  • Let us delve into a twist of fate, my dears. The Dashwoods, upon receiving surprising news of Lucy Steele and Mr. Ferrars' engagement, mistakenly assume it's Edward Ferrars (Hugh Grant). However, Edward himself arrives, dispelling this misunderstanding. This turn of events unburdens Edward, allowing him to finally propose to his beloved Elinor (Emma Thompson).
    📩 / @movingpicsofficial
    🎬Sense and Sensibility (1995): When Elinor Dashwood's (Emma Thompson) father dies, her family's finances are crippled. After the Dashwoods move to a cottage in Devonshire, Elinor's sister Marianne (Kate Winslet) is torn between the handsome John Willoughby (Greg Wise) and the older Colonel Brandon (Alan Rickman). Meanwhile, Elinor's romantic hopes with Edward Ferrars (Hugh Grant) are hindered due to his prior engagement. Both Elinor and Marianne strive for love while the circumstances in their lives constantly change.

    Two centuries after it was first written, this scene remains resonant - especially through this phenomenal adaptation with these fantastic actors - because it represents the fulfillment of a fantasy that we all have at some point in our lives (even though it isn’t always fulfilled in real life) … The fantasy that someone, for whom you believe you harbor a deep unrequited love, comes to your doorstep and confesses that they’ve actually loved you back all this time. A universal dream.

    Emma Thompson is really an excellent actress! My two
    Most favorite scenes were when a sick Maryann confronts Elinor about Lucy Steele and Elinor’s response was epic! Also when the doctor said that they should prepare for the worst due to Maryann’s condition and Elinor cried and held her hand and said @Maryann dearest, please live for I cannot do without you” not an exact quote but the gist. I cried at both scenes! They were sooo well done by Emma! Really excellent acting

    For all of us who adore this clip and have watched it more often then we care to admit (happy to admit it been many many times) I would like everyone to take a look at the acting skill of Gemma Jones in the moment Margaret says "he is kneeling down". Beautiful Kate Winslet is lovely in that moment and does what most good actors would do which is bring her hand to her mouth but Gemma Jones goes to a whole new level. She transitions through so many emotions before hugging her daughter - joy, relief, expectation, gratitude and sheer love. Its a masterclass in REACTING not acting. She is deeply undervalued in the appreciation of this film. The entire cast is superb and her performance is really worth focusing on the next time you view it.

    That is one of the most romantic scenes in any film I've watched.
    Her longing for Edward continued even when she thought he was married.
    She was completely overwhelmed by emotions when Edward confessed his love for her.
    By contrast Willoughby was a rake. Processing his love for the other sister not by words but by actions.
    Rides in the country, long walks, reciting poetry and the biggest of all taking a sniper of her hair. That was huge on those days.
    Willoughby was able to seduce women at a time when all women longed for a righteous man.

    Can't believe this scene has 800k views!... I'm a guy in my 30s, I watched the film a week ago for the first time and I happened to adore every character of this movie, and this final scene makes me happy, I guess I found a romantic movie that I believe is worth watching. Elinor had all my sympathy all along the story.

    Emma Thompson is beautiful and perfect for Elinor. As long as I see comments age-shaming her in this movie calling her too old, I’m gonna do the same with Alan Rickman and Hugh Grant.

    • @codename495
      @codename495 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Oh calm down. Elinor was supposed to be 19 years old. She doesn’t look 19 no matter how much girl power you look through. She played the role beautifully but if you read the book before you saw the movie it’s an easy issue to spot.

    • @Girl-rj3qe

      @@codename495 I know, but Colonel Brandon is 35 and not 50 and Alan Rickman doesn’t get as much criticism for that. I just visited facebook with a post this movie and many commented Emma’s age while I’m one of the few people to point out Rickman is too old as well. That’s why I’m cringing at all his fangirls for this movie. It’s the double standards I dislike. Hugh Grant looks too old to be believable for 23 as well

    Thinking about the whole story, the tradition of much older men marrying young women, and the women not being able to inherit land and property, seems quite cruel at the end of life.

    • @harringt100
      @harringt100 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      There were some circumstances under which women _did_ inherit. In _Sense and Sensibility_ Mr. Dashwood can't provide for his daughters or second wife from the Norland estate because it doesn't even fully belong to him to begin with.
      And if you think about it, at the time, _most_ people in England were a lot worse off than the Dashwood sisters. Compared to having to scrape a meager living from pennies earned on manual labor, having to watch your budget and live simply until you can find a husband with an estate...doesn't sound _so_ bad.(?) But yeah, economic opportunities definitely were unequally distributed among the men and women of the landed classes.
