    I have seen the little Miniature Highlands all over social media and wondered about their size. I don't know much about the Scottish Highland Cattle. But I do know that a lot of the miniature cattle breeds have Chondrodysplasia and other genetic defects. Some breeders even boast about it like it's something to breed for. I have a Miniature Hereford Bull and a Miniature Jersey Bull that I have crossed with Regular sized American White Parks. I bought my bulls naturally raised with their mothers from breeders that tested for Chondrodysplasia and other genetic defects. My first crop of calves this last spring all look like American White Parks except smaller. I sell them as Mid-Miniature because the mothers are regular sized cattle. So far it looks to me like they have taken their size from the sires and the color from the dams. American White Parks are naturally polled and some of the calves are too. I'm looking forward to naturally downsizing my American White Parks in the years to come by breeding the small to smaller without inbreeding. Thank you for being an honest breeder! We seriously need Honesty in this world today💖

    I have always love the Highland comes since i saw them for the first time in my teens. Around 13 years old. A friend had a fold of them. Long hair and massive horns but puppy dog eyes and teddy bear ears. Beautiful critters they were. I told myself if i ever had cows these would be the ones i want. The more i learn about them via you Rhett i know these guys would definitely be for me

    For all of these reasons I sent a link to your channel to a good friend of mine that got a bottle baby highland calf to raise as soon as I seen she got one I immediately sent her a link to your channel because I knew she needed to know everything there was or as much as she could learn about highland cow and that meant going to you because the bottle baby she got was 3 days old when she got it so I was like oh my God and she has triplet girls that are 6 years old so I was like she needs to learn everything she can about Highlands as fast as she can cuz I don't know how much she was told about the breed when she got that bottle baby and how much research she had done before she got it that's why I sent her the link to your channel cuz I knew you she needed to follow your channel and learn from you. God bless yall

    Hello! We are new subscribers! We just purchased our first three Highlanders! We are in LOVE! Thank you for teaching us about the breed! We have 650 Limosine x Angus cross cows but they are quite different than the Highlanders! We are calving now! We also have a TH-cam channel! Our fourteen year old is the voice behind our channel! Blessings to you from Kansas!

    Really appreciate this video. There is an auction around my neck of the woods that features a lot of highlands and for some reason the same owner always brings 3-5 bottle calves there and I just shake my head at the selfishness of that breeder. Are there times when a bottle is necessary to ensure a calf's survival? Absolutely. But it's selfish and irresponsible of the owner to intentionally pull a calf off its mom and sell it for profit.

    • @100AcreWoodHighlands
      @100AcreWoodHighlands  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely agree, sometimes you have to bottle feed. But if it’s not necessary then I don’t think it should be done for a quick buck

    I love how you are so honest and you tell it how it is, yes the Highlands are gorgeous Cow's as they are. I will never understand why some people could justify on breeding a Highland/ and or any other animal with a defect to make a profit when in the long run that Highland and or any other animal is going to have health issues in the long run and not live it's full pain free life. Just my opinion.

    They are an interesting breed of cow. You shared a lot of good advice on what to look for when buying these cattle. I never realized taking a baby from it's mother stunted it's growth. Kind of cruel. Thanks for sharing

      Bottle calves can grow ok, but I don’t think someone should intentionally take a calf from its mom to bottle feed or make a quick buck.

    • @susanmarsh4351
      @susanmarsh4351 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We don’t know the reasons why the calf was separated and sold. If the whole reason was production and increased number of. Calves or the sexual identity of the calf involved then that is poor practice and impacts both the calf and the cow.

  • @vgil1278
    @vgil1278 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    There need to be strict rules for all breeders of animals. So many don't take in to consideration the well being of what they are breeding. If the babies won't have a quality of life equal to what they could have, they have to make it illegal to breed for, with appropriate punishment.

    You said highlands in general were smaller than other breeds. Minis maybe, but not a true highland at 1200-2000lb.

  • @bblaker575
    @bblaker575 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That is completely inaccurate that if you bottle feed a calf for a few days it stunts or delays its growth. And in general bottle feeding calves doesn't stunt growth as long as grains and hay are introduced to allow rumen development.
