Ah the good old confused bopping !!! I missed this feeling snsnnsn Though I have to say, I had a much easier time listening and watching this MV than the ‘Ditto’ ones. While yes, the context still remains quite concerning and weird and confusing, this one felt a lot more lighthearted in its execution and realisation too! Ditto felt creepy and this one calls out fucked up situation in my eyes. I have to admit that because I decided to focus so much on the MV, I never get to fully appreciate the song and vocals to the max on the first listening and so right now I have to say that the MV left a bigger impact on me that the song itself. However I can say still that I really really liked this song, it reminded me SO MUCH of another song (especially the oh my oh my god part) but I can’t for the life of me put my finger on it! It’s so incredibly smooth and easy to listen to, super soft but poppy! I think one of the things that captivates me so much about NJ is the contrast between the intricacy of the MV and how simple sounding/easy to listen to their songs are if that makes sense! You get tricked as a listener almost!
This comeback to me was like they mixed great music, great vocals and dance, interesting styling, great execution of story line and philosophical question, sprinkled with confusing theories nsnsnsn But it gives my brain the tingle so once again, I’m not mad about not getting it, I enjoy the challenge at hand. And now that I fell into that rabbit hole, I am willingly digging even deeper and I’ve got no intention of trying to climb back up!

Min Heejin, their CEO, does not like to use promotions, teasers or ads. They frustrate a lot of their fandom but it’s working so far. Definitely liking the longer MVs though. Felt like companies were just making short vids so fans could stream more rather than just making the music good.

Creative MVs with storylines really needed a comeback. All the artists around the world stopped doing them so NJ doing them just feels fresh all over again.
Yes I am so happy to see more storylines that in music videos that actually feel like storylines like the rookie groups of Billlie, New Jeans, kind of LeSserafim.
•Also, other groups like Red Velvet and Aespa, Loona, Dreamcatcher have storylines too. I am sure I missed more K-pop groups.

As u all can see the opening lyrics is THIS SOMG IS ABOUT YOU their is a meaning about that because this MV is about how people see NEW JEANS as a group the mental asylum is portrayed as our brains like how we see MINJI in MV she is a doctor and caring for everyone in real life fans also see her like that and then HAERIN that some people call her cat so the cat portraying her many people see DANIELLE as most talented or we can say an idol and some people see HANNI as all rounder who can do all the things u want just like SIRI and HYEIN some people see her as a princess and we can see another scene where she wearing a unique styling of clothes that's what some people say she is a pick me girl because of her styling and in the end it was a hater who writing a comment so MINJI say time's up because the whole MV is our mind only

(My interpretation of this) For me this MV is about idol-fan relationship from an idol's perspective. They take on the identities assigned by the public: Haerin is a cat (fans love comparing the idols they like to cute animals), Minji as the doctor (the one who takes care of the group, the leader, the "mom"), Hyein as a princess (fantasies and visuals). Now Hanni is important to introduce this whole concept through an iPhone metaphor, she says "It doesn't matter who I am anymore, I exist for you" and Dani is that voice in your head that tries to pull you out to reality, they're not this or that, they're New Jeans.
That's a really persuasive interpretation.

And shortly after OMG mv was out, NewJeans appeared his live stream.
This is like a message in the whole music video. Through this attempts, they're trying to break The Fourth Wall.
They keep saying that NewJeans exists in reality and that fans need to be aware of it.
DITTO AND OMG BOTH SIGNIFIES THE IDOL AND FAN RELATIONSHIP.
Let's break these into 2:
OMG MV: OMG basically represents the idols' perspective as a K-Pop Idol. In the OMG MV, the 3 of the members are acting as someone they are not (Hanni as an iPhone, Haerin as a cat, and Hyein as a Princess). Acting as someone they are not simply signifies the Kpop Groups' concept culture. Danielle, on the other hand, seems to be in the middle. She said that they are just acting for an MV but she was also not sure because she might be going insane, and she was the first one to break the fourth wall because it seemed like the 3 members are already too deep in their characters which is driving the 3 insane as well. They are all in a psychiatric hospital too. Minji, on the other hand, represents the leaders in Kpop Groups. There was a scene wherein the Minji from Attention MV said, "All right, stop", and I think that is Minji knowing how to have control in her life as a kpop idol. She then became as the doctor of NewJeans at the end of OMG MV, which signifies her leadership in their group NewJeans. The lyrics of OMG can also be interpreted as the Idol/Fan Relationship just search for an English Translation
Ditto MV: Ditto represents the fans' perspective towards K-Pop groups. I ask all of u to also search the English translation of Ditto lyrics and it can literally signify an obsessed fan's perspective towards a k-pop group (but it can also signify a love interest which I think is cool, same with OMG lyrics). The Ditto MV has the main character, Heesoo, which was said to represent the fans because of her name. She uses the camera to symbolize escapism (which is relevant in fan culture). The guy in the Ditto MV represents Heesoo's reality (if u think ab it, they were literally just flirting if u combine their scenes, they even got together at the end of Side B). Lastly, Newjeans simply represents the idols. They appear literally everywhere in Heesoo's life and comforts her (there was a scene wherein Newjeans were comforting Heesoo in the MV).

