Over 300,000 Serbs were expelled from their homes, and to this day only 1.5% have returned, the Albanians occupy their homes and do not let them return, so think about whether a humanitarian catastrophe was prevented, of course the Americans built a base there, the second largest in Europe, and Kosovo is an area with large mineral reserves, so you think about whether there were any alternative reasons for the aggression.
Forgot to say how the serbs expelled 1.1 milion albanians killed 10k and raped 15k women you forgot to say how miloshevic killed albanians for protesting in 1990
Being from Kosovo during the war as a child, and being a mixture of both nationalities ethnically I will try to provide an unbiased opinion on this. There were a lot of incidences of oppression against Albanians pre-bombing, but the bombings did intensify them to the scale of outright ethnic cleansing. Most Albanian families were expelled during the bombings vindictively. I have problems with trauma due the bombing of the Serbian police station a mile away from where my family lived, in addition to being kicked out of my house shortly after. The cluster bombs used in Novi Sad were a war crime as well. I also believe KFOR could have done more to assure Serbian refugees a safe return post-war However, no matter what ethnic or political agenda Albanians and Serbs might disagree on, we agree that Milošević rule was a tragedy for both of us. A government that maintains clandestine ties to its criminal underworld, that kills its opposition left and right, that sacrifices the life and comfort of its own people for its own agenda, that makes sociopaths and rabble powerful, that is not only a system that fails its citizens but also is a stain on humanity

The beginning of the video is politically painted, and not objective. You just said how the Yugoslav government began discriminating against Albanians out of the blue. I've watched countless of channels have attempts to analyze the war in Yugoslavia, All of them began by painting the Serbs and those who sided with them as evil. No video will EVER be good and informative when it starts that way. The stigmatization against them will only continue
No! in fact, they had much greater rights than the Serbs in Albania. Serbs in Albania do not have the right to be educated in their own language, and not only that, they also have no right to declare themselves as such. They can't even put their personal name in the documents, instead they impose an Albanian name on them. But apparently, this so-called "cultural" part of the world determines who is right based on their interests and nothing more. It doesn't matter that in both great wars we died for justice and were on the same side with that civilized part of the world against the same Albanians and Croats, Bulgarians, Hungarians who were all Nazis and fascists. Interest is important... Then leave us alone. We should build a wall around the territory and live peacefully as far away from you...
Long story short. Tito died . Serbs took over government positions. Slovenians didn't want to be a part of that especially after the bloc collapsed , EU came offered money , Slovenia left , many other countries left . But Serbia wanted to be big so they ended up really small
@@sidhantsharma9961 it's true albanians were politically opressed, but it's sad you blame that solely on milošević. And I thought you would be honest. What can I expect from a channel that confuses the year that the NATO operation started. It as 1999. not 1993. You lied about the train, there were no Albanian refugees on the train only Serbian civilians. And they didn't stop the ethnic cleansing they just helped the Albanians to ethnically cleanse it of Serbs and other non Albanians. I will have to start making my own videos on the subject since from western youtubers you can't expect honesty.
The Kingdom of Serbia created Yugoslavia in 1918, we won the First World War and united with the Croats and Slovenes, who lost the war. during the unification with them, the borders of the Kingdom of Serbia included Kosovo and Macedonia, which we liberated from Turkey in 1912. Those areas were the central parts of the medieval Serbian state and today there are many churches, monasteries and fortresses built by our lords, our kings and our emperors in the Middle Ages. Albanians do not have a single cultural-historical monument of their own in Kosovo. Before the Turkish occupation Albanians did not live in Kosovo, only Serbs, and only during the Turkish occupation Albanians were brought by the Turks from today's Albania and settled in Kosovo. The Albanians accepted Islam and the Turks allowed them to rob and kill Serbs and seize their land in Kosovo. In 1912, in the 1st Balkan War, the Kingdom of Serbia liberated Kosovo, and since then it belongs to Serbia again. Kosovo will always be Serbian, the current occupiers will also leave, they will be there much shorter than the Turks were.

Should the all the Serbs be blamed for everything or the leadership of the country? I heard testimonies first hand and I was trapped in Belgrade when bombing started with my sister and girlfriend. They intervened but at what cost? How many innocent, anti war people died? Kids? That was no way to solve the problem. Even my city was bombed, we lived in fear in terror for months.
That is in what these online armchair historian experts believe in. I like to imagine them growling in anger and with tears in their eyes while writing their comments to justify that an entire group of people should be responsible.
The same thing could be said for Bosnians during Sarajevo, problem is now that we people in the Balkans are too strong headed sometimes to even comprehend when looking at the other side and trying to be sympathetic. You can't have that when your history with that nation was quite rough and bloody.

