Historically, it was so; and we are very sorry for the stabberness of the parties! But the 'filioque' case is often only an "excuse", as far as I see it, because at the end of the day, we will never understand fully this Mistery either, and that we can all agree about already today! Soon will a new Initiative presented for the Unity, 'that the world may believe that I was sent by the Father and I sent you'!

The Filioquie is not an excuse, it is a blasphemy to change the nature of the Holy Spirit, it is truth that we don´t understand the whole nature of God but we must believe in the same God in order to be the same Religion.

@@andresgalindo7682 yes, that is why we in VERITATIS MISSIO believe in the entire Divine Revelation as the original Apostolic Community believed in it during the first three Centuries, without the later added (though not necessarily fals) details and internal (most certainly sinful) fights about them against the Love of Christ!

The Eastern Catholic Rites do not have the filioque in the Nicene Creed. So that would lend credence to your point.

1 Corinthians 11 - “1 Be my imitators, even as I imitate Christ. 2 Now I praise you, brethren, that you remember me in all things, and hold firm to the traditions as I delivered them to you.”
1 Corinthians 11:16 - “But if anyone wishes to dispute these things, we have no other custom, and neither do God’s Churches.”
2 Thessalonians 2: “15 And so, brethren, stand firm and keep the traditions which we taught you, whether by word or by letter.
2 Thessalonians 3:6 Now we command you, brethren, in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to withdraw yourselves from every brother who walks in rebellion, and not after the tradition which they received from us.
‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭3‬:‭15‬ ‭‬‬ “But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.”

If we want a living example of the context for the first split in the church we can look in the at the Patriarch of the Moscow who is willing to provoke the second split in the orthodox church ... so its not so difficult to observe the live process not just some old documents.
There is a prophecy about the second Pope ... and it will happen at the Moscow... politic people and motivations has a strong support for the next coming split of the Eastern Church.

      Andres,
First, my Spanish - apart from being able to read and grasp political stories - is non-existent so you've got that on me. However, I will point out to you that, in English, whenever you refer to 'yourself' the 'i' is ALWAYS a capital 'I'.
Also, But more to the point, I, was also raised a Catholic (I live in Sydney) and although I'm not a practising Catholic I still consider myself to be such.
As for "preserving the Ancient Faith", I can't believe that the Pope doesn't excommunicate President Biden, because he supports unconditional choice of women to have an abortion.

In fairness, you must not be following very closely. The Pope and the patriarch of Constantinople meet frequently. Some meeting occur with the Moscow patriarchate as well. As an orthodox Christian I usually see these not necessarily as positive though. While I would love a truly United church, I worry that it would just be a watering down of the Orthodox faith rather than repentance of what Orthodox Christian’s would see as Catholic heresies.

During the Schism of 1054 Rome took the Name Roman Catholic since the Roman Patriarchate took a Name the other 4 Patriarchates had to take a name to distinguish between them and the Roman patriarchate. They took the name Orthodox Meaning the correct Doctrine and they are still united till today. We need to understand that Rome was also Orthodox for the first 1000 years
The Church that Jesus Built although the Filioque had come from north of Africa had taken hold in Spain in France and Germany soon the only person that was saying the Original Creed was the pope in the Vatican. After the Schism the Pope started and accepted the Filioque. After the Schism Rome started with the superiority complex started with Heresies, Inventions, and in some instances falsehoods to push for their inventions. Also in Rome 10 of the popes had children with girl friends and Pope Alexander had a son with his own daughter. The church had try to reunite however Rome still wanted to be the superior although the church had given Rome the Honor but not the superiority. Rome always until today has been changing and since Vatican II it has completely changed. By the way the Original Creed it was on plaques on the door of Saint peter in Rome they have been moved and they are hidden inside but if you ask they will show them to you. In this video there are other minor things that are not discussed but are very minor.

But there is neither East nor West, Border, nor Breed, nor Birth,
When two strong men stand face to face, though they come from the ends of the earth!