this is my take on it- the music video was just a camp way of expressing the idol's side of the parasocial relationship between an artist and a fan.
hanni's monologue in the beginning really brings that to light: "when you call me, i will run to you anytime anywhere. i exist for you"
it brings the concern of artists having to exist only for the fans- they're trying to say they're *real* people too. she's an "iphone", basically a metaphor for being a person who has to run and be 'on' when the button (app) is pushed.
danielle is very smily/bubbly type of person. fans always comment on her happy attitude and when she's watching the tv static and laughing at it, i think it shows that she's stuck in the label that people cast on her. so she's just laughing at nothing in that scene.
hyein has princess syndrome, because while always trying to dress up and be her prettiest self for the fans, she forgets reality and confuses herself with fairytales. (snow white, sleeping beauty, and the revenant references)
haerin- ever since debut, fans and nonfans have said haerin looks like a cat so much that she actually starts to believe she's a cat.
minji is the unofficial leader of the group (there are no positions in nwjns, but a lot of people and myself included think she has leadership qualities) and she's the oldest. so she's been known to take care of her members very well. hence her thinking she is a doctor who's under pressure to take care of her members.
i think the team at ador and hybe are VERY self aware of media and newjeans' market. they know what people say about newjeans!! this is their first comeback and only 5 months since their debut and they're already challenging the industry and doing callbacks to their debut! a MASTERPEICE of a music video, and the song is 10/10! i love the breaking of the 4th wall, i love how they called out their haters at the end of the video, i love hanni dressed as steve jobs. i mean, this video has it all- humor, weird/quirkyness, references, callbacks, serious topic, lore, introspection, thought provoking... no one is doing it like newjeans. i mean that literally, this has never been done before.
It is an introspective song. It is about how they feel are being perceived by the public. Fears, sadness, dreams and hopes is mixed in the song. Sometimes they do not know who are really are, but they want to share the best of them.
Ban Heeseo with the members in a school life in ditto is portraying the fan's imaginary closeness with the group. While in OMG it's portraying the idol's image of how being one is so hard you'll lose yourself, additionally people see you as different versions. We and Minji imagining herself as a doctor since she's the leader taking care of others, Hyerin as princess/snow white and Ban Heeseo also said something about her princess syndrome, Danni as the prince, Haerin as a cat, Hanni as iPhone/Siri. They also changed multiple times in a scene (soldier, kids, etc.) from a patient's pov. Lastly, the ending is a bit weird about the drawings, but I realized Haerin always draw things and this drawings were brought to life and affect the real world, like how their works and songs are brought to life by tokkis/bunnies and affects lives.

I like how NewJeans mv talks about Mental health awareness and how it affects idols. They are the first idols to ever do anything like this and which is why they are the best group ever! They are so relatable and down to earth, and they don’t brag about their money, fame, brands, they don’t wear fancy clothes (except for photoshoots) they don’t wear tiaras/crowns nor do they sit on thrones acting like they are untouchable and they are the boss of everyone. I’m just so tired of the “boss girl” “girl crush” type of songs. NewJeans don’t show how much money they have and they don’t put on a fake persona. It’s really hard to relate to idols and like them because they may show a good side of them when the cameras are on but people don’t know how they REALLY are when the cameras are off. NewJeans show that they are just regular girls and that alone is unbeatable and amazing! They are indeed the best group ever in kpop!❤️ Newjeans are so unique and different in their own way that no one in Kpop could ever recreate.

