Mugabe crushed the Zimbabweans who were funded by the west in attempts to overthrow his government so white can retain their economic power having lost their political power. Mugabe freed Zimbabwe from white subjugation, despite his imperfections.

The only other option available to the West in overthrowing Mugabe was military intervention (a war of regime came like what was done to Saddam Hussiem), but that option is politically problematic because of the neo colonialism it engenders, given Black Africa's historical issues with European imperialism in Africa. It will also be economic bad for the West because most of the technology manufactured by western multinational corporations like Apple require raw materials known as rare earth metals (nothing electronic can work without rare earth metals mostly found in Black African countries - google it). African nations that possess these materials will boycott the West and sell to China and other Asian economies. The rest of black Africa (Gaddafi was an Arab) will not accept white military intervention in Zimbabwe and would rally to Mugabe aide. It's a matter of African sovereignty over African land. That why Apartheid in Both Zimbabwe and South Africa could not be sustained by the white colonisers.
