Super huge thanks to the American Heritage Museum for letting me interview Dick about the amazing restoration work on the Panzer 1 in the collection. Unfortunately due to complications with the engine when trying to start it it will not be operational for the debut on May 15th and 16th 2021. However the tank will still be on static display so you will still be able to see it.
For more information on their collection and for directions check out their website: www.americanheritagemuseum.org/
I plan to be there for both days if possible so if any of you can make it keep your eyes out and say hi if you see me.

That engine modification screams eastern front to me, it would be handy to try and prevent molotov cocktails from being thrown onto the engine bay and burning into it. the other option is perhaps it was part of the french occupation force, and they welded that bit on to deny them easy access to the engine. if it was in france that could explain how it ended up in canada, captured by the canadian expedionary force, which would somewhat narrow down it's potential unit and history.

Honestly the Panzer 1 is really underrated, not in the sence that it was really good or well designed but in the fact that it was used to create the basis of the german core and develope German armor strategy expecialy with the event that happened during the Spanish civil war. I love how it looks it's almost brand new! Well done!

See the Inside the Chieftain's Hatch on the MkI. I believe that this is the tank you refer to. This tank runs, but the interior is incomplete and it appears that it has a different engine in it. So, it is a Panzer I, but it's not all there.
My question is what happened to the Mk I at APG? There was a MkI there on static display outside, like the rest of the collection, rotting away in the Chesapeake Bay weather. Where did this tank go? Did it leave the US, or is it in a warehouse somewhere?

When this vehicle was in the Reno Nevada area in 2019 my brother in laws father was working on it with the 'master restorer' mentioned by Dick. My BIL's father is retired and quite a good Mechanic and he knew that I was a WW2 history buff and a tank enthusiast and invited me and my father down to visit and check it out. This 'master restorer' guy was a really interesting character allegedly, he dragged his feet for quite a while on many aspects of the restoration such that simple things that could be completed in a matter of an hour were left on the 'to do list' so by the time I got to see it, it was only an empty hull without the superstructure and the 4-cyl air-cooled engine was on a mount ready to be lowered into the chassis. Glad to see that this tank is coming together and almost complete!

Like how the Panzer I has the early white cross that was remove after Polish invasion. Because the Polish gunners used the white cross to target and aim at because the white cross was painted on the flat parts of the panzers that Polish found was the easy parts to pen their guns at just like a bulls eye target

This vehicle was part of the Farley Mowat collection which was collected somewhere in northern Germany, it was brought back to Canada along with 700 tons of other German WW2 equipment, and went on display at the Canadian War Museum until traded with Littlefield, I’ve seen the paperwork which lists this vehicle at CFB Borden in 1946

You missed some of the details that Spain was broke after the Spanish Civil War which they didn't had much choice in tanks and even some of their indigenous tank designs like the Verdeja were very limited.
It is a bit incorrect to say that the Pz. 1 tank was not the only tanks used by Spain after the civil war. Soviet T-26 tanks captured after the war were predominately used as well as StuG III and Panzer IV tanks that were bought from Germany during WW2.

"Chasing people with spears and axes"?! In which war 🤣?! OMG, guys, this tank was inferior to many tanks of the time. In Spain, it was getting thrashed by the soviet T-26, in Poland it got decimated by anti-materiel rifles and the Polish 7TP tanks. It's the large numbers, the tactics and the air support that made it possible to use this tank on the battlefield.

I'm a ameriboo but agreed it's nice to see such a rare tank furthermore almost fully functional. Though it's sad to see how few functional axis tank exist compared to allied tanks.

Amazing...it looks factory fresh!! While most of us obsess on the later Panthers and Tigers, this is arguably much more significant historically. It was a huge step forward in armor development, tactics, and use. The battlefield history created by this small, relatively umderwhelming vehicle is the cornerstone of everything that followed!!!
I am DEFINITELY on the wrong side of the country. Id love to be able to see this, and the other east coast collections. The museum looks great, the presentation is a cut above the "line of tanks" you mentioned... Def a stop on my "someday " list!!!

My favorite tank is the T26E4 Super Pershing. I'd love to ride in one and fire the main gun. I think riding in the Panzer 1, I would become stuck and claustrophobic in that tank, lol. Come out looking like "Martin Lawrence's" hand from the scean of him and Will Smith riding in his porcha when he drops the 🍟 and is told to clean it up. Saying that his hand would come out looking all deformed and misshapen.

I think its very intresting to talk about the infantry support armored vehicles of ww2 since they are very underrated.(the fact that you could document this pzkpfw.'s 1 restoration makes it even cooler)
You should explore post ww2 or even interbelic era infantry aupport vehicles if there is any info available.
    Love the vids :))))

It is the panzers of the German panzers, Not at all underestimated!, It was used to the end, As a defensive shield against infantry, Or for exploration!, Really a great job and somehow proud that this "small" piece lives again, For the history 👊💪

Excellent job on your Panzer I.The Australian Armor and Artillery Museum is restoring to running condition a Panzer I. Sadly it will not have original engine and drive train but it will be a runner. 👍

the film footage of Pz.1s driving through mountains looks so much like a 1950s animatronics production with models in a diorama :)
Pz.1 was never designed to take on tanks. It was effectively a mobile pillbox for use against infantry and in a scouting role, ideal as well for crowd control in urban areas because of its small size.

Yeah the restoration do be cool but...assuming that it is not a lethal weapon......hypothetically speaking......for an undisclosed reason....could I buy it and then register it as a car?....the purpose is not important; just the question.

Many countries are or have come full circle by designing/building light recon tanks that have no real AT weapons or anything, just a machinegun and at most a small autocannon. Just shows that you don't always need a heavily armored heavily armed tank and can actually benefit by using small light tanks that can move around and support ground infantry and also act as a scouting/recon vehicle. The Russians got it right with the BMPs, BTRs, and all their other armored personnel carriers and it took way too long for the US to do anything similar lol. Imagine how much better off US GIs would have been if they had light armor that could protect them from small arms fire and also give supporting fire with a light/heavy machinegun or autocannon in Vietnam in areas that they can actually use them. Hell just having a few around an FOB would make defending them from hoards much easier as the crew are fairly safe. The History of armored vehicles started with them being lightly armored and armed with MGs or small cannons, now we are going full circle.

An Pz.1 Ausf.A is really neat since it the primo maneuver warfare tank of the early World War 2. While I'm more biased on the C variant due to it's efforts in D-Day, seeing that relics that go back from the interwar running fills me with glee.
