- WE'RE BACK! It was obvious that we had to follow up and watch another one of NewJeans music videos after our first reaction to 'Ditto'. We had ALOT to unpack!! We had so much fun analysing the imagery in the video and finding out the different connections with their past songs. Could reviewing Kpop music videos become a new hobby for us!?

민희진 기자회견부터 여기까지 왔다..
어디까지나 사람들의 추측이기는 하지만
디토랑 omg 뮤비는 하이브랑 민희진 사이의 갈등이랑 하이브 방시혁의 사이비 사상을 고발하는 내용이라고 추측하고 있어요
다들 그런 내용 모르고 뮤비를 봤을 땐 스토리가 이상하다는 평이 많았는데
이제서야 뮤비 스토리가 이해간다는 사람들이 많아진 거 같아요
정말 신기한게 한국어를 하는 외국분들은 모국어 억양이 묻어나게 마련인데 이 두분은 억양이 한국인 억양을 그대로 하는게 너무 신기하네요;;
언어 천재분들이신듯..
one theory that really makes sense to me is that ditto is exploring the negatives of parasocial relationships in the kpop industry for fans and omg is exploring the negative side for idols, that in the end both suffer in different ways. in ditto you see the girl always recording newjeans so that would be the fans being too obsessed with their idols to the point that they forget about the real world and then idols being everything the fans want them to be, even if it means losing their own identity (newjeans) thats why you see them act out these different characters in the omg music video.
The third person other than the NewJeans members who appears in Ditto's music video is Min Hee-jin, the producer of NewJeans. Due to conflict with Hybe, she decides to leave Hybe and drops the camcorder filming NewJenes with. Now that she's gone, she looks to the remaining NewJeans members in Hybe. After much thought, she reunites with the NewJeans members, and she and NewJeans leave Hybe to be together.
Hybe and Min Hee-jin are currently in a dispute, and she predicted this situation a year ago and depicted it in the Ditto music video.

뉴진스=아이돌을 대중들의 입맛에 맞게 소비되어지는 ‘도구=아이폰’ 혹은 ‘인형=doll(idol)’로 묘사한 것 같네요. 거기에서 발생되는 사람들의 시선과 악플 때문에 오는 스트레스와 정신적인 문제를 다룬 것 같아요 ㅎㅎ
Sharing thoughts about their MV.
This is my take on it- the music video was just a camp way of expressing the idol's side of the parasocial relationship between an artist and a fan.
Hanni's monologue in the beginning really brings that to light: "when you call me, i will run to you anytime anywhere. i exist for you"
it brings the concern of artists having to exist only for the fans- they're trying to say they're real people too. she's an "iphone", basically a metaphor for being a person who has to run and be 'on' when the button (app) is pushed.
Danielle is very smily/bubbly type of person. fans always comment on her happy attitude and when she's watching the tv static and laughing at it, i think it shows that she's stuck in the label that people cast on her. so she's just laughing at nothing in that scene.
Hyein has princess syndrome, because while always trying to dress up and be her prettiest self for the fans, she forgets reality and confuses herself with fairytales. (snow white, sleeping beauty, and the revenant references).
Haerin ever since debut, fans and nonfans have said Haerin looks like a cat so much that she actually starts to believe she's a cat.
Minji is the unofficial leader of the group (there are no positions in Newjeans, but a lot of people and myself included think she has leadership qualities) and she's the oldest. so she's been known to take care of her members very well. hence her thinking she is a doctor who's under pressure to take care of her members.

Being constantly in the public eye brings idols in danger of losing themselves, their real identity gets replaced by fans' perception and expectations of them, and they no longer know what's real and what's not.
Their MVs are all about the relationship between them and their fans. They need attention from their fans, and they don't want to lose their dream and naivety as the time passes and they get older. Sometimes free imagination and creativity can be considered weirdity and social maladjustment.

