    Parseltongue..Horcruxes..what have they got in common, well quite a lot according to what I’ve been researching. I’ve always been interested the origins of certain things from the magical world. Like how was the horcrux created, how are spells made and todays video, how did parseltongue originate? Honestly like where did this language come from, how did someone just come along and magically teach himself the ability to speak to snakes? He can’t right? It would have to be something he inherited, and with the gaunt family for example, that was exactly the case. That means Parseltongue had to originate with someone and something. In addition to that, what has it got to do with Voldemort’d snake like appearance? I’ll be answering all of those questions in todays videoLend your Patreon Support goo.gl/ZoHfRf

      I'm glad that was said since the franchise tends to put Slytherins in a bad light. Poor snakes; always getting a bad rap in society through entertainment and religion. I don't think it would have appealed to him. He had mastered transfiguration and could turn himself into any animal he would want (remember the shark head of Victor Krum) I doubt he would have enjoyed being stuck as a particular animal and the intensity of performing the animagus spell takes so much time it would have been a distraction.

  • @ShanYalesTale
    @ShanYalesTale 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    This is a very interesting theory. I do wonder about a few points though.
    1) I'm not sure how part of the snakes/basilisks soul entered Herpo because they didn't make the horcrux, he did. But I can see where they would have a mental connection like Vold did with Harry, being able to read each others minds, and that would make sense to learn parceltongue. About passing it down, What if Herpo decided that he was remorseful and he rejoined his split soul, retaining the knowledge of parceltongue, becoming part of his magical DNA and then had children? Just a thought.
    2) I think Tom was already starting to look serpent like before making Nagini a horcruxe. I think he was choosing to look more snake like with each one. Maybe that is part of the spell, giving up a part of your appearance when splitting your soul. Maybe you can choose what animal you want to appear more like. A permanent transfiguration.

  • @gnrcro8582
    @gnrcro8582 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Herpo the Foul was born a Parselmouth, and when he created first Basilisk, he could control it because of Parseltongue. And his Horcrux was a common object, not the Basilisk, but it is unknown what it was or how it was destroyed. Parseltongue was discovered by Paracelsus, an alchemist from HP universe, that little is known about.

    Interesting. I always liked to imagine that Parseltongue originated due to a milder form of the Malidictus curse to which both females AND males are susceptible. Instead of becoming the snake, they take on some of its characteristics, which then would be passed down throughout the generations.

  • @millarintala8738
    @millarintala8738 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Nice theory! It has a small problem, but it's the same problem that the Harry Potter universe already has with heredity.
    To some trait, e.g. parseltongue, to be hereditary, it has to be in the genes. Therefore, the creation of snake horcrux has to alter the genetic makeup of that person. There's no reason why that couldn't be accomplished with such powerful dark magic that is horcrux creation. That would also contribute to Voldemort's snake-like appearance after making Nagini a horcrux. Parseltongue would also have to be dominant trait, i.e. if you inherit the dominant allele (version of that gene) from one of your parents, you'll display that trait, no matter what allele you inherited from the other parent. But this still doesn't mean that every heir of Herpo the Foul (or Salazar Slytherin) would've had that trait. Genes come in pairs: you inherit one allele from your mother and the other from your father. If we assume that Herpo the Foul was the first parselmouth and the horcrux creation gave him two parseltongue alleles, all of his children would've been parselmouths, too. Because their mother wouldn't have had the parseltongue allele, the children would've had the dominant parseltongue alleles from their father and recessive non-parseltongue alleles from their mother. Then they would procreate with people who only have non-parseltongue alleles and each of their children would have only 50% chance of inheriting the parseltongue allele. Those who inherit it would again have 50 % chance to pass it on each of their children. Even if (I mean when) Herpo's descendant's who had inherited one parseltongue allele had children with each other, each of their child would have a 25 % chance of not inheriting the parseltongue allele, 50 % chance of inheriting one and 25 % chance of inheriting two. The way that parseltongue is inherited in the HP universe just isn't consistent with biology.
    The same problem exist with the "magic gene". I'm not even going to start with the switching on and off the magic gene, but even if we ignore it, there should be more squibs in bloodlines containing higher number of muggles and muggle-borns than in pure-blood families. That doesn't seem to be the case, and if it were then the pure-blood supremacists would've had a stronger case. Based on J. K. Rowling's explanation about the magic gene, her understanding of heredity is apparently on level "it has something to do with genes". She kind of circumvents this by saying it also has something to do with soul. I could actually even fix this heredity problem in HP universe with very little changes to canon.
    Tl.dr. Heridity in HP universe is inconsistent with biology

  • @ChattinBoxingWYB
    @ChattinBoxingWYB 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I'm pretty confident that Herpo the Foul is an ancestor of Salazar Slytherin and that's how Salazar got his hereditary gift to speak Parseltongue. I also feel that Parseltonuge was created by Herpo using a snake as a Horcrux and gaining the ability that way.

It would have been easier for him to manipulate people to his side instead of doing the whole "Join me or I'll kill you" thing he did as the pale skinned, bald, red eyed, slit nostrils Voldemort. Even in his 50's he'd have probably had the female Death Eaters swooning. The "poor orphan who got good grades and was nice and polite" act had served him well as a Hogwarts student after all.

