If you replaced Chester with Scott in LP it would be the same issue. And they only call it STP w/Chester so fans dont feel cheated. But yea, they should get a new name.
I'm more of an STP fan being born in '87 (AIC, PJ and STP all day) but I just saw them "STP" last night at the Shindig in Baltimore and they rocked the fuck out of that show. Chester's mic was up a bit high, but I attributed it to the organizers wanting everyone at the show, including those waiting front stage for Godsmack to come on after STP at the other stage 3 football fields away, to be able to still hear and enjoy them. They sounded good, and Chester had great energy. Also, side note... Linkin Park's DEBUT album is certified diamond. Let me know when you do that shit, I'll fucking bow to you.
I'll also add that I hated when AIC took on DuVall as the new "Staley" but I saw them 2 years ago too and they still fucking rocked too, Cantrell can do no wrong lol
My god...enough comparing Chester and Scott.... all I can say is that Chester and Scott are two totally different singers. Two different styles. And I'm sorry, but I don't hear anything wrong with this performance... at all. People get so hell bent when you don't sound like the original singer..sorry folks. This isn't Journey... Chester has been nothing but respectful towards to music and the band itself, because he's been a life long fan, and got to live out the dream as being the front man to one of the greatest rock bands of all time. We have to accept that we lost Scott as a front man years before he passed. The Scott Weiland we loved and respected as a singer and performer had already in many ways, died. His spirit and his professionalism vanished. His style, charisma, and talent had left him. He lost respect for himself, and his band. And now he really is gone....and its painful, and even though many of us knew the path he was taking, and where it would lead to, it didn't make it any easier when he left us. There is only one Scott Weiland, as there is only one Chester Bennington. At least Chester got STP back to being a real great band. They aren't the same "nostalgic act", just playing the hits. Chester allowed them to dig deep in the catalog and pull out songs they hadn't played in years. That's respect.....so. To all you critics, bashers, haters, etc., have some fucking Respect, and enjoy the music. RIP Mr. Weiland.

so for everyone that wants to do bashing, here is the reality of it. No STP is not the same without scott. Had a chance to see them live when they first came back and it was a rock on the range in columbus, ohio. Was a hell of a good show. For those that want to bash this because of chester, yall need to take a step back and remember this is out of his element and a lot lower vocal range then what is typically sings so thats why its quiet. You can physically watch him struggle to sing lower. But if chester is the only one willing to step in until either they find a new singer or scott gets his shit together, hes doing a damn good job at doing the best he can. Coming from a musician, its hard to step into someone elses place that was iconic from a band. All you can do is the best of your ability.
You can actually here the guy shouting,"Youre not Scott" as the song is beginning. I can't believe someone would do that. You knew what you were getting in to, if you didn't know that Scott wasn't going to be there then you simply aren't a fan. Chester definitely channeled his inner grunge man for this. I think he kinda sounds like singers from that era.. but lacks the richness in his voice like Lane, Scott or Cornell. Still sounds good though.
I saw them at The Paramount in Seattle and was blown away! Not only by how great they played, but I also loved how they pulled out a lot of great unknown songs like Pruno, Coma, and Adhesive. Coma is one of all time favs and I was so excited when they started playing it! Chester is a great fit and has given the band new life and new energy! No, he's not as good as Scott in his prime, but is he better than the current Scott? By a fuckin mile! At this moment in time, this is the best STP we could ask for. Just be glad that a great band is still going and keeping Rock alive!

Actually this concert is a nice surprise. STP is a band I loved so long time ago and I had no idea they were living great legends playing an amazing list of great songs and having so much love and respect from the public and the people. R.I.P. Scott, your voice will always sound on our memory.
I can remember, with crystal clarity, watching the video for In The End as a 10 year old and subconsciously falling in love with music. Years later, I realised that what I loved was the vulnerability of Chester Bennington's vocals. There's a beauty to watching this. Seeing Chester, an artist who was fromative to me, sing with a band that were so clearly formative to him. For me, this is special.

the deleo bros. are two of the best guitarists i've ever seen in concert. drummer great and scott charismatic and good with the audience; great biography; recommend, thank you STP for all the great songs i will rely on for release til the end of my time.
The whole situation is just awful. Scott tried to escape life but he couldn't. He was incredibly talented and a great songwriter. STP will never be the same ever. Chester is a VERY good singer but it's not all about having a great voice. I hope wherever you are Scott you have finally found peace.

I've been watching a lot of STP with Chester, and I honestly think it's great. Sounds similar to Scott (let's be honest Scott wasn't spot on every time either, not even close). I really don't get why everyone dislikes this, its just about exactly how Scott would sound on an average day. Plus, the STP ep with Chester on it rocks. Sounds totally STP to me. Too bad their both gone now....

Okay, let me say something. Yes, I love Stone Temple Pilots and I love Scott Weiland, I think he was an awesome singer and entertainment. But I get sick seeing all the criticism to Chester Bennington, who is one of the greatest vocalists of all time in my opinion (the greatest of all time is Freddie Mercury), I mean he did a terrific job in Stone Temple Pilots and he's a member of one of the greatest bands of all time, Linkin Park. Most of Linkin Park's members are very good musicians, especially Mike Shinoda, who is my favourite rapper of all time and musical idol, Mike is also a good rhythm guitarist, a good keyboardist and an awesome composer. As for rap skills, like I said, he's my favourite rapper of all time, he is a 10/10 rapper and his skills are demonstrated in Linkin Park and Fort Minor. As for Chester, one of the best vocalists and screamers ever, 10/10, and his talent is showcased in Linkin Park and Dead by Sunrise. And I repeat, I love Weiland as a vocalist and yes, STP with Scott > STP with Chester. But in my opinion: Stone Temple Pilots < Linkin Park, and Chester is an awesome vocalist, I mean he's in Linkin Park and Linkin Park songs aren't easy to sing, you need some vocal technical prowess and well as rapping technical prowess and drumming technical prowess. I have to admit Phoenix is an OK bassist, Mr. Hahn is the best DJ ever in my opinion and Brad Delson has improved over the years as a guitarist.