I loved that you guys got to see the final scene LOL. At first i was like NOOOO there's a final scene but hten you guys shared your thoughts and then the final scene was revealed...it was almost better this way because you got to see the scene after sharing some thoughts you guys had that was sort of referenced in the final scene. I'm torn on the mental health scene. I do feel it serves the story in some way and its not doing anything to poke fun mental health so much as to share some layers to what it must be like to be an idol vs have fans think of you and create a persona around what they 'think' they know of you. At the same time what you said about Korea and its stance on mental health is something worth considering...which I didn't think about. Kudos gals! Also your place is so aesthetically nice ugh I wish i had a ...kitchen? that looks like that lol

so this music video is the girls point of view of the parasocial relationship between idols and fans. it’s all connected like hanni thinks she’s iphone because it goes into the that they exists for us and do all that stuff for us, haerin has always been called a cat since debut that it’s gotten to the point where she believes she’s a cat, fans always say that dani is like the bubbly person of the group so it’s like showing how pressured she feels about it so that’s why it shows that she’s laughing to a tv and it has absolutely nothing. i could get into more detail about the music video but i did see someone mention it under here which explains it way better than me
아이폰의 마지막 글자만 바꾸면, 아이돌이 됩니다.
어쩌면 아이돌들도 아이폰 처럼 본인을 위해 살지 않죠.
그리고, OMG 안무는 걸그룹 역사상 거의 최고 난위도로 어렵습니다.
One thing about New Jeans MVs is that you always gotta watch it till the last second. You never know what's gonna pop up!
I love this MV because it doesn't spell everything out and let's you interpret it in your own way. My thoughts -
Hanni's character is the only one who actually speaks about her feelings. Losing your sense of self because of the demands and expectations of fans and the industry. She says "I exist for you" and "It doesn't matter who I am anymore". Being confused about " what others say about me and the real me".
Hyein's character has a desire to be the princess in her own fairytale, but fans who get angry when idols have relationships, represented by the bear, make it nearly impossible.
Haerin's character is reduced to being noteworthy only for her physical appearance. Nothing else about her is important to many fans. (Haerin is my favorite member because of her introverted, pensive, and mischievous personality.)
Minji's is the oldest member, and might be the one other members come to for advice or comfort. Her character is both the therapist and the patient and to me that implies that she has to fulfill both roles for herself.
Dani portrays the only sane character. She lives in the reality that they're a K-pop group making a video, but as the others are "crazy" they think she is. A bit of a nod to the quote attributed to Kurt Vonnegut, "A sane person, to an insane society, must appear insane."

아이폰을 한글로 한글자만 바꾸면 아이돌이 됩니다. 즉 하니 본인은 아이돌로서 아이폰 같은 인생을 살고 있다는것이죠. 자신이 누구인지는 중요하지 않고 오직 남을 위한 인생을 살고 있는 병을 앓고 있는거에요. 다른 멤버들도 자신의 정체성을 잃고 다른 존재로 살고있는 병을 앓고 있어요. 그러나 결국 자신의 정체성을 찾는다는 내용인것 같습니다.
I enjoyed your reaction. Just wanted to point out that after they released the official MV they then released a performance video and other versions. I believe they understand the MV can be overwhelming and too much going on if you are new to them and aren’t interested in the storyline, so they do give you other options to view without it too.

