This is the kind of adaptation Jane Austen deserves. Not the parody Netflix just did with Persuasion.

It was no surprise considering the americans in it with their complete disregard for quality and genuineness,it will always be the English,specifically the "old school" people to perfectly understand the refined nature and style of classic literature to adapt it in screenplay as for Netflix it's a woke,vain and antiwhite racist production company
I'm disappointed when I watched the version Netflix did for Persuasion! How on earth an Asian guy get inherited of the Elliott????? As Asian I still can't stand and hypnotized myself that an Asian looking portrait as English white man
Fun fact: For this movie, director Ang Lee spent six months in England prior to filming in an effort to steep himself in English culture and acclimatize himself to the British sense of humor.

For anyone who is interested, the music used in this trailer is from another 90s film set in the 18th century called Little Women, starring Winona Ryder.
Some of the supporting pieces are by Patrick Doyle a brilliant musician and composer. He set some of the beautiful 17th century poetry in this movie to music. He also had a cameo role in Much Ado about Nothing with Kenneth Branagh. Patrick wrote the score for that movie too, he sings “ Sigh No More” in the film.
The soundtrack to the 1994 Little Women is beautiful.
I've had the CD for almost 30 years now, and the music still touches me every time I play it.
Credit should be given where credit is due; the song used in this trailer is called Orchard House, and it was composed by Thomas Newman for Little Women, which was released in 1994 - one year before Sense and Sensibility was released.
Both are wonderful movies.
Watching this repeatedly on Netflix gave me so much courage and inspiration. This movie is the reason I remember loving Jane Austen.
Then you watch Pride & Prejudice 1995 mini series. You will love Austen even more.

This is one of the movies I put on when I’m working. Seen it so many times, it becomes comforting noise when I’m on a project or cleaning the house. Brilliant novel and film (this one not the garbage that came later)

This is why I love Jane Austin I swear most of her characters was written with the idea of me and my life even though I'm centuries decades apart from them lol 😊. Love will always be something different 😢.
i read pride and prejudice in the middle school and later on i picked sense and sensibility. Ever way I was more like Elinor my past was nearer to Mariannes. I could always understand her pain and emotional/mental grow.
This film was absolutely loaded with talent. Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, Hugh Grant and Alan Rickman make up a dream cast IMO, and the other parts were played by great actors as well. Most fans already know that the director Ang Lee is a genius. Incidentally, Gemma Jones, who plays Elinor's and Marianne's mother, starred in a wonderful miniseries in the 1970s titled "The Duchess of Duke Street," which I highly recommend.
Back when films were well made and actors were respectable.

Never understood why the soundtrack from Little Women was used for this trailer. I remember seeing this trailer so often on a VHS I had as a kid that whenever I hear this song I think of this
The score for this film probably wasn’t completed yet when the trailer came out. It happens frequently. They use a score from another film with the same vibe, or try to make the audience think it’s going to be similar.
Its rumoured that the 2nd trailer for SMNWH will come before 17 November
This is my favorite adaptation and love it even more after I found out that Emma Thompson and Willoughby (Greg Wise) are married in real life.
Plot twist : this is the real second trailer , it opens with peter still trying to hide his identity from the public , so dr. Strange transports him to go late 1890s and early 1900s .