Your phrasing of the lack of jurisdiction or real authority for NATO to attack Serbia was very weak. These were not NATO nations and NATO nations were not being attacked. You also left out that Russia was trying to intervene for peace and in less destructive means, but NATO blocked them preventing Russia from being helpful and NATO worked against Russia instead of with Russia to achieve peace. Russia had the ground forces to do it and NATO did not, or, at least NATO was not willing to lose any troops to the cause, and Russia was willing.
Russia was in no position to do anything, their strive for peace was nothing more than political move Russian Armed Forces were still recovering for lack of manpower and funds after Union collapse AND also being beaten badly during Chechen wars
Russia supported the Milošević regime. They did nothing to stop the war or persecution. They only delayed intervention and vetoed intervention resolutions at the UN, until they had to give in and let the UN pass the overwhelming majority resolution to let NATO intervene and stop the massacres that had plagued the Albanians for an entire decade. The NATO intervention was a decade too late.

Are there alternative methods to stop a nation from committing ethnic cleansing, without invading it? No one of the nations that went to war with Serbia had anything to gain, and no one gained anything with this war. The alternative was invading directly Serbia, or letting the ethnic cleansing of Kosovo happen unopposed. Did you put on the balance what was the lesser evil?
They talked several times throughout the video about how the Serbians killed more civilians, and that despite what happened there were mostly good intentions from Western leaders. However that doesn't distract from the main questions asked by the video, namely that if the rules of war are not followed by those who set them, who will follow them? If the West is so keen on a rules based world order, why do they violate those rules when it's convenient? If attacking vital infrastructure is illegal under international law and rules of war, why did NATO do just that? It's not that you can't make an argument that NATO was the lesser evil, most people outside Serbia, Russia and China wouldn't disagree. But that doesn't somehow then justify everything NATO did. Rather it proves how shallow and hypocritical they are compared to their purported values, not holding themselves up to the standard they want to hold the world to.

So should NATO have just stood by on the sidelines with their hands in their pockets and let the genocide continue? Instead of trying to use militarily force to leverage a cessation of hostilities, NATO should have given "ethnic cleansing a chance?" While mistakes were made of mind boggling and obviously lethal incompetence, such mistakes also are something that happens in all wars, everywhere, and always have at all times throughout history. Perhaps you should take into serious consideration the fact(s) that in that place and time, there was and still is no question which came first, the chicken or the egg. Everyone knows who started it. Everyone knows who finished it and how. Just as everyone knows that's exactly why the mass slaughter of a mostly civilian population ended both quickly and hasn't reoccurred ever since.
Mate, you’ve been watching all politically painted videos before.
This one is even and balanced.
Albanians were discriminated against, that’s a fact.
No! in fact, they had much greater rights than the Serbs in Albania.

Quite a hypocrite NATO is, ignoring chemical weapon usage by Iraqs when it was it's ally and also currently ignoring Israeli warcrimes in Gaza Strait.
Well, they did didnt do nothing in Rwanda, theyre not doing anything about Gaza, instead theyre giving Israel weapons, so yeah
What genocide? My God you people are blind🤦
How do you bomb a bridge and not check the train schedules
Serbia shouldnt have committed genocide
👏👏👏 thank you for that deep, well thought out, original opinion piece. Wow! Im sure they didnt think of that
You don't burn houses as you enter a village, you burn it as you flee. Therefore the Albanian mercenaries were burning down Serbian houses being burned.
The unemployed Serbians with a gambling site open in the next Browser tab will have a field day with this one.
LOL

ok, who told you that?

Ah yes, the pathetic wannabe westoid eastern european, the americans are just using you as a buffer against russia, I am not even serb btw lmfao
From USSR buffer states to u.s ones. How sad. Are your knees hurt with all the kneeling and scraping?
international jew's boots taste so damn good am i right bro?
Sorry to the folk. Atrocities happen in the region sadly common , with Christian Armenian massacre likely still on memory. Things going back to the Turkish era, and Gengis too. Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse always said Balkans not worth 1 grenadier, and never seemed to rank on Germany,s wish list..Prayers.
aint no way bro is trying to justify nato bombing of serbia
What about all of the massacres that the serbs committed during the Yugoslav wars
@rojusrutkauskas4952 they war criminals are in jail for it and the people condemned it, unlike nato who is trying to glorify their illegal intervention..
11:08 "of course" it was no deliberate.
“I cannot deny the Atrocities that the NATO Forces committed and I condemn NATO for those atrocities they undeniably committed. However it can and must be said with certainty NATO’s actions in Kosovo and Serbia prevented a genocide of the Kosovars that the Serbs were trying to commit. Long live a free Kosovo!!!🇽🇰”

