This has to be one of my favourite stories across all SW media, I just love how they make you feel for Kallus at the end

This is probably the first time SW ever humanized an imperial officer, very different but worked great

This is great episode. Kallus watched Zeb get rescued, then see how happy his friends were to see him alive. He gets back and nobody cares, you can see that he looks to be having second thoughts about the Empire.

Geonosis has an arc in The Clone Wars about the zombie bugs and Ahsoka and Bariss. It is also the same planet where Anakin, Obi-Wan and Padme fight the beasts in the arena in Attack of the Clones and has the first official battle of the Clone Wars

So actually it was even worse for Kallus. He was actually saved by some random group that picked up the signal. The Empire just ran out of it allotted time and left him for dead.

"does the same apply to all Imperials"
I think the difference is that Last are a group that are defined by their unchangeable traits/heritage. They can act differently because it isn't ideology that binds them together. Imperials, on the other hand, devote themselves to an ideology. So it's fair to judge all Imperials for the impact of their actions, but it wouldn't be fair to judge all Lasat for their actions.

    Insightful reaction! 😀
I enjoy stories like this much more, where the “villain” has some depth, not just some mustache twirler.
I think it’s often forgotten that in war that the other side are people too. They have families and a way of life they are trying to protect.

I love this episode for all sorts of reasons but a central one is deliberately 'humanising' rather than dehumanising Kallus - even to the point that you feel really sorry for him at the end when he gets back to his 'comrades' and no one even noticed he was missing. Sitting there in his room on his own at the end, clearly feeling alone and isolated: ouch that hurts!

I know you saw this episode WEEKS ago, but I have been rubbing my palms in anticipation to watch your reaction to it. And you did not disappoint. Your opinions of Agent Kallus were rocked to their core.
I believe this has your longest post-episode discussion yet of the series.
The "Enemy Mine" [The Honorable Ones] episode is one of my favorites of the series; and there are MANY incredible episodes.
The teamwork that develops as they struggle to survive is very entertaining to watch, but the final scene with Agent Kallus after his return is just so moving.

  • @jmhaces

This episode was probably based on an old 80's sci-fi movie called "Enemy Mine," which in turn was based in an older sci-fi novel about a human and an alien who crash land on some random planet during a war between their species and are forced to cooperate to survive for years stranded there all alone, becoming good friends in the process and eventually helping bring the armed conflict to an end after they're finally rescued. The effects are kind of cheesy and dated because it wasn't a high-budget movie, but the story's pretty good.

Given that the Empire is practically the ultimate force from the core worlds to the mid-rim it's no wonder many people would sign up to it regardless of whether they're a good person or not, as it's virtually all they know. Would take some big event to get them to want to defect and then they have the issue of actually finding the Rebellion as they usually kept themselves hidden.

What the Rebels don't know yet is that the Geonosians were wiped out by the Empire due to their knowledge and initial construction of the Death Star. Remember that it was the Geonosians who designed the battle station before the Clone Wars (we see Poggle the Lesser give the plans to Count Dooku, who delivers them Darth Sidious).

Star Wars is filled with falls and redemption. All but a handful of truly evil characters -- like Palpy -- are in many ways pitiable. To my mind -- and this is really true in the Filloniverse -- that's the core of what makes the storytelling so good.
Ezra goes from self centered street urchin to starting to care. Kanen going from fallen Jedi to getting his mojo back. Din in his first three eps going from ruthless bounty hunter to the ultimate dad.
Even Vader is not beyond redemption!
Feeling bad for Kallis? Yeah. We're all a product of the world around us. Sometimes we surrender to our own demons.