    New Covenant Whole Gospel:
Who is now the King of Israel in John 1:49? Is the King of Israel now the Head of the Church, and are we His Body? Why did God allow the Romans to destroy the Old Covenant temple and the Old Covenant city, about 40 years after His Son fulfilled the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34 in blood at Calvary?
What the modern Church needs is a New Covenant Revival (Heb. 9:10) in which members of various denominations are willing to re-examine everything they believe and see if it agrees with the Bible, instead of the traditions of men. We need to be like the Bereans. It will be a battle between our flesh and the Holy Spirit. It will not be easy. If you get mad and upset when someone challenges your man-made Bible doctrines, that is your flesh resisting the truth found in God's Word. Nobody can completely understand the Bible unless they understand the relationship between the Old Covenant given to Moses at Mount Sinai and the New Covenant fulfilled in blood at Calvary. What brings all local churches together into one Body under the blood of Christ? The answer is found below.
Let us now share the Old Testament Gospel found below with the whole world. On the road to Emmaus He said the Old Testament is about Him.
He is the very Word of God in John 1:1, 14. Awaken Church to this truth.
Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by husband unto them, saith the LORD:
Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
Is the most important genealogy in the Bible found in Matthew 1:1 (Gal. 3:16)? Is God's Son the ultimate fulfillment of Israel (John 1:49)? Why has the modern Church done a pitiful job of sharing the Gospel with modern Orthodox Jews? Why would someone tell them they are God's chosen people and then fail to share the Gospel with them? Who is the seed of the woman promised in Genesis 3:15? What did Paul say about Genesis 12:3 in Galatians 3:8, 3:16? Who is the "son" in Psalm 2? Who is the "suffering servant" of Isaiah 53? Who would fulfill the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34? Who would fulfill the timeline of Daniel chapter 9 before the second temple was destroyed? Why have we not heard this simple Old Testament Gospel preached on Christian television in the United States on a regular basis?
Once a person comes to understand the New Covenant promised to Israel and Judah in Jeremiah 31:31-34, which is found fulfilled by Christ during the first century in Hebrews 8:6-13, and Hebrews 10:16-18, and specifically applied to the Church in 2 Corinthians 3:6-8, and Hebrews 12:22-24, man-made Bible doctrines fall apart.
Let us now learn to preach the whole Gospel until He comes back. The King of Israel is risen from the dead! (John 1:49, Acts 2:36)
We are not come to Mount Sinai in Hebrews 12:18. We are come instead to the New Covenant church of Mount Zion and the blood in Hebrews 12:22-24.
1Jn 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
1Jn 3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
1Jn 3:24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
The following verses prove the Holy Spirit is the master teacher for those now in the New Covenant.
Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
Mar 1:8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.
Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
Act 11:16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.
1Co 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
1Jn 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

The Catholicity of the Church once was there in 1 body.. they broke mostly bits by "interpetation of words" due to "the tongue". However amongst eastern churches that also can be found in "the west". Is finding more unity amongst. For example in my country Orthodox church from Russian patriarch can have a priest whose spiritual father can be a Coptic Orthodox priest. The Coptic, Ethiopian and Eastern Orthodox are finding unity more and more. At the same time there is still dividing.. many Orthodox church do not truly suit "Orthodox" my priest calls this "hunger for power" makes them unacceptable to the patriarch. Excommunocated churches, priest and whole jurisdictions.. it's sad. Sometimes it's not very good.. sometimes it's because "pride" and too much "politics" get involved. A unity is good, but one cannot have a patriarch like the western pope for the whole world. The way Russian patriarch seems to operate is quite satisfying. They have done a good job keeping the ties with greece, so on.
I gues my point is that some differences seem to be better understood and may sometimes be more a translation to "naming" something issue. With Roman-catholic vs Orthodoxy in general is that the Catholic lost Orthodoxy.. while Orthodoxy didn't really lose Catholicity. Best would have been if the west sticked to original theology.
After all my Church is Catholic Apostolic Orthodox.

