I have just been watching "Mysteries of the Terracotta Warriors" on netflix and was pleasantly surprised to find that the artwork in the programme was largely mine- it was something I did a year or so ago and I had not known the extact title of the programme! the documentary is great and I am so proud to be associated with it. The collapse of the Conservative Party has been something of a collective effort. The failings are too numerous to list in their entirety, but a few highlights are:
Brexit, Partygate, Liz Truss's economic "policies", rampant corruption in the awarding of government contracts, persistence in the policy of austerity long after economic necessity and the consequent deterioration in public services, such as the NHS.
It will be interesting to see what other scandals come to light after they leave office and no longer have the ability to prevent enquiries being launched into unethical conduct within government. I suspect the stench will be overwhelming when the poltice of cover ups is torn from the festering wound of Conservative corruption. The gangrene of corruption and extremism has spread throughout the Conservative Party, but they don't yet realise it's killed them.
I think the wound that let the bacterium in was David Cameron putting a referendum in their 2010 manifesto. That set off the chain of dishonesty, lying and short-term political expediency and corruption that has killed them. I'm not a Conservative but these are not phrases I could or would have used about any Conservative government prior to 2010.

Nice artwork, must check out thanks. Quin was arguably the inventor of a very modern position regarding the population: they required constant policing and self policing and family self policing etc. This, because of the enemy within. It was even spelled out in their jumbo legalism: “ a weak people means a strong state and a strong state means a weak people. Therefore a country which has the right way is concerned with weakening the people.” Dean and Massumi. Sounds familiar.

If Sunak had succeeded Boris Johnson directly, implemented his no tax relief policy, not only would the Bank of England sooner gotten inflation under control and there would have been less need for interest rate increases, the whole Min-budget crisis, Truss refusing to withdraw the Min-budget, despite both Starmer and economists encouraged her to do so, would never have happened. The Bank of England would never have had to buy bonds to save pension funds and insurance companies. Something which increased inflation and forced interest rates to be hiked even more. If the financial consequences were not bad enough, Truss being forced to resign made Boris Johnson see a chance to get back into number 10. To prevent that Sunak was forced to strike a deal with Suella Braverman. The price of her faction's support in the leadership election, but which left Boris short in numbers to run against Sunak, was high. Sunak not only could not fire her, despite Braverman committed one blunder bigger than the other. He also had to move politically far more to the right than the policy he proposed after Boris Johnson had to resign.
But I guess, when you strike a deal with the devil, you get burnt.
Sunak was too weak to to properly lead. That was his problem. Other than that he was the best candidate, having the financial sanity not to promise tax cutts when inflation was on the up. The only candidate to have had that sanity that June. Why Tory voters aren't demanding the editors of Daily Mail to be sacked for selling them Liz Truss, is beyond me. That choice for Tory leader and PM has both made prices and interest rates higher, and left less in the public purse for improvement in public services, because the higher inflation has just made public spending more costly, not better.

It all depends on whether Starmer can make a positive difference to the state of the country after 5 years. If he can then he will get another 5 years. I know he will have to disagree with a lot of loons in his party, but if he put his foot down and marched on like Thatcher, he would pull it off. Those Cons who were in ministerial positions mostly need to give up. We can recycle those who have perfect track records though.

I think, the polling for Reform is underestimating the percentage that’ll vote for them, because in our society Reform is seen as far right, and some people will be reticent to say they’ll vote for Reform, when in the privacy of the ballot box, they’ll vote Reform. So Reform will probably win some tens of seats. I think the Tories will probably win about 100 seats. After the GE it’ll be very interesting to see what wing of the Tory party manages to elect their new leader. Whether it’ll just be an ideological sojourn to the far right for a small number of years or whether they see sense straight after the GE and come back to the centre right.

Too little, too late. The Tories have shown incredible ineptitude at managing Party issues, as well as in governing the UK. I agree that a centrist Conservative Party that shows greater concern for the people than themselves might succeed in the future, but factually the Tories have a great deal of work ahead of them if they’re going to be successful in implementing these essential changes to their political and ethical structure. They would certainly need to eliminate all possibility of a future parallel to the Johnson/Truss and dubious other leaderships they’ve chosen through their recent past years in Government. I doubt they can achieve these changes, or that they can eliminate the self-entitled, self-serving character so evident in their behaviours and political actions. Sunak’s actions to suspend candidates occurred under obvious pressure from media and public commentators. He showed a reluctance to act against his own that reflects the worst of Conservative politics. Will the Tories experience of near annihilation in this election provoke changes in their Party? I truly doubt it will.

This was why many Captains preferred to go down with their ship, stood saluting on the Bridge at the very end. Rishi obviously will not do that, but would probably get some respect if he did. The thought of him and his cabinet mummifying themselves is a horrid image. The question I would be asking whichever Cannon fodder Rishi will be sending out round the TV Shows is if it was not right to suspend the 2 Candidates yesterday why is it suddenly right today?