OMG!! 유트뷰채널이 있었군요...부모님 한국방문 영상에세 봤는데....유튜브채널있는줄 몰랏네요 꾸독!!
뉴진스는 KPOP 4세대 걸그룹중 블랙핑크 자리를 넘거나 대처할 수 있는 1순위 걸그룹이라고 전 생각합니다. 뉴진스는 상당수의 뻔한 걸그룹이 아니라 펀(FUN)한 걸그룹이거든요. 뮤비 끝에서 나온거처럼 대충 춤이나 추면서 립싱크하며 이쁜척 하는 걸그룹들도 많으니깐요. 아 그리고 개인적으로는 Ditto는 처음 들었을때 굉장히 좋았고 OMG는 들을수록 좋은 노래 같아요. 그리고 뮤비 해석에 대해서는 될 수 있으면 한국적인 생각으로 접근해야 해석이 조금이나마 진전이 있을껍니다.
한국 뮤비를 딱 첫번째 볼 때 팁은 해석하려고 노력하면서 보지말고 가벼운 마음으로 음악 즐기면서 영상을 보는게 좋아요! 그다음에 천천히 의미 분석을 해도 될것같아요. 뮤비 감독 신우석 감독은 아직 어려서 순수한 뉴진스가 많은 대중의 관심을 받아 변치 않았음 하는 마음을 담아 시나리오를 썼다고 하더라구요. 정신병원에 뉴진스는 아마 어렸을때 순수했던 우리들이고 그걸 이상하게 보는게 지금 나이먹은 우리들의 편견이 아닐까 하는 의미같아요!
DITTO가 팬들이 보는 아이돌의 관계라면
OMG는 아이돌이 보는 팬의 관계입니다.
대중 혹은 팬들에 의해 아이돌은 여러영역에서 제한받게됩니다.
뉴진스 멤버 중에 유일하게 자각하는 다니엘이 중간에 우리는 뉴진스야!! 이런게 이런표현이죠.
외부로부터 제한받는 이미지와 뉴진스멤버의 정체성에 대한 괴리감을 표현한것 같아요.
특히 재밌는 부분(가사)은
디토에서는 너를 사랑한다고 너가 디토라고 말해달라고 아침까지 기다리기힘들다고 답변을 달라하죠?
OMG에서는 뉴진스가 그 답변을 합니다.

우연희 리뷰를 보게되었는데 몰리와 프레야 흥미롭네요. 한국어 자막도 훌륭합니다. 정신병원은 별상관 없습니다 그냥 소품에 불과합니다. 정신과 같은 장치들은 뉴진스의 정체성을 확인하는 과정으로 해석합니다. 그리고 여러 해석이 가능한 메세지를 이 mv에 담은 것은 그간 일련의 스토리가 있습니다. 그런 것들도 체크해 보면 좋을 것 같습니다. 제가 명확하게 그것에 대해 언급하지 않는 것은 mv에서도 명확한 언급은 없어서 이고, 팬들이라면 무엇을 mv에 메세지로 담았는지는 잘알수 있습니다.
마지막 '가자' 를 듣고 나도 모르게 '오마이갓' 이라고 말해버림 ㅎㅎ 제목과 뮤비가 찰떡

이번 'omg' mv는 말씀하신것 처럼 뉴진스 뉴비들에겐 뭔가 부족해보일지도 모르겠어요. 하지만 데뷔부터 뉴진스 활동을 쭉 팔로우한 팬들에겐 mv를 이해하는데 어려움이 없을거라고 생각해요.
멤버 각각의 페르소나를 소재로 이야기를 풀다보니 혼란스러울거에요.
엔딩크레딧 마지막에 '가자'라고 말한 민지가 참 흥미로운 장면인데 어두워서 잘은 안보이지만 흰까운을 입고 있었을거라 확신해요. mv속 민지는 자신을 정신과 의사라고 믿는 환자로 나와요. 같은 환자복을 입고 있으면서 정상인 인척, 정신과 의사인척 하면서 나머지 멤버들을 케어하는 페르소나.
왜냐면 민지는 뉴진스의 큰언니면서 리더이기 때문이겠죠. '가자'란 말에는 아마 이런 의미도 숨겨져 있을거에요

사실 영상 앞에 나오는 하니의 나레이션.. 속 뜻은 것은 iPhone 아니라 idol 입니다. 한국어로는 아이'폰' -> 아이'돌' 이라 한 글자만 차이가 납니다.

우리의 비디오는 마지막에 본시다면 우리의 못보는거 깨달았습니다! ㅋㅋㅋ