    What if his mom was a maledictus (snake) and being a male he didn't receive the curse but the ability to speak Parseltongue. I'm not convinced it had anything to do with a horcrux. The times he's mentioned to me it makes it sound like he was born a parselmouth. I think it more likely that being able to talk to snakes caused his affinity for snakes, which led to him creating the basilisk.

    1:35 I always found Ron opening the chamber by mimicking what he heard Harry hiss in his sleep to be complete BS.. Did that door open to any word/phrase so long as it was in parseltongue? For all he knew Harry was having a rather pleasant dream of treacle tart or Cho Chang..
    If not then how did Ron know what he was saying? He claimed he learned it by listening to Harry in his sleep, which is creepy, so I doubt Harry translated it for him.
    Is Harry just hissing the same phrase over and over again? Does Ron have some sort of crazy mimicry talent?
    It's all BULLSHIT.

    You are actually wrong on when Voldemort became snakelike in appearance. In the philosophers stone when quirrell unveils Voldemorts face in the back of his head it is described as a snake. Now we dont know when he started looking like a snake but i assume if he didnt have it when he went to kill harry he would have had it shortly after losing his powers.

    Have you considered that Herpo the Foul's mother may have been a Maledictus cursed to transform into a snake or even into a basilisk? If she turned into a snake while pregnant and especially if she permanently turned into a snake before giving birth this might explain a genetic link to snakes and thus the ability to speak to snakes. If she turned into a basilisk that might be why he was interested in hatching a basilisk. The hatched basilisk may have even been a half sibling.

    I’m not trying to dis you, but if Voldemort didn’t look like that in the first wizarding war how did Cornelius fudge recognise him in the order of the Phoenix and know it was him when he looked completely different. Also he had some of the similar features in the sorcerers stone and on his return so I think you are wrong with this video.

    While watching a question popped up in my head. What would happen if a phoenix became a horcrux? Would the piece of soul inside be destroyed once it's reborn? Or would the piece stay intact?

    • @torib713
      @torib713 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think for me it's still gonna be the same case as Harry Potter. I mean when Harry got hit by the killing curse it destroyed the soul of Voldemort inside him and when he got back alive because of his mother's protection that he cannot die it's already gone of him. So in the phoenix case if ever you're going to kill it with a killing curse or even other methods then it's also going to be destroyed since the phoenix physically really died or the matter really destroyed into ashes even if the phoenix has the capability to restore itself back to life. So in conclusion, the fact that Harry's body been hit by the killing curse he have lost his life and have not even turned his body into ashes already killed the soul inside him, how much more would it be for the phoenix case?

    I like your theory, however I maybe able to expand on it. The oldest records that even the most scholarly muggle can get their hands on like the Dead Sea Scrolls can explain.
    Ancient civilisations left behind records and monuments which documented otherworldly incursions among mankind and even started families of their own. Like for example, the rise of Atlantis and Lumuria which indicates the Origins of the Wizardling bloodlines.
    Furthermore, some otherworldly entities had serpentine appearances and can shapeshift and have deep knowledge of how the Spirit functions and may had taught this dark wizard of old.
    I believe that Parseltoungue is their language and it's part of their blood.

    I like this theory because it would connect the start of the parselmouth ability to actual dark magic. I always thought that it was strange that people would be so upset that an ability to talk to snakes exists as evil inherently. Like, wouldn’t that just be a cool power some people have? But if it was connected to the creation of the first horcrux it would really connect it to something actually evil

  • @vonkauentheforbidden9589

    I think Voldemort did have a piece of Harry in him. That's why Harry didn't die. He could return because, unlike Voldemort in Godrick's hollow, he had a body to come back to. When the killing curse rebounded in Godrick's hollow it destriyed Voldemort's body entirely. He couldn't simply resurrect himself. When Harry died in the forest that night, the piece of him that was inside Voldemort may have been ripped out, since the binding process wasn't complete (or perhaps because when you destroy one of your living horcruxes, it rips out their binding to you?), a process which may have caused Voldemort to collapse too. Both could return to their bodies because they still existed and because they hadn't fully crossed over

    What if Herpo the Foul learned Parseltongue after creating a horcrux with a snake? The knowledge was imprinted into his soul and passed down his family line.
    And here is the huge plot hole. With how old Herpo is, there should be, a large percent of the wizarding world would be parselmouth. Harry already has three descendants.

My first thought was Native Americans that perhaps Salazar learned the magic of the Native American Shamans or Shamans from anywhere else and put a twist on it. Very nice video although I think you are mistaken. At book 5 when Fudge sees Voldemort he recognizes him. Imo the snake-like appearance may have t do with how animagi and patronuses get their form. As for Voldemort the snake was the symbol of his family and Salazar himself. I think it is totally obvious that Voldemort's animal must have been a snake as he regards been part of the Gaunt family and an heir to Slytherin very important facts about his lineage and his identity.

    the theory about herbal the foul is good. But the one about VM looking like a snake because of Nagini is wrong and here is why:
    In book 6, Harry and Dumbledore visit many more memories than in the movies. One of those memories is when VM came back to hogwarts to become Defense against the dark arts teacher. Dumbledore was already headmaster (unlike when VM was a student) and turned him down ofc. But the important thing here is that in the memory VM is described as looking pretty snakelike already. So the books suggest that his body-transformation happened because he tore appart his soul and with each bit he tore off his body also changed.
