better.
Are you kidding toyota corolla? Corolla is not even close to cruze in every segment
What about Nissan Sentra?
I just bought the brand new 2016 Civic Touring fully loaded and optioned out. But for fucks sake lets do Civic vs. Cruze GO!
It is worth the investment with a Honda. I bought the 2015 Civic coupe EX and im in love with it. Now when I can pay some on my car; I will indeed switch in for a civic sedan. Also, if you can remember, what are some of the best door thunks you have had?
Civic, Mazda3, and Golf all have more solid sounding "thunks" when you shut the door.
lol
the back kinda looks like the forte and focus lol
Great review Sofyan.
I hate the rear end. it looks like a fucking bubbly fiesta.
Totally agree with you! Love the front but hate the fact that the back is so small!
i personally really like it
The Cobalt wasn’t that bad. It had better build quality. This Cruze has huge panel gaps inside.
Y'all really need to wash the car before beauty shots, it makes it look more professional. Not trying to hate, just a suggestion. Love the video!

great review Sofyan! are you going to review the Jetta 1.4T anytime soon? I just but that car and I think that engine is just amazing, specially with the manual transmission.
I want this car because the stupid daytime running lights actually stay on when the blinker is turned on... it is rare to come by.
such an important feature
It really is. my 1999 car keeps the daytime running lights on with the blinker, but that isn't possible with wiring/design anymore
The reason car manufacturers go that route is for safety. The bright DRL's distract other drivers from the blinker light.
As somebody who owned it since 2017. 1st owner. Put 98,000 on it. Such a bad car lol. It only got towed 9 times.

What does the sound of the closing door indicate?
If the door "thunk" sounds solid than it's a pretty good quality vehicle, if it sounds cheap then the rest of the car is pretty much cheap!

But the Cruze is a Good Sale but not a good Purchase in my opinion.
sadly the dart is discontinued for 2016 because Chrysler wants to focus on SUV more than cars. hopefully they will bring it back because that was one of the best american compact car. a srt4 and hellcat dart would be sick.
what are those buttons behind the stearing wheel?
Volume and radio changers for stations
+Bill Dingo thanks bill
Why do car reviewers never drive the most common trim that people buy?
Can you please do a review on the 2016 jetta sport 1.8t?
I enjoyed your Review of my " 2018 Malibu " I Have a LT.
what do you personally drive?
please. review chevy equinox 2017
which models of the cruze have projection
Meranda Smith all trims have apple/android projection
what a city on 3m.05 sec?
Not impressed with the review. Its not an RS model, the RS is an add-on appearance package.
I want the turbo diesel!
That's a actually a nice car haha the first ones were okay
Hey Sofyan!
Would you be willing to review my 2001 Honda Prelude 5 speed? I live in the NoVA area!
Let me know!
Looks like a civic and a jetta had the world's blandest baby
Dude this is a 2016, and he was probably talking about adaptive cruise. The 2019 has cruise on the LS model which are going for bout $16k.
the best car reviewer in the world...
Looking for Mazda CX9 2016 Review please.Soon Very Soon
kinda looks like the Chrysler 200 wanna be sister? you think
you are kinda right. if Chrysler had a compact sedan it would look like that.
p0sebittch_ idk
the front does but idk about the rest
Waiting g for the cruze hatch
Give us an update
Why do you bother with all the dance club music in the beginning.
I like this intro. It's an improvement over the eardrum-blowing 'engine-redlining' sound.
review the hatchback.
the 2009+ gen cars are not reliable at all, maybe in the US it is a cheap car to hold but in Israel, this car was a quite garbage of a car, 8 of 10 ppl will complain how not comfortable the driving, that the car have many issues with the engine, oil, electricity and more... the interior feels very cheap, all covered with hard plastic, the emblem on the steering wheel and the door handles are peeling with time.
is the new gen is any better ?
Yes, Chevy has improved much
Turbos = bad gas millage my 13 Malibu gets about 20 mpg with 2.0 turbo. Around town.

@@ThePowerslave1989 hows it held up?
Transmission seems really laggy in this car. The shifts seem really slow and lazy.
I don't think the cruze will solve chevrolet's problem in the compact market. To make an all new car without an independent suspension is a failure
He said their problems changed when the first generation came. Then that's when the Cruze started being loved.
hd where u at
I think you need full leather 500bhp 50mpg and full sporty rwd turbocharged car in 25k$ are you kidding? What do you need in just 25k?
in my Elantra SE I got the popular and tech package. it gave me dual zone automatic CC, sliding arm rest, and sport mode. lmao I bet mine was 8 or 9k less than the cruze.
but it's a Hyundai.
I've had two with no Issues. "It's a Hyundai" doesn't mean shit anymore.
+Xavier Urbina it's still a Hyundai.
+ormand3000 Except Hyundai now makes one of the most reliable cars. That's why I drive one now.
Marlon Johnson doesn't change the fact that it's a Hyundai.
hater gonna hate, I like how the car looks. But looks like Elentra is better
the elantra is a lot better looking
This car looks better
I think of buy a used 16' Chevy Cruze sedan.
The Malibu is better because the impala is as fast as the 2.0T Malibu both with 6.2 and 6.1
And the Malibu saves a bit more gas but they are basically the same
What a nice rental car.
Who rests their elbows on the window sill? That’s what the driver side armrest is for!
Finally!!
Ugly rear end with blanked bulbless lenses and combination turn signal / brake lamp / tail light is a total deal breaker
Great ... a $300 car key ... there's an option I'm looking for in a bargain automobile :-(
Previous gen looked better, imo.
Definitely doesn’t
Test the new f150
0-60 : 7.7 seconds
Nice Chevy ♡
to me in this class the cruze is at the bottom the designers really tried to hard on the exterior that they screwed up on the design.. the interior is nice but thats about the only thing going for it but still every other option is just as nice if not better typical gm shit.. the side view looks really like every other car out there too
Good review, crummy GM junk.
older one looked better.
