    I'm using the Vox MV50 AC as my main amp for everything these days - home use, band practice, gigging... Sounds great! I'm running it through a ported 1x12 cab with a 4 ohm Jensen Neo 12 100 watt speaker. After getting the MV50, I sold my Line 6 DT25 head which was previously my main amp. No FX loop is a small pain but it's not a super gainy head and my dirt comes from pedals - great sounding, super portable rig!

    I am an old school amp guy, so effects loops are not in my list of requirements. So, the lack of loop is no issue for me. To make best use of my pedalboard, the Clean is ideal - I am loving it. And the AC (which I also own) sounds great all on its own (for those times I just want to bring a guitar and amp). The videos I have heard of the Rock and Boutique were uninspiring. And the High gain is not my thing, but seems to do what it should.
    I especially like the extra features on the Clean - separate bass and treble controls, and 3 position attenuator. These little MV50's have changed my approach to amps. I am not giving up my tube amps, but they won't get dragged out as often when one of these will do the job.

    I do like the sounds in both amps. I think they even sound better than a lot of low to mid-range modelling amps. However, to be useful they need to take this technology and integrate it into a multi-fx pedal where programmable presets, along with the additional tone, effects and output options could make it shine. Well, for my uses anyway.

    For your next blind fold challenge you should see if Chappers can tell Gibson's with tapping coils from Fenders. Throw some pedals to help with the sound. I debate this with a lot of people. They say they can tell, but I have a pretty basic pedal set up and I believe I get a close enough approximation. If anyone has the ear to call it, Chappers definitely does and with some pedals to help out it will actually be a challenge for him. I know this isn't a blind fold video, but I'm too lazy to find one so I just posted here.
    And I love the Boutique critique.

    bothers me that noone in the comments or in many of the videos that i've seen regarding these little amps is talking about the gigging capabilities with these little things. if you plug into a 4ohm cab you can play almost any live situation without being mic'd up to the PA. remember, 4ohms you get the FULL 50watts, 8 ohms you get 25, and 16ohms you go down to 12.5 watts. these are extremely versatile for the price..... but hey, what do i know? i'm just another guy somewhere in the deep realms of the internet making a comment on a youtube video. haha cheers everyone. I have two 60 Watt 4 ohm 1x12 cabs at home, so If I bought two of these and an ab pedal, could I gig with them (mic'd up), for crowds about 50-100 strong? Trying to find a way of having two channels that sound totally different *i.e clean with chorus, slap back, octave and reverb; and a high gain disgusting rhythm tone switchable via one button.
    Trying to find a solution that saves me having to buy new cabs or an expensive looper system, with a view to upgrading over time.

  • @kentonschroer2347
    @kentonschroer2347 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Really just look at the second definition of boutique and it is the accurate use when related to the amps.
    Also everyone complaining, do you really use effects loops that often? I never use one... ever. I tend to not like effects loops at all. All just a different taste. I would wager that most touring musicians don’t bother with an effects loop unless they have a rack or specialized switching system.

    Hi all. I know that this episode is about the Hi Gain and Boutique but I’d like to add to someone else’s comment/question about the Clean MV50. This may also clear up a question that many people would have asked; “Are these little amps loud enough to gig with?” Well I can categorically tell you YES!, these amps have more than enough guts to cut it with a band. I took the leap of faith based on your demo and spent the Aus $279 on the Clean version and I’m super impressed. I’m running through my Line 6 Pod HD500x and then into a 2x12 4ohm cab. I took it along to my gig last Saturday night at a medium sized venue, decent sized PA with a good sized crowd. Our drummer’s on stage volume is average as drummers go but his snare cuts through like a shotgun. I also took my trusty 25kg, 120w all valve head in case the Vox wasn’t going to cut it. I can tell you that I didn’t even plug the big head in! The MV50 has more than enough headroom. I had the volume at about 11 o’clock without any guitar in my stage monitor all night and it sounded amazing. I am totally sold! No more carrying around the super heavy all valve head! It is a shame about no FX loop or reverb but the size/weight trade off is more than worth it to me. These amps are real quality and amazingly priced and this is coming from a veteran of over 1000 cover band gigs.

    Nutube still just sounds like solid state amp distortion to me. When I play a Peavey bandit for example I don't touch the drive channel because a half decent od pedal is way better into it. Surely you could just get a vox Pathfinder and an Od pedal for the same money?

  • @isthereanybodyoutthere9397
    @isthereanybodyoutthere9397 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can't the pedals be placed after the Vox? If so, this overcomes the reverb issue surely?

  • @stanthony06
    @stanthony06 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Lee, cast your mind back to NAMM2018. The Boutique model is voiced 'like' a $70k amp that rhymes with Mumble or Fumble. The 'Deep' switch is designed to improve the tone when used with the BC108 cab - 'Flat' is for larger 1x12 or 2x12 cabs.

  • @semikolon6440
    @semikolon6440 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Got the Rock as my main head, sounds amazing! (With a 2x12 and just some boost/EQ in front) Everyone thinks it’s a funny little thing - until they hear it :D
    50W is more than enough for rehearsals and live, so one of the best bang for buck ampy stuff out there if you like/can cope with the simplicity. I find that simplicity a plus bzw, no „choice overload“ ^^

    How about a tiny amp comparison? Hotone Nano Legacy vs Mooer Little Monster vs Vox MV50. Or Vox MV50 with affordable £100 cab versus the Vox Super Beetle amp and cab set as the price would be very similar and the Super Beetle has reverb built in.