Newjeans‘s producer was SM's Art producer(correct me if im wrong), I think she always has the mysterious chill vibe as she has done a lot for Red Velvet, I see many Red Velvet mystery-materials in Newjeans story lines/ MV. Goin back to Ditto, everyone pretty much assumes its from the POV of a fan and their parasocial relationship with idols. The girl filming in the video = Ban Heesoo = Bunnies = NJ fandom. And in the start of this mv Hanni was reaching out to the bunnies askin what do we want her to do for us.
And OMG is from the POV of idols who lose their self identities, partially due to fans always applying an image to an idol even if the idol is nothing like that at all. In this video, Minji is the doctor/leader identity and gen pop koreans think, as one of the oldest, she should lead the group. Hanni is the people pleaser who will do whatever it takes to please the fans. Haerin is representing how people apply animals or colors or fruits to idols even if it doesn't match the person at all. Everyone calls her a cat due to her eyes. Hyein is like the princess because people think she has to be taken care of really delicately due to her age (which is pretty true) and she's slowly losing who she is. And I Danielle is representing the one idol who can separate reality from the fandom/group. She knows at the end of the day they are just New Jeans, but people think that's crazy/not enough.

Yes, thinking THE FOURTH WALL. Replacing Hanni's identity confusion word "I-Phone" with "IDOL" helps. EACH girl also revealsI their imagined identities shown in the video one by one. Watching the video more than once helps. Concentrating on details is important in this. We can enjoy this merely as playful fantasy. But when we go deeper, it's got many many messages between playful, creative, and social critique. The BEAR people are confused by because they need to read all the TITLES on the BOOK INDEX shown in the video. If you don't know the movies, the BEAR is in one of those movies, etc. etc. ---- Details, enjoyment. WHAT AN MV and SONG! Awesome.

I think hidden meaning in OMG mv are the view of adults, they see NewJeans stuck in the dreams. Story describes the view of them, it has the question “Guys, you really remember?” And Dani said we’re NewJeans. It’s like the dream of 5 girls success. The last the doctor(adults) see the cartoon in real life that tell them the dream of children is real.

Did anyone notice that when Hanni was explaining how she believes she is an iPhone and she when she was showing the messages app she was sending a message and the message said "Heesoo please answer the phone" and heesoo is the name of the girl who was recording behind the camera in ditto the music video that was imagining the New Jeans members
I feel like the member believing they are different things represents what the fans see them as for example haerin is known in the fandom for resembling a cat for her cat eyes, hyein is known for her beauty and her modeling career minji as the oldest member she is like the stereotype mother and caring of the group so I think they represent how idols sort of try to become what their fans want them to become and sort of loose themselves on the way. As for Danielle She is maybe only identifying herself as an idol and is the only things she can think about.
Hanni - Her's was explicitly outline, she believes she is Siri or an iPhone. Basically, she believes she is a device meant to best service others.
Minji - She believes herself to be a doctor, trying to cure the other members and putting them all in an ambulance, but also herself. We she this when she walks up to 'herself,' squatting on the road, and puts herself in the ambulance taking all the girls to the hospital. Maybe she is taking on the burden of finding cures, or comfort for other.
Hyein - She is depicted as thinking of herself as a princess, or a character from fictional books. We see this as she is presented in the role of a modern-day Cinderella, while Danielle plays her Prince Charming. We see Danielle wooing Hyein, and then then the clock, or in this case Apple watch, striking 12 and Hyein runs away in a subway 'carriage.' We also see her depicted as Snow White, who eats a poisoned apple and then wakes up not to a prince but a bear. Maybe this combines the Goldilocks story, where Goldilocks steals the bears bed. Hyein seems to have regret for this decision, as she looks at a teddy bear forlornly later.
Haerin - She is very aptly playing a cat. She seems to think of herself as one, as in one seen all the other four girls gaze at a cat, and she can later be seen eating what I think is cat food as the other members again watch on.
Danielle - We first see Danielle laugh and point at a TV playing static. This sets her up, for later in the video where she is revealed to have the delusion of thinking she is NewJeans or an idol. We see her insisting to the others they are a girl group shooting a music video, and then a medley of videos of NewJeans play. This all ends when Minji in the Attention video says, 'All right, stop.' This is as if, Minji in her role as the doctor, as infiltrated Danielle's deluded memories and is asking her to stop for now.
There are lots of other fun things to interpret in the video, but I think it is essentially trying to send the message that in a digital age we are desperately trying to connect to others, but we do so through fake personas and identities, failing then to form real relationships.

That "ownership" of an idol/celebrity - I agree with you. There was a recent tweet of Bad Bunny having an incident where a "fan" shoved a phone in his face and he just took it and threw it away. He posted a statement saying if fans come up to him, respectfully, and talk to him, then he will engage, but if, like that other "fan", they just shove the phone in his face to take a video, he's not having it. And I read some ARMY fans are like "THIS!" whereas other comments were, well he's a celebrity, he asked for this life. I'm with you, you do NOT own the idol/celebrity, that person belongs to themselves. I believe there is an element of that in this MV (that isn't what the entire MV is about, but an element of that).
