I grew up with a vinyl 33 1/3 LP recording with Arthur Rubinstein in the 1950's. It was wonderful then and still is. A masterpiece of romantic symphonic music. It a mystery why it is obscure.
Beethoven demanded that Weber come to see him. Weber eagerly obeyed the Master and they met in 1823. He came despite a fierce thunderstorm. Who would know more about a composer than Beethoven?
WOW! just wonderful! i don't know if anyone noticed, but here weber proves that he is at least 50 years ahead of beethoven and sounds more like bruckner. fantastic fragment!.
This was the piece that introduced me to CMV Weber...performed by Melvyn Tan....what a magnificent composition. Nice to finally hear someone else's rendition.
I always liked Carl Maria von Weber ~ but this piece of music is more than I ever expected from him. Wonderfully interpreted by one of my favorite pianists ~ and of course Claudio Abbado. Thank you for this marvelous addition to my favorites!
In spite of I really like music from Romantic German School, I had never listened to Carl Maria von Weber. I'm really thankful right now for this beautiful piece of sublime music. Thanks so much my friend.
I love Weber. The first concert I ever attended included 'Konzertstuck' and it's to date one of my favorite piano pieces of all times. - Very clear recording!

Here are the sections of the work, and their programmatic allusions: (F minor; Larghetto affetuoso): "A châtelaine sits alone on her balcony, gazing off in the distance. Her knight has gone on a Crusade to the Holy Land. Years have passed, battles have been fought; is he still alive? Will she ever see him again?" (F minor; Allegro passionato): "Her excited imagination summons a vision of her noble husband lying wounded and forsaken on the battlefield. Could she not fly to his side and die with him? She falls back, unconscious. Then from the distance comes the sound of a trumpet. There in the forest something flashes in the sunlight as it comes nearer and nearer" (C major: Tempo di marcia): "Knights and squires, with the Crusaders' cross and banners waving, are acclaimed by the crowd. And there her husband is among them! She sinks into his arms." (F major, Presto giocoso): "Happiness without end! The woods and waves sing a song of love, while a thousand voices proclaim its victory".
You have a very fine ear, absolutely right. All great composers took stimulations from other great composers by borrowing small themes. At 7:20 Weber is using the introduction of the fourth movement of his own piano sonata no. 2
Stupenda ,meravigliosa ed estremamente romantica composizione.
Ich habe dieses Konzert schon immer geliebt❤

this is such a romantic masterpiece from Weber. Can't deny he is one of the most under-rated composer.
agree

Brendel does a smashing job playing this virtuosic piece by Weber !
Himmlische Perlenmusik!

Eine zeitlose Aufnahme! Alles Gute zum 90. Geburtstag, Maestro!

This is a most beautiful rendering by Alfred Brendel!

Love that mix of classical clarity and romantic explosion.

One of the two best stereo recordings of this piece, the other by Pletnev, of all people!

BRAVOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
wonderful interpretation, that stands out as the best ever, probably the only concurrent is the famous cbs set with casadesus and szell.
Beginning of Clara Schumann's piano sonata sounds like the beginning of this piece..
ARRAU!
What??? Not Arrau !!! Alfred Brendel & Claudio Abbado / LSO from my CD!
Wanted to say I like the Arrau performance much more!
Or the even better version with Casadesus & Bigot, from 1935.
5:50 Beethoven's Tempest Sonata ;)

Weber, this overture of Schumann...
5.50 - Beethoven!
