    I'd like to see an amp demo where a baseline tone is engineered and the goal would be to see if the amps featured could dime it. Reason being is it's very likely every single amp featured here could give Chap the tone he likes with manipulation of each head's EQ options. Even the ridiculous gain of the EVH could have been turned down and it's likely he might have given it a higher score. With as much options as the Kemper and Boogie have, it's limiting to set everything at 12 and judge from that alone, albeit it creates a fun video to watch, no doubt. For me, the EVH's gain was right in my wheelhouse and the Victory/Friedman wasn't far behind but if given a choice for a freebie, I'm choosing the Kemper.

    • @ithemba
      @ithemba 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      well its a question of taste really. the EVH has a certain high mids - treble bite or hiss to it that you just have to like I guess - and thats obviously not Robs cup of tea. I guess I wouldn't enjoy playing one on itself - but I imagine its killer in the band, as I find myself regularly dialing in this kind of frequencies. Also a friend of mine plays one live and I really like his live tone.

    The mark v really comes into its own when it’s set up properly , especially the EQ, it’s hard to dial in for most , so 12 oclocks dont di it justice .

    • @FredBrum
      @FredBrum 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Compared to the old Marks like the II or III it's a breeze to adjust, to be honest, but agreed it's definitely not a "set everything to noon and go" type of amp.

    • @themaggot8

    Obviously this is just a characteristic of Rob’s personality, not that it’s a bad thing, but I think his attempt to guess each amp brand instead of just judging each one by its high gain sounds kind of throws off the “blind” aspect & overall purpose of this test

    @MaestroJericho 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Friedman and EVH for me, H&Ks to me sound very sterile but come loaded with features which are a pain in the ass for techs, I don't think this Victory or Friedman are the right choices though. Imo should have been the full Mesa Mark V 90w, EVH 5150 Stealth, Victory Super Kraken, and a Friedman JJ or Butterslax for high gain. Throw a Marshall JVM and Peavey 6505+/Invective in there which don't cost as much but imo set the standards.

      yes and Capt gave him the middle finger at the beginning as well to which rob replied immediatly with a middle finger as well even though blindfolded.

    When is part two coming out? All of these are way out of my price range and would not go down well with the neighbours. I wonder if they watch these back to see all the hand gestures being flicked around while the blindfolds are on. More exploding mugs please, p-ss myself everytime!

    I'd probably get a Hughes & Ketner for it's looks, a Mesa Boogie for it's features, and a Kemper can be any of those amps, so a Kemper for functionality.
    If I could afford any of those amps that is...😂🤣

    • @tyleraho2485

      I recomend if there is a proper amp you really like to consider looking for used or financing. nothing is quite like having THAT amp you alwyas wanted. serious boost in morale and excitement to play.

    • @allstopblue5717
      @allstopblue5717 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah I got my Kemper using 12 month payment plan from Zzounds. I could never drop that much money in one lump sum. There's no interest and doesn't affect your credit. I've done it through Sweetwater as well. I checked with a friend who works at my bank to see if it was affecting my credit since supposedly they pull your credit score to approve you. She said there's no signs of anything they do affecting my credit. Which is great! You just use your regular debit card.

      Kemper for sound. You could have a midi switch and have everything from Vox to Mesa in one head.

      Who buys an amp for looks? Apply yourself and get a descent paying job and learn how to manage your money! Then, go to a music shop and try out some amps instead of trusting your decision to a youtube video. Until then, your opinion equals shit!

    This is the best blind test I have seen in a while. A man who obviously has chops and pretty well knows the "feel" of how the various amps respond to his playing VERSUS the blind sound of the amps in a room. I expected him to recognize and love the sound of the Victory amp right away, since he is VERY familiar with that sound. No surprises there. And once again, the Kemper is clearly demonstrated to be the current pinnacle of modeling technology.

    Something about the first choice always getting a 7/10 kind of bugs me. Happens in nearly all of these videos, and it's kind of understandable since you haven't had something to compare it to, and everything after the first item will be pit against that one, and it's like concerts: the opening band isn't going to wow you and you're going to be comparing how much better everything was to that so you're just gonna give it a safe, non-committal score. Not a slight on your methods or anything, just seems to be the way blind tests like this always work no matter who's doing them.
    But maybe to even out the playing field a little and not give one item in these blindfold tests an unfair disadvantage, perhaps next time you do a blindfold challenge, why not pick something kind of "generic", but not in the bad sense, but just something that serves as a really easy baseline comparison like, for the example of this video, a Boss Katana or Marshall DSL20 would have sufficed. Have the blindfolded person aware of that baseline item, and then everything is compared to some known variable as a baseline instead of to whatever the poor item that has to go first happens to be.
    But also I'm just kind of peeved the H&K scored so low. :P

  • @BoozyBeggar
    @BoozyBeggar 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You can't have a Mesa or a Marshall with everything at 12, those eq knobs usually only bring in a frequency, rather than a boost/cut with middle being neutral. Bad form.

  • @motothumper5598

    Get rid of the blindfold and make a cardboard hobo box that surrounds the player. At least then they can play some decent stuff. ROb did a great job but it would just make for a better vid.

    It became more about guessing amps than which was his favourite which is a shame. Would have been nice to have someone like Pete / Joss for some more interesting playing rather than just investigative probing.

    This just shows that the Friedman is the most amazing, in terms of sound, and the fact that it doesn't need a noise-gate as Chappers thought it sounded noiseless enough.
