    This printer is literally what started my business. I always heard people say damn that’s slow or I would never buy that in the comments. Well it paid for itself in 5 months and the only printers that come close to the print resolution start about 3-4 X more expensive. Hands down the coolest printer I know that is obtainable for a starting business. I used rubber bands and a cardboard tube to make a rewinder before I knew you could even purchase something called a rewinder 😂. Ran that thing 24/7 I remover my wife and I taking shifts over night to load it. I never like it when people tell me I can’t do some thing so my drive to make it work with this printer was just that much stronger 💪. It’s a DX 7 head

      The con is people expect a racetrack ready car when they paid for a Honda Civic with a 4 cylinder motor. Sure it will get you around the track but don’t expect to win first place for fastest car in that race.
      I remember back when I got dial-up internet and couldn’t use the phone at the same time. Then I got DSL making calls and using the internet like a boss. Now I got 1TB internet and my kids get upset when a 500 MB file takes more than 5 minute to download while they have two TVs streaming movies and their computers playing video games with someone halfway around the earth. LOL 😂
      They want everything fast yet they are slow at physically getting up to do anything.

    oh man ! this just reminded me of those old thermal ribbon printers !! The company that made these was called calcomp, I bought one from a good friend, nobody had the ribbons for these and you had to get them from Italy !! before there was the internet !! The best Image producing / reproducing machine money could buy ! They used to have these smaller machines in print shops to make prepress proofs . . . oh man what a blast from the past ! Yeah BN's are good too, I was going to get one for a first machine but I lucked out ad got a VS 540 for a good price, running 8 colours including white and metallic the BNS are good in that they are supported by the newer versaworsks 6 which the older machines are not, one of my friends has one of these in his shop cranking out tshirt transfers, you CAN make DTF transfers with it too :-) for a little machine its packs a big punch, even if you have other printers, you can still have one of these sitting there just working in the background, what they probably mean about it being slow, is the cutting, as it uses a screw type mechanism for the cutter, for printing though its on par with the VS series as it as the same print head, but with the quality of print output from this, the slower cutting is negligible, not to mention faster ripping with versa works 6

    I got a CMYKW bn20 a few years ago. Hardly ever used the white and have since swapped out the white cartridge with a generic brand cleaning cartridge. Works just fine and no more buying white ink to essentially flush it into the waste tank.

    • @lablount2910
      @lablount2910 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey thanks this is something I’m wondering about. Previous owner used silver metallic and I don’t want to buy it so I need to fill that slot. So that works just fine when it runs? Would you eventually be able to use a different color like cyan since you’ve been running cleaner through it?

    • @Mr_Chuckles
      @Mr_Chuckles 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think you could only use the original that was removed, as the printer is programmed during installation. That fifth slot only takes Magenta, Metallic or White and a change needs a tech visit. In theory, the line can be flushed but it takes a lot of ink, and since there is no way to just flush the one "channel" you would be wasting all your other ink too. In my case, I considered it a permanent fix. If I really find myself needing white, BN20 are pretty cheap used or the new BN20A which is four times faster would be tempting :)@@lablount2910

    Hi! Am so grateful for your comments. I have been a designer for decades. Have gone from analog to digital in 1990.
    The BN20 is reasonable to use if the only problem is that it is 'slow'. I started out as a stencil cutter (no one does that
    anymore). There is a little local business that needs some custom packaging and am wondering if can use it for printing
    some boxes and cutting /creasing, too.
    Is it dependable. Does white and metallic work reasonably well?
    The packaging I want to help this business with is 80 lb. cover stock...218 or so gsm.
    Need to know if it will cut ok and hold up ...

    Agree with your statement here regarding the BN-20 being slow
    I will even ask those people “slower than what”
    It’s not an everyday regular desktop printer that you use at home or office.
    It’s a different printing technology.
    If you starting out with desktop printer, it’s obvious that you don’t have that much jobs to justify getting $23,000 or more printer. So what is your complaint really about.
    I have a Roland TrueVIS VG3-640 and a BN-20 printer. Prior to Covid lockdown, I had never considered getting the BN-20. However during Covid lockdown, I couldn’t enter the mall to print anything at my store where the TrueVIS VG3-640 was at. Therefore I got the BN-20 to use at home and yes it’s slow compared to TrueVIS VG3-640 but it got the job done especially for small decals. It made me money and I wasn’t waiting to nest a bunch of small print jobs before printing not to waste 40 inches of vinyl just to print a 20x20 decal. I was able to get smaller jobs out the door the same day and not looking at lots of waste.
    I tell you what, I wound out a BN-20 in under one year and on my second BN-20 in under two years. And you know what, I will be getting another when this one gives up.

    Literally just had this pop up in recommended as I've been looking at entry level laminated sticker printing.. the BN-20 caters for exactly what you spoke of; limited space and needing something compact.. the speed is a little irrelevant so long as the maintenance is down and quality is optimal. £3-5k is a little outside my budget for now - do you think there's any inkjet printer/vinyl cutter setups worth trying on a much lower budget or just save for one of them and don't bother until that point?
    I'm weighing up pros and cons of getting my own or to find a local print company to do the jobs for me in batch.. but you've put some good points up so far.

    Thank you for your video on this! I am seeking some direction with printers like this. I’m in the market to buy a white toner printer or a BN-20. I am an illustrator and I draw peoples cars for commissions. I take those illustrations and make die cut stickers and sell those on Etsy. Not a huge volume of stickers…but looking to grow.. also looking to print on clear vinyl hence the white toner interest. I would use it daily maybe ever other day possibly.
    So…is the bn-20 a good option for me? My only concern here is that you can’t die cut with the bn-20, only kiss cut. I want to fill cut out ehe sticker. Would a white toner printer work better for me to make stickers and shirts heat transfers?

Otherwise for regular sign and aito printing u print on white media mostly for it. @@DaPrintHouse I mean price wise. If you buy a $5000 printer and have to pay $2100 every time to replace that print head, your spending 84% of the original price every two replacements.
