Our Trip to elephant hill was nothing short of amazing.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
LOCATION & DISTANCE
The Elephant Hill on the southern end of the Aberdares Ranges, about 90km north of Nairobi and so it will take us about 2 hours to the starting point, this Hill is an ideal location for a day hike. It’s one of the best pre‐hikes particularly if one is up to hike Africa’s highest mountains; Mt Kilimanjaro and Mt Kenya It is situated at the west of Mt Kenya in the central highlands between Nyeri and Naivasha. The Aberdares ranges are as well the water catchment area feeding two of the largest dams supplying Nairobi water needs, i.e. Ndakaini Dam in the Thika region and Sasumua Dam near Njabini town
TIME FACTOR IS KEY
It is best to go there early, to start the hike early enough at least by 8 am. It takes about 3 to 4 hours to hike up the hill, therefore its best to get there early to avoid getting caught up in the afternoon showers and occasional thunderstorms that are typical in the Aberdares region,
which is a common phenomenon at high altitudes.
An added advantage of getting to the top early before the mist is that the skies are clear and the amazing views of Mount Kinangop are spectacular and to die for.
HIKING GEARS & OUTDOOR EQUIPMENT
Because of the high altitude, Elephant Hill is one of those hills that rains abruptly despite the Weather forecasts reading otherwise. Light but warm hiking gears, preferably waterproof ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. It does get really cold up there and it is necessary to have proper hiking boots.
It's a steep and slippery terrain particularly at the Bamboo zone, a Hiking Pole will come in handy as you descend.

The views are breathtaking all the way up the mountain” Point of Despair” or "desperation point" as the name alludes is where some Hikers give up but we would recommend going all the way up to the summit. it will be totally worth it.

Whether you are a seasoned, experienced, or amateur Hiker, it is important to have yourself or your team accompanied by a guide. With such a terrain anything can happen and while alone you may need help.