When you actually read Scripture, which I was told not to do by multiple priests without their guidance, you will discover the truth and simply profound nature of salvation in Jesus Christ alone. The thief on the cross looked over and believed. You should look up what Jesus said to this man, as the thief, who lived a rotten life chose to simply believe and he was in paradise that day. It saddens me to see how so many "religious" people who claim to know Jesus but have no idea who He is or what He did for the world. We will all meet him face to face one day. Do you believe these scriptural references about Christ Jesus? This is scripture, not the doctrines of men.
1 Timothy 2:5 KJV 'For there is one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus." (Not Mary)
1 John 2:1-2 KJV "We have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: and he is the propitiation for our sin: and, not for our's only, but also for the sins of the whole world."
Hebrews 7:25 KJV. "Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them."
For there is one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus, who is the propitiation for our sins, who ever liveth to make intercession for us."
Leviticus 17:11 KJV "For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.
The passover lamb was the sacrifice God wanted to spare the Israelites in Egypt: Exodus Chapter 12
Jesus was the passover lamb for mankind: John 1L19 KJV
Jesus's sacrifice was once for ever: Hebrews 9:12: "Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in ONCE into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us." Hebrews 10:12: But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;"
Baptism kills our bodies, making us free from sin: Romans 6:3-7 KJV "Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin, for he that is dead is freed from sin."
Jesus even took away all the laws and ordinances so they could no longer be held against us. Colossians 2:14 KJV
"Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross."
HIs blood eternally redeemed us, cleansed us of our sins by his one sacrifice forever, he took away the laws that were against us, killed our bodies in baptism, freed us from sin.
"There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus had made us free from the law of sin and death." Romans 8:1,2 KJV.
We are free from sin and citizens in the kingdom of heaven now. "If the Son shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed." John 8:36
    Exodus 20:4,5 KJV
"Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God."
"Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God." Leviticus:26:1 KJV
Luke 1:38 KJV "And Mary said, Behold the HANDMAID of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word." Mary admitted she was the Lord's handmaid, not his mother.
Jesus showed Mary was not his mother. Matthew 12: 48-50 KJV "Then one said unto him, Behold thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee. But he answered and said unto him, Who is my mother? And who are my brethren? And he stretched out his hand toward his disciples, and said, behold my mother and my brethren. For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother"

@@biblebiteshistory This video is about 'The Great Schism' that could have only come about by the embracing of false doctrine. This message is to see if bible doctrine, scripture, is still considered the only source of knowledge for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. "These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so." Acts 17:11 KJV

Was this how the ottomans found the weakness?

    • @biblebiteshistory

The Ottomans only took Constantinople 400 years later. Personally, I think they would have continued to lose land to the Islamic Empires regardless because of other factors. The reason for the rise of Islam and the fall of the Byzantine Empire is dense and complicated and I wouldn't say the split is the main reason. Many Eastern churches continue to exist today in Islamic countries like Egypt, Syria, and others have only recently taken a big hit like in Iraq and Lebanon. However, the Eastern church in Turkey was pretty much completely gutted.

no I don't agree, the straw that broke the camel's back was to my mind when the patriarch asked for help of Rome to ward of the attack by the ottomans on hagia Sophia. it was delayed and the feeble force protecting it cudnt save it from disaster. due to the onslaught in numbers. so when the force did reach the battle was done. and ottomans won. it wud not have happened , if they had made it sooner.

    The Great Pointless Hairsplitting.

  • @onceamusician5408
    @onceamusician5408 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

let me suggest that this split had no effect on christianity at all.
    why?
i submit that if Jesus spoke correctly when he said, "strait is the gate narrow the way and FEW there are who find it" then any form of Christian religion widespread enough to be the establishment religion of a country that invokes Christ has already morphed away from the gospel of christ - ie away from christ Himself as He is not found personally and one on one by the majority of these people - and so is NOT christian at all
true born gain believers were only always ever a tiny remnant, and if christianity is true the distinction between real believer and nominal believer is crucial

Am I understanding you correctly, I’m reading that you say this quote by Jesus on the narrow way is the gospel because according to this verse it will always only be a minority of people?

Orthodoxy focuses on personal theosis i.e. spirituality instead of hoarding billions at the expense of the poor. And The many thousands of miracles each year in the Otthodix sphere follow in Jesus footsteps, trying to be as true to Jesus teaching as he taught. And marriage of priests was never forbidden by Jesus. Some powerhungry pope declared that priests should not marry - and what utter disaster that has caused to countless abuse victims!!!!

Both wings have become corrupted in their doctrine and practice. They did not remain true to the bible. Catholicism is the worse of the two.