Been an STP fan for a long damn time. No matter what you wanna say about chester, he's a mega fan of this band in his own right. If anyone was going to front this band after Scott got the boot, I'd rather it be someone who loves and respects the music. Now that Scott has passed, I hope they continue on with someone with the same love and respect.

Dude there was a guy trying to fight other members of the crowd, Dean (the guitarist) was upset by this (as most people are to see fighting at their show) and was making sure it was sorted and the guy that was causing trouble got dealt with. Chester let what had to be done be done and came and tried to ease the tension afterwords, it wasn't just "the guitarist having a hissy fit".

It doesn't help that they replaced a sometimes deep voiced singer with a guy who sings through is nose. Sure Chester has a good scream but that gets old once you're no longer 18. He just doesn't have the right sound or attitude for this band. LP hasn't done anything exciting in a long time either. Ever since they did that Transformers song every other song they've done has been a imitation or continuation of that. I don't think anyone let them know they weren't doing songs for every freaking Transformers movie. They just didn't get the message.

Actually this concert is a nice surprise. STP is a band I loved so long time ago and I had no idea they were living great legends playing an amazing list of great songs and having so much love and respect from the public and the people.
R.I.P. Scott, your voice will always sound on our memory.

Saw this tour for my 19th Birthday greatest show I've ever seen
I can remember, with crystal clarity, watching the video for In The End as a 10 year old and subconsciously falling in love with music. Years later, I realised that what I loved was the vulnerability of Chester Bennington's vocals. There's a beauty to watching this. Seeing Chester, an artist who was fromative to me, sing with a band that were so clearly formative to him. For me, this is special.

The whole situation is just awful. Scott tried to escape life but he couldn't. He was incredibly talented and a great songwriter. STP will never be the same ever. Chester is a VERY good singer but it's not all about having a great voice. I hope wherever you are Scott you have finally found peace.

I've been watching a lot of STP with Chester, and I honestly think it's great. Sounds similar to Scott (let's be honest Scott wasn't spot on every time either, not even close). I really don't get why everyone dislikes this, its just about exactly how Scott would sound on an average day. Plus, the STP ep with Chester on it rocks. Sounds totally STP to me. Too bad their both gone now....

Okay, let me say something. Yes, I love Stone Temple Pilots and I love Scott Weiland, I think he was an awesome singer and entertainment. But I get sick seeing all the criticism to Chester Bennington, who is one of the greatest vocalists of all time in my opinion (the greatest of all time is Freddie Mercury), I mean he did a terrific job in Stone Temple Pilots and he's a member of one of the greatest bands of all time, Linkin Park. Most of Linkin Park's members are very good musicians, especially Mike Shinoda, who is my favourite rapper of all time and musical idol, Mike is also a good rhythm guitarist, a good keyboardist and an awesome composer. As for rap skills, like I said, he's my favourite rapper of all time, he is a 10/10 rapper and his skills are demonstrated in Linkin Park and Fort Minor. As for Chester, one of the best vocalists and screamers ever, 10/10, and his talent is showcased in Linkin Park and Dead by Sunrise.
And I repeat, I love Weiland as a vocalist and yes, STP with Scott > STP with Chester. But in my opinion: Stone Temple Pilots < Linkin Park, and Chester is an awesome vocalist, I mean he's in Linkin Park and Linkin Park songs aren't easy to sing, you need some vocal technical prowess and well as rapping technical prowess and drumming technical prowess. I have to admit Phoenix is an OK bassist, Mr. Hahn is the best DJ ever in my opinion and Brad Delson has improved over the years as a guitarist.
+Nintendonix He's not one of the greatest vocalists of all time , you might like his band a lot i get that, but that's a huge overexageration.Linkin Park they write memorable tunes for sure but as far as musicianship goes they can't really get close to the era of musicians that STP are from.

Been an STP fan for a long damn time. No matter what you wanna say about chester, he's a mega fan of this band in his own right. If anyone was going to front this band after Scott got the boot, I'd rather it be someone who loves and respects the music. Now that Scott has passed, I hope they continue on with someone with the same love and respect.

1:06:55 He is just allowed to shove Chester aside in the middle of a performance and Chester just stands neatly "at ease" while guitarist is having his hissy fit. Of course Chester will try to humor the situation so it still remains cool with the rest of the audience. This defines him as a person more than anything.
Dude there was a guy trying to fight other members of the crowd, Dean (the guitarist) was upset by this (as most people are to see fighting at their show) and was making sure it was sorted and the guy that was causing trouble got dealt with. Chester let what had to be done be done and came and tried to ease the tension afterwords, it wasn't just "the guitarist having a hissy fit".

It doesn't help that they replaced a sometimes deep voiced singer with a guy who sings through is nose. Sure Chester has a good scream but that gets old once you're no longer 18. He just doesn't have the right sound or attitude for this band. LP hasn't done anything exciting in a long time either. Ever since they did that Transformers song every other song they've done has been a imitation or continuation of that. I don't think anyone let them know they weren't doing songs for every freaking Transformers movie. They just didn't get the message.

Guys please, anyone would expect or at the very least not be suprised if you three would wanna carry on with playing, creating, whatever, but to attempt to put any lineup on a stage without Scott and call it STP is a travesty. It's a slap in the face of all that was and is the greatness of that band. You just dont replace sinergy like that. You guys are the real deal. You should know that of all people.