Sympathies for Serbia but remember this is war. People die both innocent and guilty. If NATO did not interfere we could have expected far worse.
What was the world suppose to do standby and watch a nation die by genocide?
Good and informative video.
The Guardian: "Though justified by apparently humanitarian considerations, NATO's bombing of Serbia succeeded only in escalating the Kosovo crisis into a full-scale humanitarian catastrophe
Well, when the war was over, KLA ethnically cleansed Kosovo, expelling 200k Serbs and burned their homes. So they did the same as the other side. The world stood by and pretended it didnt happen
@@excentrik5725exactly
Well the world sure does pretty well stands and does nothing to what's happening now. Do I smell... HYPOCRISY???
Great, then do you have the same sympathies to the Palestinians in Gaza?
Air defenses were Decades out of date but they shot down the new stealth fighter ? The 117.
So either the air defense is better than you say or the new stealth fighter sucks
Gotta love all these ‘moral’ armies.
Stopping genocide is moral, but obviously a Pro Palestinian doesn't know that.

ask yourself why nato intervened, it was to prevent genocide in bosnia and kosovo, I bet your little mind can only think about how "US and west bad, everyone against US and west good" like a typical propalestine moron, I bet you probably cheered on hamas on oct. 7
@@Shot_Gunner eww
phoebesmith Would you just let the Serbs continue killing?
It was an intervention of the US who established their oresence in the following time.
NATO also brought Mujahideen to prop up Albanians.
what? thats not true, the majority of the fighting against the serb oppressors was by the kla, which were exclusively ethnically albanian and not even all of them were muslim, but seeing how your username is sleepyjoe, I think its clear to see you dont care about the truth, you just care about licking the boots of tyrants and oppressors like trump, putin, and milosevic.
Nope, that’s was Bosnian war. Kosovo Liberation Army was strictly nationalist and one can say leftist guerrilla group. There were plenty of catholic Albanians in KLA.
You have mistake here 1:13. Macedonia is not included.
Simply NA( USA)TO...committed full of aggressiveness towards Yugoslavia peoples. By all means....after NA(USA)TO organized several separated states..they became extremist Islamic terrorism highly corrupted states ( Bosnia 🇧🇦 and Albania 🇦🇱 inside heart of Christianity Europe ) and Fascist national Croatia 🇭🇷. Only Serbian 🇷🇸 people suffered too much because Serbian people recognized Russian 🇷🇺 brotherhood
real Jews and fallowers of OF Jesus (son of God) suffered more than these countries people . its spiritaul fight of believes . also for land grab ,power grab , control and superriority axcetra .
im american, no stake in either side of that conflict and heres what i have to say; dear serbs, from an objective observer who was an oblivious toddler when the main conflict began, every sane person who studies history interested in getting to the bottom of things sees serbia as the aggressor. they see serbia as needing to be stopped. they see the nato campaign as a necessary evil. always sad when civilians suffer the consequences of their leaders. but thats exactly who is to blame. your leaders and your own nationalistic and racists beliefs. this is how the conflict will be remembered by anyone educated for the rest of history. look inward at yourself and ask why you are whining in the youtube comments of a short history video about the real and shameful actions of your country and vote to change it. get these types of people out of power so it doesnt happen again. act now because your current right wing nut job government is slow walking you down a similar path and NATO is only stronger than it was the last time. think about that before continuing to support your current abhorrent government.
Sure Serbs were so gentle with Cratian and Bosnian civil population. Shooting in blocks of flats with tanks was invented by them.
Look up what the Bosnians and the Croatians did to the Serbs when they both joined the NAZIs.
@@elijahhaar4584Yeah nobody talks about that and who cares about that, right?

What they did they stopped the war that Serbia spread around bloodshed.
Since when is Ireland part of NATO.
We don’t waste money on weapons and make up excuses about bad people.
Also notice how ethnic cleansing is only for certain people, only they get allowed to do it.
It is easy to preach pacifism when you are surrounded by a fkin ocean. You and Austria wich is surrounded by civilised nations. They too are "neutral" and preach peace every chance they get. Go to the middle east or get a borther with Russia. You pacifism will dissapear overnight 😅
